Under eIDAS 2, a "EU Digital Identity Wallet" (EUDI Wallet) is being mandated for release this year — 2026 — for use in "government services, healthcare, banking, employment, travel, and real estate."

The EU is forcing member nations to minimally "offer" it to citizens. —whether its citizens must use the EUDI wallet is up to the country, but EU's goal is 80% adoption by 2030.

Chicken meat processor Hazeldenes in central Victoria has led it to shutdown its wi-fi system on site, and a shortage of chicken at pubs and butchers across the state.

India shuts down fertilizer plants

Unable to get LNG after Qatar stopped production, Indian urea production is grinding to a halt.

Restarting a facility is non-trivial and can take up to a month — this is not something which can quickly be resolved.

Global urea prices were already up in the last days; where farmers can't fertilize, yields will drop. Thee both mean Less food — and more expensive.

Iranian "hacktivists" have claimed credit for a cyberattack on US medical device maker Stryker, remotely wiping employee device and stopping operations. Stryker makes defibrillators and surgical/imaging equipment.

The Iranian hacker collective Handala (mentioned above in recent posts) claims they targeted Stryker in retaliation for US bombing of all-girls school in Iran. They say they have wiped more that 200,000 Stryker systems, servers, and mobile devices and stole 50 terabytes of critical data, forcing Stryker offices in 79 countries to shut down.

Cyberattack leaves drivers with breathalyzer test systems unable to start vehicles

A cyberattack has shut down a nationwide breathalyzer test system found in vehicles of OUI offenders, impacting thousands of drivers in Maine and 45 other states.

Intoxalock is the company targeted by the attack.

Once the device is installed, drivers have to pass a breathalyzer test before they can start their vehicle. It won't start if your blood alcohol is .02 or higher. But since the cyber breach shut its entire system down on Saturday, anyone with one of the devices cannot start their car.

"Anybody that's locked out has remained locked out. There's people that haven't been able to drive since Saturday, if that's their only vehicle," he said.

Australia: Diesel Shortages (or at least the optics?)

At least 107 fuel stations across the state of New South Wales (NSW) in Australia have run out of diesel as panic buying has outstripped supply, premier Chris Minns said today.

Most of the affected stations are operated by independent fuel retailers who source their fuel from importers. Those importers have started rationing fuel sales to non-contracted buyers so they may honour existing contracts with customers.

Remember: I'd mentioned in a previous report that the fuel wholesalers were instructed to only provide 50% of what customers ordered — despite still-adequate supply. I'm not convinced this is a real shortage as much as the optics being engineered...but it's hard to say for sure.
