An Overview of Key Physics Concepts
Fundamental Concepts
- Force: A push or pull that can change the motion of an object.
- Velocity: The rate of change of displacement with respect to time, including direction.
- Speed: The rate of change of distance with respect to time, without direction.
Specific Forces
- Gravitational Force: The attractive force between any two objects with mass.
- Hooke's Law: A law stating that the force exerted by a spring is proportional to its extension or compression.
Rotational Motion
- Moments: The turning effect of a force about a point.
Energy and Power
- Energy: The capacity to do work.
- Kinetic Energy: Energy of motion.
- Potential Energy: Stored energy.
- Power: The rate at which work is done or energy is transferred.
Pressure
- Pressure: Force per unit area.
- Pressure in Liquids: Pressure increases with depth due to the weight of the fluid above.
Thermal Effects
- Thermal Effects: Changes in the physical properties of a substance due to changes in temperature.
- Thermal Expansion: The tendency of matter to expand when heated.
- Thermal Contraction: The tendency of matter to contract when cooled.
- Heat Transfer: The process of transferring heat energy from one object to another.

AC vs DC Relay 🤷♂️
DC relays work by winding a copper coil around a soft iron core to create an electromagnet. It’s function remains same regardless of the coil's polarity, so it can also work with an AC without issues.
However, since the AC current approaches zero during each cycle, the relay’s magnet can lose its strength, which might cause it to chatter.
To solve this issue, a shading ring made of copper or aluminum is used. It is basically a one-turn coil. A current induced in the shading ring by the primary coil's magnetic field helps maintain the relay contact even when the primary coil current becomes zero.
