These red flags made us reject SMEs for listing.
Our top priority is your security. Weβre not saying that just to make you feel better β itβs a fact.
If a business canβt repay its loan, we lose money, you lose money, and our track record and reputation suffer too. Thatβs why we use several layers of protection, and due diligence before listing is one of them.
Whenever an SME applies for funding, we dig into the business before deciding whether to list it. And most of the time, we have to say βno.β
Why? Because we see red flags like theseπ
And so on. There are many other reasons why we might reject an SME, but these are some of the most common ones.
The goal here is to show you what we look for and what we focus on during due diligence.
βοΈ Just last month, we had to reject 17 SMEs.
They came from different sectors: manufacturing, agribusiness, logistics, biotech, even education. But we still had to say no.
π€ What kind of business would you like to see on our platform, but think weβd be very unlikely to list? Drop your ideas in the comments!

π© The company has been losing money for a long time with no credible path to profitability.
π© The P&L may look fine, but the actual cash flow isnβt strong enough to cover the debt.
π© High existing debt.
π© Poor collateral β for example, an asset that is already pledged elsewhere, has an unrealistic valuation, or is highly specialised and difficult to resell.
π© The company refuses to provide the documents we request.

INSIGHTS FROM TOKEN2049
The last two days were amazing. We met a lot of people, built new connections, and learned a lot from the event.
And weβd like to share some of the most interesting insights we picked up over those two daysπ
πΊπΈ TOKEN2049 is coming to New York in 2027. Thatβs another sign that the US is once again becoming a major center of the crypto industry.
So, the market is talking less about issuing new tokens and more about payments, RWAs, infrastructure, and real cash flows.
The last two days were amazing. We met a lot of people, built new connections, and learned a lot from the event.
And weβd like to share some of the most interesting insights we picked up over those two days
π Coinbase + Deribit: Coinbase is expanding its Global Exchange by integrating spot, perpetuals, and options. Crypto exchanges are increasingly becoming full-fledged financial infrastructure.π Nasdaq is seriously discussing 24/7 markets. What was once a unique advantage of crypto could gradually become the standard in TradFi too.π Privacy is a hot topic again! Midnight is betting on ZK, private identity, and confidential financial infrastructure, treating these not just as tools for βanonymity,β but as an important part of the institutional market.π Stablecoins are evolving into payment infrastructure.π RWA and tokenized stocks are no longer discussed as experiments, but as infrastructure that still needs more scale and liquidity.π Institutional DeFi is already here. The question now is how, and through which products and rails, major capital will enter the space.π The AI-crypto intersection is moving beyond the hype and toward a new type of economy, with agents that can autonomously pay for on-chain computing and services.
So, the market is talking less about issuing new tokens and more about payments, RWAs, infrastructure, and real cash flows.

What is collateral actually worth?
When it comes to protection, just saying the collateral is worth $1M isn't enough, of course.
βοΈ If a borrower defaults, what the business paid for an asset or what itβs worth on the books doesnβt really matter. What matters is how much we can get by selling it.
Thatβs why we look at the asset type, its condition, liquidity, the secondary market, and how much we might have to discount the price to sell it. The details depend on the business and the type of collateral it provides.
For some projects, we also estimate a more conservative liquidation value.
So, the most important thing for us is how much money the asset could bring back to investors if the businessβs main cash flow dries up.
βοΈ Do you check the LTV before investing? What LTV feels acceptable to you, and at what point would you walk away?
π Share some of your secret tactics in the comments!

For some projects, we also estimate a more conservative liquidation value.
Next, we look at the LTV (Loan-to-Value) ratio. It shows how large the loan is compared to the value of the collateral.
For example, if the loan is $400,000 and the collateral is valued at $650,000, the LTV is approximately 62%.
The lower the LTV, the bigger the gap between the loan amount and the collateralβs value.
But LTV alone doesnβt guarantee repayment. We also check whether we can seize and sell the asset, whether anyone else has a claim on it, and how much we might recover in the worst-case scenario.
So, the most important thing for us is how much money the asset could bring back to investors if the businessβs main cash flow dries up.

