A woman broke into tears at Wakiso Central Daily Market after discovering she had been left off the new stall allocation list—despite allegedly paying a Shs2 million bribe to the former market leadership.

The revelation came as Minister for Local Government, Balaam Barugahara, dissolved the old market committee and installed interim leadership. The minister established that the former executives had sidelined genuine local vendors, instead selling off stalls to individuals who paid bribes.

Wakiso District secured World Bank funding to construct a modern market accommodating nearly 800 vendors. A temporary structure has been set up to host the traders while construction gets underway.
