North America YAD Campaign “Though We’re Apart, Together We Can Make It”

The North American YAD is launching our campaign called “Though We’re Apart, Together We Can Make It” on Facebook and Instagram. Featured is a music video of the song ‘Harmonize’ sung by YAD members across North America. Through this difficult time when we’re all self isolating and social distancing, it is important to remind ourselves that we are still a community and that our success globally, will be dependent upon working together by respecting each other and remaining apart for everyone’s health. The Three Good Deeds are more important than ever during this difficult time, because saying kind words, thinking good thoughts and doing good deeds will make us more respectful, patient, considerate, and compassionate towards everyone. By keeping these Three Good Deeds foremost in our hearts, we will have the strength and wisdom to successfully do our part in this crisis. The photo frame with our slogan is designed to to remind everyone to stay safe and to do their part, so that we can get through this together.

Birth of Buddha
On April 8 (lunar), over 2,600 years ago, Queen Maya of Kapilavastu gave birth to Prince Siddhartha under an asoka tree in Lumbini Garden. He was to become the Buddha after leaving worldly life behind and attaining enlightenment. After his birth, with one hand pointing to the heavens and the other to the earth, the prince said, “Heaven above and earth below, I am the World-Honored One” which meant in all the universe, only realizing our own Buddha nature is the most noble and the most valuable. At that moment, the Four Heavenly Kings and nine dragons rained fragrant water from the sky, bathing the body of the prince.
Therefore, on this day every year, Buddhists prepare a sweet tea from fragrant herbs and spices and bathe statues of the Buddha in celebration of the Buddha’s birthday.

✨Buddha's birthday is tomorrow April 30 (Lunar April 8). It's the day when Buddhists celebrate the arrival of Prince Siddhartha, who later become Gautama Buddha. This day is also called Bathing of the Buddha day.

✏️The Buddha doesn't want people to merely pour scented, blessed water over a statue. Every year, on Buddha's birthday, this bathing ritual is performed with reverence and a purified mind to remind fellow Buddhists that "it's easy to wash away physical dirt, but much more difficult to cleanse one's inner impurity, greed, anger and ignorance. Only a pure and focused mind reaches enlightenment."
