More people are using mobile phones and computers to communicate. Therefore, people are losing the ability to communicate with each other face to face. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

@yourIELTS
Now you are benefiting from the use of mobile phone and the Internet as social interaction media, could you imagine what your daily lives would be without these inventions? Some people claim that individuals are gradually losing face-to-face communication skills. Nevertheless, from personal perspective, online communication cannot make people lose the ability of offline communication.
@yourIELTS
Apparently, excessive use of the Internet and mobile phones has been undermining our interpersonal relationship offline. Even during a face-to-face conversation, it is no rare thing that everyone is busy looking at his cell phones, neglecting his friends or families across the dinner table. In addition, it has become incredibly easy to contact each other electronically and share information instantly in social community. Gone are the days when people could only communicate via fixed telephone or writing letters which took several days to reach others. So no one is not crazy about smart phones and computers which boast cutting-edge functions like sharing photos and videos with more friends simultaneously.

In spite of the popularity of technological progress mentioned above, never should we turn a blind eye to the irreplaceablity of face-to-face communication. It is common that many schools impart knowledge to students by teaching in classrooms instead of distance education. The same is true of the cooperation among companies, which needs face to face conversation to acquire trust with each other in advance. Furthermore, although online contact may possess increasing numbers of friends, the permanence of mutual relationships cannot lack face-to-face interactions, which can be confirmed by the example of the closest friends and even loving couples. Besides, solving tricky issues are generally more effective and more convenient by surrounding colleagues or friends then by those who live and work in remote places and need online communication.
@yourIELTS
As far as social interaction is concerned, although the cell phone and the Internet have updated the lives of the current generation. People cannot forget how to make offline communication with each other.

As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Businesses have always sought to make a profit, but it is becoming increasingly common to hear people talk about the social obligations that companies have. I completely agree with the idea that businesses should do more for society than simply make money.

On the one hand, I accept that businesses must make money in order to survive in a competitive world. It seems logical that the priority of any company should be to cover its running costs, such as employees’ wages and payments for buildings and utilities. On top of these costs, companies also need to invest in improvements and innovations if they wish to remain successful. If a company is unable to pay its bills or meet the changing needs of customers, any concerns about social responsibilities become irrelevant. In other words, a company can only make a positive contribution to society if it is in good financial health.

On the other hand, companies should not be run with the sole aim of maximising profit; they have a wider role to play in society. One social obligation that owners and managers have is to treat their employees well, rather than exploiting them. For example, they could pay a “living wage” to ensure that workers have a good quality of life. I also like the idea that businesses could use a proportion of their profits to support local charities, environmental projects or education initiatives. Finally, instead of trying to minimise their tax payments by using accounting loopholes, I believe that company bosses should be happy to contribute to society through the tax system.

In conclusion, I believe that companies should place as much importance on their social responsibilities as they do on their financial objectives.

As well as making money, businesses also have social responsibilities.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Sample Answer:
It is sometimes argued that businesses have many important responsibilities towards societal issues along with making money. I completely agree with this notion that corporations should be working on tackling socio-economic problems and should not only concentrate on making money.

Corporations have always been inclined towards making money. It is true that the money driven approaches are fundamentally important to gain financial success. If companies or associates do not work hard to increase profitability, they would not be able to compete in the market in terms of providing more and more employment facility to people, and eventually to help eradicate poverty. In addition, without earning enough money, businesses cannot even invest in raising social values.

However, corporations should have a duty to fulfill societal needs instead of solely striving for more and more money. Social responsibilities mean tackling the global challenges. These most pressing issues include climate change, poverty, inequity and resources or water scarcity. Take Unilever, a pharmaceutical multinational company, as an example- this high-profile organization has had a profound record of giving medical or other financial aid to the most deprived people of developing countries. As a result of these holistic and intensive social measures they are becoming increasingly successful in managing and solving poverty and health related problems in respective impoverished neighbourhoods.

To sum up, while successful and profitable businesses are fundamentally important to boost economy by generating revenues through earning more profit, social and environmental issues should also be included into their priority list of core planes.

Some countries achieve international sporting success by building specialized facilities to train top athlete instead of providing sports facilities that everyone can use. Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
Sample Answer:
@ibtil

Many spectators would be too exhilarated to resist their feelings when they see their national flag rise with the national anthem in Olympic Games. These sports feats can hardly be achieved without some specialized facilities to train the most promising sportsmen. Although patriotism can be aroused by excellent performance, I hold the view that more sports facilities should be built to cater for the need of the public.
@yourIELTS

On latent problem for the intended construction of specialized facilities exclusively for sportsmen is that it may dampen public’s enthusiasm for sports. Being discouraged from using the sports facilities, they are likely to believe that the access to sports is only a priority to a small proportion of top athletes. Whether these facilities can be utilized is based on how much contribution to the country instead of the basic principle that each individual has the right to shape their bodies by some sports facilities.

