5 Interior Design Mistakes

Interior design is an exciting process that allows you to unleash your creativity and sense of style. However, a concept brought to life often falls short of the initial vision due to minor planning mistakes. Let’s explore 5 common interior design mistakes and how to avoid them.

📌 Choosing the Wrong Color

Before committing to a primary color, run a quick "test": apply a small paint sample to the wall and observe how it changes throughout the day. This will help you understand how the color looks under different lighting conditions. Additionally, aim for balanced palettes that combine light and dark shades to create a harmonious interior.

📌 Insufficient Lighting

Use layered lighting. Combine various light sources: ceiling fixtures, wall sconces, floor lamps, and table lamps. This will help create a cozy atmosphere and allow you to flexibly adjust the brightness depending on the task at hand and your mood.

📌 Overcrowding with Furniture and Decor

Before buying furniture, carefully measure the space and plan the layout. Opt for functional pieces that serve multiple purposes, such as sofas with built-in storage or extendable tables. Avoid overloading the space with decor, as negative space plays a crucial role in interior design too.

📌 Ignoring Proportions and Scale

Pay attention to the scale of your furniture relative to the space. Large rooms can accommodate substantial, bulky pieces, while smaller ones benefit from compact, visually lightweight furniture. Also, consider your ceiling height: if the ceilings are low, avoid tall wardrobes and heavy, oversized light fixtures.

📌 Lack of a Cohesive Style

Define your primary design direction: minimalism, Scandinavian, classic, or any other style. This doesn’t mean you can’t mix different styles, but it’s important to stick to an overarching theme and avoid cluttering the space.

How to Become a Stylist and Image Consultant and Work Online Worldwide

The profession of a style and image consultant combines working with fashion, helping people transform their appearance, and earning a high income. The main advantage of this field is the absence of geographical or age restrictions. You can start your career from scratch from anywhere in the world, all you need is internet access.

What Does a Specialist Do and Where Do They Work?

A style and image consultant advises clients on personal style, selects clothing, and accompanies them during shopping trips. Most professionals work as freelancers. A specialist may work locally within their city, travel abroad with clients, or provide consultations entirely online. The target audience ranges from everyday individuals to VIPs, politicians, and entertainment industry representatives.
When traveling internationally, clients typically cover transportation and accommodation expenses.

How to Enter the Profession: Education

A second university degree is not required for this profession and is often considered unnecessary, since the field is practical and demands hands-on experience rather than lengthy theoretical study. European master’s programs in fashion styling cost between €15,000 and €25,000 and last 1–3 years, which many experts consider an unjustifiably long period.

The optimal option is specialized courses lasting 4–6 months.

Study Format: Online

Prêt-à-porter or Haute Couture? Understanding the Fashion World in 5 Minutes

Dream of creating clothes but get confused by the terminology? No problem! We’ve prepared a simple cheat sheet to help you understand the "language" of the fashion industry.

■ Prêt-à-porter (Ready-to-wear)

Translated as "ready to wear." This is the clothing we see in stores: dresses, jackets, and trousers in standard sizes.
— Main seasons: Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter.
Essence: All items are united by a single idea—color, fabric, or mood. For example, a marine theme with blue shades and light silhouettes.

■ Haute Couture (High Fashion)

This is pure art! Here, fantasy and craftsmanship reign supreme. Hundreds of hours of handwork, intricate embroidery, feathers, and unique shapes.
Goal: To showcase the designer’s vision rather than create everyday clothing. Shows often resemble theatrical performances.

■ Resort / Cruise (Cruise Collection)

An intermediate season. Historically, it was created for those who traveled to warm countries for winter vacations. Today, it is a mix of lightweight clothing, knitwear, and even outerwear suitable for travel.

■ Pre-Fall (Pre-Autumn Collection)

Released before the main Fall/Winter line. It is the most practical part of the wardrobe! This is where design ideas are best adapted to real life. For beginners, it is an ideal example of how a sketch transforms into a wearable garment.

▸ Where to train your eye?

We recommend the Vogue Runway resource. Choose one favorite designer (Chanel, Dior, Gucci...) and browse through several of their collections in a row. This way, you will learn to see proportions, color work, and the logic behind building a collection.

▸ Want to create your first collection?

You don’t have to wait years for inspiration! In the "Fashion Designer" course at the Italian Fashion School, you will go from idea and sketches to a finished series of models.
• Online training with instructors from Italy.
• You can start from scratch.
• There is also a program for teenagers aged 12 and up.

Perhaps today you are watching a Chanel show, and tomorrow you will be creating your own brand.

The work of our interior design course student – Aisha Patel.
As part of her studying, the student developed an office interior design project.
In such work, it is important to consider not only a beautiful visual but also how comfortable the space will be for the people who work in it every day: the layout of workstations, a meeting room, client meeting areas, storage, a kitchen, lighting, and the overall mood of the interior.
It is through such projects that students learn to solve real-world design tasks: analyzing client requests, working on layout and zoning, selecting materials, furniture, and color schemes, and then bringing it all together into a cohesive project.
During their studies, our students gradually build their own portfolios with projects that can be shown to future clients.
If you are also interested in learning how to create interiors from scratch, understand layouts, colors, materials, and professional project presentation, you can start your training in the Interior Designer course.

Start of the new Interior Designer course cohort: November 2.
The early booking price is valid until this date. After the start, full support begins, including work reviews and feedback from the mentor.

Couture or prêt-à-porter? Can you tell the difference from a photograph?👗

We have previously discussed in our posts the different types of designer collections.

Haute couture is high fashion. These are intricate, often unique pieces featuring a significant amount of handcrafting. They may utilize expensive fabrics, embroidery, hand-applied embellishments, and complex execution techniques.

Prêt-à-porter is ready-to-wear clothing. These are designer collections created for production and sale in standard sizes. Such items can also be highly intricate, unusual, and striking, which is why distinguishing prêt-à-porter from couture based on appearance alone can be challenging.

Now let us test your knowledge.
The photo carousel features 4 looks from the collections of famous fashion houses.

Which ones do you think are couture, and which are prêt-à-porter?
Write your guesses in the comments, and in 2 days we will post the correct answers. Perhaps you can even guess the designers?
