🔓 Locked position in trading

👀 Many beginners, facing losses, reach for a so-called “lifeline” — the lock. They open a buy trade, the market drops — they open a sell. Now they think the drawdown is “frozen” and they can just wait it out safely.
⠀
❓ What is a lock? It’s when a trader holds two opposing positions on the same instrument:

🟢 Bought EURUSD expecting it to rise.
🟠 Price fell — so they opened a sell.
⠀
Now both trades are floating. The loss isn't closed — it's just postponed.
⠀
🌪 Why a lock is a trap:
⠀
🔢 The drawdown is still there. A lock doesn’t fix anything — it just pauses the pain. The loss still weighs on you — financially and mentally.
⠀
🔢 Fees eat up your balance. Swaps, spreads, the cost of maintaining two positions — even in a flat market, your balance drops daily.
⠀
🔢 Getting out is a guessing game. To exit a lock profitably, you have to perfectly predict the market’s next move.
But if you could do that — you wouldn’t be in a lock in the first place.
⠀
The result?
➖ Loss remains open
➖ Capital is frozen
➖ Emotional pressure builds

💻 The Dotcom Bubble!

📆 In the late 1990s, internet companies witnessed an explosive rise. Everyone was investing, speculating, and hyping up the "new economy" — but it couldn’t last. The bubble burst in 2000, triggering massive losses and a market crash.

What triggered it?
🔴 Overhyped internet stocks with little to no profit.
🔴 Venture capital flooding untested companies without solid business plans.
🔴 Investors were chasing growth, not profitability.
🔴 The dream of endless tech profits — until reality set in.

What followed:
🔢 The NASDAQ lost nearly 80% of its value from 2000 to 2002.
🔢 Dotcom companies like Pets.com and Webvan collapsed.
🔢 Some companies, like Cisco’s shares, still haven’t reached their all-time high since 2000.
🔢 The crash set the stage for the sustained growth in technology that we see today in companies like Amazon, Netflix, Microsoft, etc.

What it taught us:
❌ Speculation can create bubbles, but only a few can survive the crash.
✅ Sustainable growth and solid business plans always win in the long run.

😱 Fear and Greed

💰 Every trader faces them — not on the chart, but in the mirror. Fear and greed are not emotions. They are behavioral forces that quietly rewrite your trading plan mid-session.

😬 Fear makes you exit too early. You see a red candle and think “What if I lose everything?”
🤑 Greed keeps you in too long. You're in profit, but whisper to yourself “Just a bit more…”

❗️ These emotions pretend to protect you — but in reality, they sabotage your trades. They make you overreact, second-guess, and break your own system.

✍️ Emotional discipline is the foundation of any serious trading strategy. You can have the best indicators, the cleanest setup — but if you panic at every dip or chase every pump, your edge is gone.

💡 So what do you do?

🔢 Build emotional checkpoints into your system. Before entering or exiting a trade, ask: “Is this part of my plan — or am I reacting emotionally?”
🔢 Use journaling — not just for trades, but for tracking emotional states. Over time, you’ll spot patterns and triggers.
🔢 Practice "planned detachment." Treat each trade like a statistical event — not a personal victory or failure.

🧠 Fear and greed won’t vanish — but you can neutralize them. Turn your emotions into data — and your edge becomes psychological as well as technical.
