German luxury carmaker Audi is considering manufacturing battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in India as part of a potential made-in-India EV strategy amid intensifying competition in the country's luxury car market, while aiming to double its market share over the next three to five years.
In an interview with PTI, Audi India Brand Director Balbir Singh Dhillon said the company expects to decide on local BEV production within the next couple of months.
Audi aims to increase its luxury car market share from around 8% to 15-16%, supported by three strategic priorities, including customer centricity, new product launches and dealership network expansion.
The German automaker plans to expand its dealership presence, particularly in tier-II and tier-III cities.
Dhillon also said Audi is looking to leverage the proposed India-European Union free trade agreement to introduce additional models at more competitive import duties, assess their sales potential and consider local manufacturing based on demand.

Bajrang Dal workers in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, allege that two men, Salim and Mohammad Jiyaul, were taking a Hindu woman away while she wore a burqa. Reports say the workers caught and beat the two men before police took all three to the station. The woman was admitted to hospital after she fell ill. तो पूरी चेन समझिए, फोर्ड फाउंडेशन से पैसा, परिवर्तन एनजीओ में केजरीवाल-सिसोदिया-अंजलि की टीम, फिर अशोका फेलो का टैग, फिर सीधे अमेरिकी दूतावास से पुरस्कार और समर्थन, और फिर वही लोग आज प्रशांत भूषण के साथ मिलकर भारत में रेजीम चेंज और खून-खराबे वाली क्रांति की बातें कर रहे हैं।
ये कोई जन आंदोलन नहीं है, ये 20 साल पुराना विदेशी फंडेड नेटवर्क है जो कभी जनलोकपाल, कभी सीएए, कभी किसान आंदोलन और अब चुनाव आयोग के नाम पर हर बार भारत की चुनी हुई सरकार को अस्थिर करने का काम करता है।
