It is of moderate difficulty. And there are mainly three factors that make it difficult. 

Three strenuous pass crossings – Gadsar Pass, Nichnai Pass, and Zach Pass

Long hours of trekking everyday. Each day involves around 8-9 hours of trekking.

Considerable altitude gain everyday, of around 1500 – 2000 ft.

The construction of elevated expressway is expected to shorten the distance between these two cities and bring it down to just 180 kilometres, PTI reported. Currently, the route from Delhi to Dehradun is around 250 kilometres. The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway project is also likely to shorten the travel time by half to just two and a half hours.

Apart from this, the National Highway Authority of India has been working on many expressway projects simultaneously. The government is working on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway which is expected to be completed in three years time and will cut down the distance between the two cities by 280 km. As a result, travellers can reach Mumbai from Delhi in 12 hours.

The Ganga Expressway will have 6 lanes with a provision of expanding up to 8 lanes. However, all the structures will be constructed keeping in mind of eight-lane width.

In line with the Union government’s plan to make Ladakh the first union territory (UT) to run completely on renewable energy and reduce the heavy dependence of diesel in the area, the ministry of new and renewable energy is planning to run hydrogen fuel celled buses in Leh. In a meeting with experts on ‘Hydrogen Mission’ held here on Wednesday in the ministry of new and renewable energy (MNRE), state-run power generator NTPC agreed to jointly launch a project to promote emission-free buses in Leh.
