ร‰douard-Lรฉon Scott de Martinville invented the phonautograph in 1857. It recorded sound as visual wave patterns but could not play audio. In 2008, researchers converted an 1860 recording of the French song โ€œAu Clair de la Luneโ€ into sound. It is the earliest known recording of a human voice.
Listen to it in the connected post under this one.

The first recording is how it was perceived at first, after they discovered it was the longer version that is correct.
The full original songtext:

Au clair de la lune,
Mon ami Pierrot,
Prรชte-moi ta plume
Pour รฉcrire un mot.
Ma chandelle est morte,
Je nโ€™ai plus de feu,
Ouvre-moi ta porte,
Pour lโ€™amour de Dieu.

Au clair de la lune,
Pierrot rรฉpondit :
ยซ Je nโ€™ai pas de plume,
Je suis dans mon lit. ยป
Va chez la voisine,
Je crois quโ€™elle y est,
Car dans sa cuisine
On bat le briquet.

Translation to English:

By moonlight,
My friend Pierrot,
Lend me your pen
To write a word.
My candle is out,
I have no fire left,
Open your door for me,
For the love of God.

By moonlight,
Pierrot replied:
โ€œI have no pen,
I am in my bed.
Go to the neighbor,
I think she is there,
Because in her kitchen
They are lighting a fire.โ€

Our apologies for the delay,
Here is the second version.
This version is said to be more accurate. They sped it up and changed the voice to what you can hear here.

Human blood is always red. Oxygen-rich blood is bright red, and oxygen-poor blood is darker red. Veins appear blue because skin and tissue affect how light is absorbed and scattered, not because blood is blue. The idea that blood is blue in the body is a myth.

In June 1962, three prisoners escaped from the infamous Alcatraz prison in San Francisco. Frank Morris and brothers John and Clarence Anglin spent months digging through the walls of their cells using improvised tools. They left behind realistic dummy heads made from soap, paper, and real hair to fool the guards. The men disappeared after escaping the island on a homemade raft. Despite extensive searches, they were never found, and their fate remains officially unknown.

The world's oldest known non-colonial animal was a 507-year-old ocean quahog clam nicknamed Ming. Born in 1499, the clam was dredged off the coast of Iceland in 2006 by researchers who unknowingly ended its life by freezing it and opening its shell to count the internal growth rings to verify its age.๐Ÿฆช๐ŸฅŸ๐Ÿš

Scientists are developing artificial spider silk made from engineered proteins produced in lab systems. These proteins are spun into fibers that form strong, flexible materials similar to natural spider silk. The materials can be shaped into bandage-like dressings and combined with antibiotics or antimicrobial agents to help reduce bacteria and support wound healing.

The Complaint Tablet to Ea-nฤแนฃir is a clay tablet written around 1750 BCE in Akkadian cuneiform. It is the oldest known written customer complaint. Nanni complained about poor-quality copper, rude treatment of his servant, and an unsatisfactory delivery.

In 2025 the tablet was sent on loan to the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi and is expected to be there until 2027.

Wombats produce cube-shaped droppings. Scientists discovered that the unusual shape is created by variations in the elasticity of the wombat's intestines as the waste dries and moves through the digestive tract. The cubes help prevent the droppings from rolling away, which is useful because wombats use them to mark territory on rocks, logs, and other elevated surfaces. They are the only known animals that naturally produce cube-shaped feces.

Magnolias are an ancient group of flowering plants, scientists say that they evolved over 100 million years ago and were pollinated by beetles before bees became common. Their flowers have tepals instead of separate petals and sepals. After flowering, they produce cone-like fruits with bright red seeds that birds spread, they don't digest the seeds.

Andorra has no official army, relying on treaties with Spain and France for defense. It has a small volunteer group for ceremonies. Over 57% of citizens say they would fight if needed, up from 40.9% in 2006. Historically, able-bodied men could be called to defend the country through the โ€œSometent.โ€ Only one shotgun per household is allowed; rifles and handguns need licenses. ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

The Moon takes about 29.5 Earth days to go from one sunrise to the next. Daylight lasts around 14.75 days, and night also lasts about 14.75 days. This long day and night happen because the Moon spins slowly and moves around Earth at the same time. We always see the same side of the Moon because of this. ๐ŸŒ•๐ŸŒ‘

The first hard disk drive to reach the 1-gigabyte (GB) capacity weighed approximately 227-250 kgs (500 - 550 pounds) for the main unit. This device, the IBM 3380 direct access storage device, was announced by IBM in 1980. It was roughly the size of a refrigerator and carried a price tag of approximately $40,000.

Cleopatra lived closer to the release of the first iPhone than to the completion of the Great Pyramid of Giza.

The Great Pyramid of Giza was completed around 2560 BC, while Cleopatra lived from 69 BC to 30 BC. This creates a massive gap of roughly 2,500 years between her reign and the pyramid builders. Conversely, she only lived about 2,037 years before the first iPhone was released in 2007.

This means the pyramids were actually older to Cleopatra than the Roman Empire is to us today by about 500 years. ๐Ÿ‘ธ๐Ÿ“ฑ

Bismuth crystals form distinct, geometric "hopper" or stair-step structures. This unique shape happens because the outer edges of the crystal grow much faster than the center as it cools from a molten state.
Additionally, the metal expands as it solidifies, which forces the repeating crystalline steps and funnel-like cavities to form.