Another problem that will arise is that the potential talent pool of gifted athletes will be drained and lose its continuous supply. Most top sportsmen are not born to the stars, and their aptitude of sports occurs when they are jogging on the playground, playing tennis in the tennis court and running on the football pitch. Without the sports facilities accessible to the common people, their sports talent is unlikely to be found and then fully harnessed.
@ibtil

There are certainly some benefits of the specialized facilities construction. The top sportsmen can be professionally trained without much disturb of the public, thereby concentrating on their physical practice. They can also make full of these facilities to boost their body and improve their professionalism. However, the beneficiaries are narrowly constrained with a small proportion of people and the sports resources are somewhat wasted.
@ibtil

In conclusion, the benefit of sports facilities should be enjoyed by more individuals rather than only meet the need of the sports elites.

#Writing_Task1_20161203 The table shows the maximum, minimum and average monthly salaries in a European country in five employment sector in 2009. @yourIELTS
Sample answer:
@ibtil
The table compares the average salary in five different sectors in a particular European nation in the year 2009.

It is clear that financial sector could provide the most attractive salary. By contrast, people who worked in hotel were paid the lowest each month.

Looking at the financial sector in details first, the maximum wage in this sector was above €7,000 monthly, and the average salary also ranked the first compared with other five sectors, at around €2,500 per month. By contrast, the salary in hotel industry in this country was not attractive, ranging from around €880 to 2,100 per month and in terms of average salary, the average employee was paid the lowest.
@ibtil
As for transport and construction industry, although the figures for minimum and average salary were very close, people working in transport sector could be offered relatively higher salaries, with around €5,500 per month. Finally, apart from hotel industry, the salary gap was the smallest in manufacturing industry, at approximately €2,000 per month.

@ibtil

@aalaeeTOEFLiBT

Some people think they have the right to use as much fresh water as they want, while others think fresh water should be tightly controlled by governments because it is limited resource. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

@ibtil
Sample Answer:

@ibtil

Fresh water is a necessity in human’s daily life but how to use it varies in different societies. Some people take unlimited water consumption for granted, but others think that it is governments’ obligation to control fresh water as it is limited.

It is true that most residents in developed countries and coastal nations do not need to worry about the shortage of fresh water. Sophisticated infrastructures and sufficient precipitation can guarantee sufficient water supply. The price that these occupants need to pay is water bills and they can use as much water as they want if only they can afford it. Thus, it is undoubted that some of them hold the opinion that they can utilize the resource freely if they want.

@yourIELTS

While many other people do not need to concern about water consumption, it is also a fact that a large number of inhabitants in many developing countries have no access to clean water because of its scarcity. In those countries, natural environment and climate like droughts have a negative effect on water supply. What is worse, the poor situation makes water even more precious. If people use as much water as they want in those areas, it can almost be sure that water supply will fail to meet some people’s daily need. Therefore, it is reasonable that local officials limit the individual water use and people who waste it will be punished.

@ibtil

In my opinion, fresh water should not be used without any restriction. Water supply depends on heavily on natural environment that it can be regarded as limited resource in some countries. Water conservation, whether it is advocated by government or not, is what people should insist on.

#IELTS_Speaking_Part_1:

@yourIELTS

1. Describe the place you live in.

Well, now I live in a terraced house in the city centre with my family. It’s a three-storey house with a small garden at the front.

@ibtil

2. Which is your favorite room in your house?

It’s definitely the kitchen, where our family gathers ever)’ evening to enjoy dinner after an arduous working day. I always love the mouth watering aroma of the food my mom cooks and cherish the time that I share with my family over the evening meal.

3. Is there anything you want to change in your house?

Actually, I haven’t ever thought about that, but if I could change one thing, I would paint my room yellow and draw a picture on the wall. At the moment, it’s painted pink but I have got tired of this color now.

4. Are there many parks in your country?

I’m not too sure about the whole country, but here in the crowded capital, there are several parks with large lakes, providing green spaces for people who want to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. So, I guess we have a lot of parks in all the big cities across the country.

5. What do people often do in public parks in your country’?

Well, generally, people go there to get away from the crowds and enjoy the fresh air. They can do many types of activities such as going jogging, cycling, taking exercise, just sitting on a bench watching the world go by, or even dating.

