What is a resistor? (Electrical Resistance)

A resistor is an essential electronic component that limits the passage of electrical current, reducing its intensity to protect other elements of the circuit.

Key features:
• Unit of measure: Ohmios ( de)
• Ohm's Law: V = I × R
• Common use: Limit the current on an LED to prevent it from burning.
• Electric symbol: A line with spikes or zigzag
• Identification: By a color code on the body of the resistor

VOLTAGE DOUBLER
A voltage doubler circuit is an electronic circuit that converts an AC or AC-derived pulsating DC input voltage to a DC output voltage that is twice the peak value of the input. This is achieved by charging capacitors in phases using diodes and then combining the stored charges.
Here's a more detailed explanation:
Basic Principle:
Charging:
During the positive half-cycle of the AC input, the first capacitor (C1) charges to the peak voltage. During the negative half-cycle, the second capacitor (C2) to the peak voltage.

DOUBLING:
The output voltage is the sum of the voltages across the two capacitors (C1 and C2) connected in series, effectively doubling the peak input voltage.

RECTIFICATION
Diodes (D1 and D2) act as rectifiers, ensuring that capacitors charge only during the appropriate polarity of the AC input.

COMPONENTS:
1. Diodes:
These are used to ensure unidirectional current flow, allowing the capacitors to charge only during the correct half-cycles of the AC input.
2. Capacitors:
These store the charge from the AC input, which is then combined to produce the doubled output voltage.

TYPES OF VOLTAGE DOUBLER :
1. Half-wave voltage doubler:
This circuit uses only one diode and one capacitor, charging during one half-cycle of the AC input.
2. Full-wave voltage doubler:
This circuit uses two diodes and two capacitors, charging during both half-cycles of the AC input, resulting in a more stable and higher output voltage.

APPLICATIONS:
1. DC power supplies:
Voltage doublers are used in DC power supplies to convert AC voltage to a higher DC voltage, often using transformers or without.

2.Energy harvesting:
They can be used to extract energy from various AC sources, such as vibrations or solar panels, and convert it to a usable DC voltage.

3.Scientific instruments:
Voltage doublers are used in various scientific instruments to provide the necessary high-voltage DC power.

4.DC-DC converters:
They are an essential component in DC-DC converters, which convert DC voltage to a different level.

BENEFITS:
1.Efficient:
They can efficiently double the input voltage without relying on large, bulky transformers.
2.Versatile:
They can be used in various applications, from simple power supplies to complex scientific instruments.
3.Compact:
Compared to transformer-based solutions, they can be more compact.
