The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has issued a devastating counter-threat, directly responding to Israel's vow to bomb Iran's energy infrastructure "back to the Stone Age."
๐ฌ "Any attack on Iran's energy infrastructure, while immediately repaired by our intelligent young people, will permanently turn the occupied territories into a wasteland and displace their occupiers to the Sinai desert," Fars News quoted IRGC spokesperson.
Western intelligence assesses Iran retained ~75% of its ballistic missile arsenal despite eight months of bombing.

A second Chinese submarine drone mothership has emerged, this time at Guangzhou Shipyard International, The War Zone reported. It joins a nearly identical โ but larger โ vessel built at Hudong-Zhonghua in Shanghai.
What these ships are designed for:
Launching and recovering large numbers of UUVs far from Chinese shores provides an asymmetric capability the US Navy currently lacks. Long-range UUVs can map the seabed, hunt submarines, search for mines, or launch cruise missiles and drones.
A growing fleet would give China a credible threat to US's outposts in the Pacific โ and even the US seaboard. And the US has nothing like this in its inventory.

๐บ๐ธ๐จ๐ณ US commanders admit they cannot rely on air and naval power alone against China
Senior US military leaders have acknowledged that the "tyranny of distance" across the Pacific makes it impossible to depend solely on ships and aircraft in a possible confrontation with China, and that land-based forces will be essential to keeping the fight going, according to a South China Morning Post report.
The Pentagon's remarks reflect a growing worry among American planners that China's increasingly sophisticated air and naval forces could deny US ships and jets the freedom to operate in the region. Without land forces to hold terrain and sustain the joint force, the air force and navy would be unable to use their capabilities at all.
๐ Experts describe a structural shift in American strategy. Taking into account the rapid spread of China's ballistic, cruise, and hypersonic weapons, which leave fixed locations acutely vulnerable, the Pentagon is relying on its regional allies' territory to deploy its troops and military assets.
US Pacific Command includes 107,000 soldiers spread across the region. In June, the army established a Multi-Domain Command-Pacific at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state to coordinate joint and allied operations across the Indo-Pacific.
China, meanwhile, has been steadily modernizing its armed forces, with goals tied to symbolic dates in 2027, 2035, and 2049. China's reforms have focused on air and sea power, producing systems such as the Fujian aircraft carrier, the J-35 fighter jet, and a growing array of unmanned platforms. The latest five-year plan prioritizes "intelligentized" warfare, with emphasis on artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, and networked information infrastructure.

๐ฒ AIโs debt-fueled gold rush is showing cracks
Telltale signs indicate that investors are growing jittery about the huge amounts of borrowed money being funneled to finance the AI boom, reports the NYT.
These worries have hit CoreWeave, Oracle and Japanโs SoftBank particularly hard.
โก๏ธ CoreWeave, which runs 51 data centers and carries about $72 billion in liabilities, saw its bonds crash; markets now put the chance of default above 60%
โก๏ธ Oracleโs bonds have traded at steep discounts after repeated delays to projects in Texas, Wisconsin and New Mexico, mostly caused by power-permit problems
โก๏ธ Japanโs SoftBank, borrowing heavily and selling assets to fund investments in OpenA, saw the cost of insuring $1 million of its debt against default surge over $40,000 from less than $27,000 at the start of the year
โก๏ธ extra interest investors demand to hold riskier AI-related debt has climbed over 50 % in six months
Bigger tech firms such as Meta and Alphabet are still able to borrow at only modestly higher rates, but the open question is whether CoreWeave, Oracle and SoftBank are the first cracks in an AI infrastructure boom built on mountains of debt and expectations of profits yet to materialize.

๐บ๐ธ Big threats, thin stockpiles: Pentagonโs most powerful bombs running out
As Donald Trump reportedly weighs the use of the GBU-43/B MOAB bomb, the 21,000-pound weapon nicknamed the "mother of all bombs," in a potential new round of strikes on Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear facilities, the stockpile of the Pentagon's most powerful penetrating weapons is alarmingly thin.
The US may have only a low-single-digit number of GBU-57 Massive Ordnance Penetrators left, an analysis from the Center for Strategic and International Studies estimates. The 30,000-pound bomb, designed to destroy deeply buried targets, was used 14 times against Iranian nuclear facilities during Operation Midnight Hammer in June 2025. The Pentagon has redirected $123 million toward replenishing the inventory, but new bombs will take years to arrive.
The "mother of all bombs" is even scarcer. The US built about a dozen of the GBU-43/B, one of which was used in 2017 against an Islamic State cave complex in Afghanistan. Around 10 should remain. But despite its size, the MOAB cannot penetrate as deeply as the GBU-57.
Meanwhile, Iran entrenches its high-value military facilities by burrowing further underground to put them beyond the reach of conventional weapons. Previous US attacks showed that even when targets were hit, the bombs inflicted very limited damage and the facilities kept operating.
๐ด CSIS highlights reports of 33 underground Iranian missile bases near the Strait of Hormuz, many of which have survived earlier American attacks or are being rapidly rebuilt at the moment
๐ด Iran's Pickaxe Mountain nuclear complex near Natanz may be buried so deeply inside a granite mountain that even the GBU-57 could struggle to reach it
The US retains a large inventory of smaller 2,000-pound bunker busters, but inventory stress is greatest with the largest munitions. Current bunker busters are nearly all free-fall bombs, which require delivery aircraft to fly over the target โ exposing the carrier aircraft to attack.

๐ฆ๐บ Australia to arm underwater drones with sea mines and aerial UAVs
Australia is developing new payloads for its autonomous naval drones, including sea mines and uncrewed aerial vehicles, Defense Minister Richard Marles and Defense Industry Minister Pat Conroy announced.
Ghost Shark underwater drones will be able to carry a range of mission-specific payloads, including supply caches, sea mines and aerial drones.
๐ The upgrades will also extend to Speartooth and BlueBottle unmanned surface vessels.
The systems are designed for underwater combat, seabed operations, restricting enemy access to maritime areas and protecting critical undersea infrastructure.
Under its 2026 defense strategy, Australia plans to invest up to $4 billion over 10 years in autonomous and unmanned underwater warfare capabilities, including around $1.2 billion for a fleet of Ghost Shark vehicles.

๐ฃ Houthi attacks expose cracks in Saudi Arabiaโs multi-billion-dollar defenses - report
Despite having one of the world's largest defense budgets and a hangar full of top-notch US fighters and air-defense systems, Saudi Arabia is still failing to stop Houthi missiles and drones from hammering its capital and oil facilities, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Hereโs whatโs being exposed by the Houthi strikes:
โก๏ธ A shortage of interceptors is crippling Saudi air defenses
โก๏ธ The US is providing intelligence only โ no direct military help
โก๏ธ Trump suggested taking Israeli assistance, but Saudi Arabia stayed silent
โก๏ธ Now the kingdom is scrambling for support from Turkey, Pakistan, European countries and Egypt
The Houthis keep churning out their own missiles and drones, and hide production deep underground, while constantly repositioning their launchers. They readily absorb Saudi airstrikes and hit various soft targets deep inside the kingdom.
Saudi Arabia's sheer geographic size is its Achilles' heel. Oil facilities, civilian airports and other critical infrastructure lie scattered across vast desert expanses, offering Houthi missiles and drones a target-rich landscape of unguarded gaps.
As former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia Michael Ratney put it, Riyadh will eventually need an off-ramp. The Houthis have already proven they can inflict serious damage through asymmetric warfare.
