The refrigeration cycle and reversing valve operation in a heat pump system, which provides both heating and cooling. The compressor pressurizes the refrigerant, sending it through the discharge port toward the outdoor coil (condenser in cooling mode, evaporator in heating mode). A metering device (expansion valve) regulates the refrigerant flow before entering the indoor coil, which functions as either an evaporator or condenser depending on the mode. The reversing valve directs the refrigerant flow, switching between heating and cooling modes. In cooling mode, heat is expelled outdoors, while in heating mode, heat is absorbed from outside and transferred indoors. The control circuit and solenoid valve regulate the reversing valve operation based on thermostat signals. This system allows for energy-efficient temperature control in all seasons, making heat pumps a sustainable HVAC solution.

2-ton air conditioner with a power of 2400W at 230V and a 0.8 power factor draws a current of 13.04 Amperes.
Here is a quick reference chart for common Refrigerant Standing, Suction, Discharge Pressure, and Boiling Temperatures (R-22, R-410a, R-32, etc.). Extremely helpful for troubleshooting and servicing.

Anyone have a solution? A month and 3 HVAC techs later..here is a photo of the make/model unit we have, a Trane XR. Our issue is with the heating. If the temp drops below 45 outside, the unit will give a soft lockout fault (5 red lights), the fan stops running, only cool air blowing out of vents. We’ve had several techs out. The capacitor was replaced last summer. Within the last month they have replaced the fan motor, coil temp sensor, contactor, and control board. The first time they bypassed the fault, and it happened again, with the bypass in place. It does defrost itself (the whooshing sound) and the motor is not hot when it faults. It seems like anytime it needs to run longer due to the temp outside, it faults. Is it just time to buy a new unit or is there a fix?