For many businesses, the problem isn't that they can't get a loan. They just need capital as soon as possible, often for a specific purpose that doesn't fit rigid banking criteria.
Banks evaluate companies based on a strict set of criteria: credit history, financial reports, time in business, type of collateral, and internal lending limits. Even a strong business might get rejected just because it doesn't fit the bank's criteria.
8lends works differently. We focus on these things:
π Why does the business need the capital?π How will it use the funds?π What cash flow will it use to repay the loan?π What collateral can it provide?π Can the business generate enough cash flow to repay the debt?
Then there's the matter of speed.
Businesses often need financing for specific purposes: buying equipment, increasing inventory, fulfilling a contract, expanding production, and more. If the loan approval process takes too long, the opportunity might disappear.
In this sense, crowdlending can be more flexible than bank loans.
That doesn't mean our requirements are any less strict. We just focus on a few key things: protecting investors' money, how the business plans to make a profit from the funds it raises, and whether its collateral can cover investors' losses in case of default.
If you had a business, what would you choose: funding from 8lends or a bank loan? Share your thoughts!

We talked about how we solve the banking problems small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) face every day.
People don't talk about this enough. That's why we attended this event: to bring more attention to the problem and share how we at 8lends are solving it.
Our approach benefits everyone: SMEs looking for relatively fast funding and people who want to earn a steady APR on their money.
Feel free to listen to what our CCO, Ivan Marchena, had to say in the interview!

Where do businesses get the money to pay 20%?
At first, it might seem odd: why would a sound business borrow at 20%+ when banks exist?
But think about this:
If a company raises $100,000 and is expected to repay, say, $120,000 a year later, the question is: how much profit will that $100,000 help it generate?
For instance, a business mightπ
If that additional $100,000 helps a business generate $40,000β$50,000 in extra profit, then paying $20,000 to generate that profit makes sense.
β
Therefore, a high interest rate doesn't necessarily mean that a company is bad or desperate. On the contrary, it might have a really smart plan to use the money.
Still, a good borrower should be able to clearly explain where the additional cash flow will come from, how stable it is, and what happens if things don't go as planned.
That's why the interest rate shouldn't be your main concern.
π€© What about you? What do you look at before investing in a project on 8lends?

If a company raises $100,000 and is expected to repay, say, $120,000 a year later, the question is: how much profit will that $100,000 help it generate?
For instance, a business might
π purchase inventory, sell it at a high margin, and turn over that capital several times within a year;π acquire equipment that immediately boosts production capacity;π fulfill a large contract for which it currently lacks sufficient working capital;π buy raw materials at a discount, earning more from the price difference than the cost of financing.

Here's your principal! But... what's next?
When a business repays its loan, you finally receive your principal back. But you stop earning interest from that business, too. If you want to keep generating income, you need to choose a new project to invest in.
If your portfolio consists of 4--6 projects with different terms and repayment schedules, you have to keep track of repayments, look for new opportunities, and reinvest the money that comes back.
Meanwhile, while your money sits in your wallet, it literally generates nothing.
How will it work?
You'll need to turn the feature on manually and set two options:
Once you've set everything up, you can include your existing investments, too. As loans get repaid, the returned principal goes into your auto-reinvestment balance. The platform then automatically allocates it across new, available projects.
What exactly is it for?
Instead of constantly checking incoming payments and manually choosing the next project to invest in, you can automate the process and spend less time monitoring everything.
The platform automatically selects projects from those currently available. The minimum amount for a single automated investment is 100 USDC. If you have a small amount to invest, your actual share in a single project may exceed the percentage limit you've set.
Do you need this?
Your actual return depends not only on the interest rates of individual loans but also on how efficiently you reinvest your money throughout the investment cycle.
Even if every project delivers the expected return, long gaps between one loan being repaid and your next investment can reduce your overall returns.
π€ So, how does it sound? Would you give this feature a try, or would you prefer to manage your investments manually?

Meanwhile, while your money sits in your wallet, it literally generates nothing.
β¨ Recently, we've been working on a new feature: automatic reinvestment. It's designed to reduce these gaps and make managing your money easier.
How will it work?
You'll need to turn the feature on manually and set two options:
π The maximum portion of your money you want to allocate to a single project.π What you want to do with your interest: reinvest it, withdraw it to your wallet, or allocate it to crypto-lending.
You're still in control of your money, though. You can pause automatic reinvestment, withdraw available USDC at any time, or list your existing positions on the secondary market if you need to exit early.

Auto-reinvestment doesn't guarantee that your money will always be invested. That still depends on whether suitable projects are available. But it means you won't have to manually reinvest your money every time.
We just want to help you spend less time on operational tasks and focus more on your investment strategy.