6. How often do you go to public parks?

Well, it depends. For instance, if I finish my work early, I will go to the park near my office to do a bit of jogging and relax. Otherwise. I usually go home and put my feet up. However, I’m trying to keep the routine of going jogging in the park at least once a week to stay fit.

7. Are the activities you do in the park now different from what you did in the past?

Yes, they have changed, obviously When I was a kid, I only saw the park as a playground where I could play on the merry-go-round with my friends. However, now I go there mostly to take exercise and enjoy the peace and tranquility.

@ibtil

8. What did you often do in public parks when you were a child?

When I was a toddler, my parents took me to the park every weekend to play with the other kids. As far as I can recollect, the thing I liked the most was to play on the merry-go-round, slide and seesaw When I was a bit older, I used to play football in the park with my friends.

Describe one of your best (= one of your close, or good) friends.
You should say:
who this person is
who long you have known them (= him or her)
Or how you first met
what you do together
and explain why you think this person is a good friend

@yourIELTS

BAND 9.0 SAMPLE ANSWER:

I would like to describe my best friend, Anna, whom I have known for roughly 10 years. I first met her at primary school when she was my classmate.
At first, she was quite shy and did not want to talk with anyone, which made me feel that she was a bit proud. However, when we became close friends, she was more sociable and amiable.
We have done a lot of things together. Studying at the same schools, we have various mutual friends. So, we usually throw parties at the weekends or have a picnic together. Besides, whenever I get into trouble, I turn to her for help. For example. I remember when I got bad marks in the mock university entrance exam, she consoled me and then we studied together until the official exam took place.
Finally, we had the opportunity to study at our favorite college. At present, despite the fact that we have different plans and goals to pursue, I believe that we will be best friends for good and we will try our best to maintain this relationship.

@ibtil

Useful expressions & vocabulary:

roughly: (adverb) approximately, but not exactly.
Example: In the exam. I wrote roughly 300 words for my essay.

close friends: [expression] friends who know each other very well and like each other a lot.
Example: Close friends usually share the same interests and have no secrets from each other.

amiable: [adjective] pleasant and easy to like
Example: Our form teacher is very amiable and we all enjoy the relaxed atmosphere in her classes.

mutual friends [expression]: friends which are shared by two or more people.
Example: Although we had not met before, when we started chatting, we discovered that we had some mutual friends.

throw parties: [expression] give parties.
Example: Some Hollywood film stars throw parties which hundreds of people attend.

consoled: [verb] gave sympathy to someone who is unhappy.
Example: After the team lost the match, the coach consoled the players and told them that they had played well.

for good: [expression] permanently
Example: I decided to leave New York for good and move to Europe.
try our best: do as much as possible to achieve something
Example: Although we tried our best, we failed the exam.
#IELTS_Speaking_Part_3:

@ibtil

1. Do you agree with the opinion: “family is much more important than friends”?

Well, I agree with this idea, because for me, the family is irreplaceable. Members of a family share the same blood and are have an unbreakable bond with each other, which outsiders can never feel. I think the ties of kinship are stronger than any other relationships, and no matter how far apart you are, this connection can’t be erased For instance, parents always give their children unconditional love and support them wholeheartedly … and although siblings may fight, they 11 definitely stick up for each other if one is threatened in any way.

2. What is the difference between the friendship of men-men and women- women?

Obviously, there are several recognizable dissimilarities here. The most significant one might be that while male friendships are normally based on shared activities, especially sports, such as football, baseball or tennis, female friendships tend to be more emotional as they often share then feelings with each other. In addition, when it comes to arguments, men are the ones who find it easier to settle them physically, whereas it takes longer for women to make up with each other again after a disagreement.

3. Do you think the friendship between men-men lasts longer than that of women?

Well, actually I don’t think so. Although the way men and women treat their same-sex friends is quite different, I suppose that the length of a friendship truly depends on the personalities of each person in the relationship, and how much they understand each other, rather than the gender. For example, I have some intimate friends who I’ve known for over 10 years and our friendship is still going strong and they have really become my soulmates So, I believe that friendships among girls can also last a lifetime.

@ibtil

4. Do you think bosses and employees can be friends?

Yes, I think it’s possible that the relationships between bosses and employees can be developed further than just workplace relationships. When the manager and the employee understand and work well with each other, especially if they are of the same generation, they can easily become friends, of course, outside the company. As people simply make friends when they find the similarities between then souls, bosses and employees are no exception. However, in my opinion, they should keep an appropriate distance at work so as to do then jobs effectively.
