CRYPTO MEETUP
23 March Thursday 17:30 - 20:00

First in the series of events, dedicated to learning cryptography and it's applications.

Topic: Basic permutation ciphers, perfect cipher and basic attack models.

We'll have an intro lecture into human-powered ciphers and basic math theory behind them. After that we'll have a discussion about applications of human-powered ciphers in modern adys and decide wherever we're gonna head next.

Max 10 people, please comment if you want to participate.

ALGO MEETUP
25 March Saturday 14:00 - 19:00

Series of events, dedicated to learning algorithms and solving LeetCode problems. Nice option to prepare for job interviews.

topic: Disjoint set union
At first we will have a small lecture about disjoint set data structure (with some math) and how it could be applied by @taminomara. Then we will solve 3-4 medium/hard LeetCode problems using this knowledge.

Use your favorite programming language.

Minimal participant requirements:
* you have already successfully solved easy problems at LeetCode
* you have laptop, pen and paper

Max 10 people, please comment if you want to participate and not already in the group.

Lean Manufacturing Meet Up

When
: March 27, 19:30
Languages: English or Russian

Lean Manufacturing is a production method aimed at the reduction of “waste” and increasing efficiency. Briefly, it can be summarized as "Precisely specify value by specific product, identify the value stream for each product, make value flow without interruptions, let customer pull value from the producer, and pursue perfection.”

Join us for a meetup on Lean Software Development, where we'll explore the principles of Lean Manufacturing and how they can be applied to software development. We’ll also glance at Lean Startup and Design Thinking methods used to create better products that meet customer needs.

Seminar: geometric
deep learning

Please work through the course materials at geometricdeeplearning.com prior to the seminar.

When: 25 Mar Saturday 12:00-14:00
Lang: RU
Where: main room

We learned that trying to cover more than one lecture per seminar is a mistake.
Thus, we're continuing to work through chapter 3 of the book. That's lecture 4.

We have a dedicated chat for the seminar. Do pop over with any questions.

lottery scaling improved

Please read the papers prior to the seminar.

When: 31 Mar Friday 19:00-22:00
Lang: RU
Where: main room

Papers of the day:
- The Lottery Ticket Hypothesis: Finding Sparse, Trainable Neural Networks
- Scaling Laws for Neural Language Models
- Improved wavelet domain centroid-based adaptive audio steganography

We’ll walk through each paper and collectively resolve any unclear spots as we do so. Then we’ll share our perspectives on the subject and figure our how the paper fits into our life.

Shall you get stuck as you read, pop over to our chat — we’ll try to help.

HACK BASICS: Practice

When
: Wednesday, March 29, 19:00
Languages: English or Russian

We decided to split our lessons into theory and practice. This time we will learn the basics of low-level programming and solve some tasks related to the previously discussed topics.

Allowed programming languages: C, C++, Rust, assembly or any other that compiles to native machine code and provides manual memory management.

Please take a laptop with a UNIX-like operating system (GNU/Linux (Debian, Ubuntu, etc), *BSD, MasOC and others).

CTF (jeopardy)

When
: Friday, March 31, 16:00
Languages: English or Russian

CTF (Capture The Flag) is a kind of information security competition that challenges contestants to solve a variety of tasks ranging from a scavenger hunt on wikipedia to basic programming exercises, to hacking your way into a server to steal data. In these challenges, the contestant is usually asked to find a specific piece of text that may be hidden on the server or behind a webpage. This goal is called the flag, hence the name!

Jeopardy format means that there are separate tasks split into different categories.
