While L2s solutions have emerged to enhance scalability and reduce costs, the majority remain tightly coupled to Ethereum.
However, as blockchain adoption expands, the demand for a truly multi-chain future grows stronger.
Most L2s today focus on solving Ethereum’s congestion and high fees through rollups, state channels, and sidechains.
While effective, they face significant limitations:
• Fragmented Liquidity: Assets locked on different L2s struggle to move efficiently, leading to liquidity silos.
• L1 Dependence: Many L2s still rely on Ethereum for finality and security, limiting their autonomy.
• Cross-Chain Complexity: Bridging assets between L2s and L1s often requires centralized or semi-trusted solutions, increasing security risks.
• Scalability Bottlenecks: Despite reducing congestion on Ethereum, most L2s don’t communicate efficiently with each other, creating new bottlenecks.
With these limitations in mind Haust envision a new model where L2 are interconnected across multiple blockchains.

1️⃣ What is MEV?
MEV refers to the additional profit that validators, block builders, or searchers can extract by reordering, including, or excluding transactions in a block.
Originally known as "Maximal Extractable Value", the term evolved with Ethereum's transition to Proof of Stake, as block producers now capture it.
Think of MEV as a hidden tax on blockchain users, if not managed properly, it can lead to higher costs, failed transitions and centralization risks.
2️⃣ How Does It Work?
It exists because transactions are processed in a mempool before being finalized in a block.
Searchers and validators compete to reorder transactions in ways that maximize their profit.
The most common forms of MEV include:
• Arbitrage: Bots scan decentralized exchanges (DEXs) for price differences, executing trades to profit from inefficiencies.
• Sandwich Attacks: A form of frontrunning where an attacker places buy and sell orders around a victim's trade to manipulate prices.
• Liquidation Snipping: MEV bots compete to liquidate undercollateralized loans on lending platforms.
3️⃣ Why Does MEV Matter?
For DeFi protocols and users, understanding MEV is essential because, if you're trading os DEXs, your transaction could be targeted by MEV bots.
Lending and liquidation mechanics are heavily influenced by MEV competition.
It is present in all stages of block creation and transactions, and with future blockchain upgrades, it may change how MEV is distributed, impacting yields and fees.
4️⃣ Problems
As mentioned in the previous topic, MEV problems aren't a matter of 'if' but 'when' you'll be affected by them.
These are the three major problems people deal with:
⚠️ Higher Transaction Costs - Users often overpay in gas fees to ensure their transactions are included in the next block.
⚠️ Failed Transactions - Bots engaging in priority gas auctions (PGAs) can push transactions out of blocks, causing failures.
⚠️ Centralization Risks - The more MEV participants profit, the more sophisticated they become, making it harder for new entrants to compete.
5️⃣ Mitigation Strategies
There are several ways to minimize the negative effects of MEV.
One approach is the use of Private Mempools, allowing transactions to be submitted privately, reducing the risk of frontrunning.
Another approach is Fair Ordering Protocols, which randomizes transaction execution to limit the effectiveness of MEV strategies like sandwich attacks.
Ensuring a more equitable transaction order, these protocols help reduce the dominance of high-frequency traders and protect regular users.
