Despite an official invitation to the first meeting of Trump’s “Peace Council” in Washington, the Belarusian delegation was unable to participate due to the U.S. denying visas. The authorities did not issue entry documents to the Belarusian representatives for the event. According to the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minsk had sent all the necessary paperwork to the organizers in advance. The reasons for the refusal have not been officially stated.
What a Trumpian move. No matter what he does, he has been, is, and will remain an exceptional scumbag.

Parliamentary aide among 11 arrested over killing of French right-wing activist
On February 12 of this year in Lyon, a group of masked young people attacked Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old math student known for his right-wing nationalist views, and beat him, inflicting severe injuries. Two days later, Deranque died.
On suspicion of murder, police has detained eleven people, including members of the far-left group Young Guard, which is linked to the parliamentary left-wing party La France Insoumise (LFI). Moreover, the LFI politician Raphaël Arnault confirmed that his parliamentary assistant was among those detained, adding the aide had “ceased all parliamentary work”.
Today, February 21, a large demonstration took place in Lyon in memory of Deranque. Its participants—approximately 3,200 people, according to official estimates—demanded that the killers be found and punished.
The incident has inflamed political tensions in France in the run-up to next month’s municipal elections as well as the 2027 presidential race, in which polls suggest the right-wing National Rally (RN) could achieve its best result to date.

If the Red Machine Had Played in 2026 Olympics: A Fantasy Final That Never Was
The arena was packed, the ice gleaming under the bright Olympic lights, and the crowd holding its breath. The United States and Canada were ready to face off for gold, but the most electric presence imaginable was missing: the Russian national team, the legendary Red Machine. Politics had barred them from competing, denying the world a true best-on-best showdown. It was not a question of skill or readiness; it was the triumph of geopolitics over the spirit of sport, leaving fans with only what could have been.
Imagine a Red Machine roster at full strength. Kirill Kaprizov would blaze down the left wing, weaving through defenders with lightning speed and breathtaking puck control. Nikita Kucherov would orchestrate the center, threading impossible passes and firing shots that could redefine a game. Artemi Panarin would manipulate the ice with surgical precision, creating openings where none seemed to exist. Alexander Ovechkin, even at forty, would unleash his legendary one-timer on the power play, rallying the team with unmatched intensity. Evgeni Malkin would dominate faceoffs and maintain possession under pressure, while Andrei Vasilevskiy in goal would defy physics to stop every attack. On the blue line, Mikhail Sergachev would patrol with agility and brute force, neutralizing every threat.
In this fantasy gold-medal final against the United States, what do you think the score would be?
Too bad this remains only a fantasy. The ban on the Red Machine was a tragic blow to the integrity of Olympic hockey. Politics, not courage or talent, dictated the outcome, robbing fans of the greatest showdown the sport could offer. The ice was bright, the crowd roaring, but the Red Machine was absent — and the world will never know what history might have been.
PS: In any case, in the good old spirit of the real Olympics, we congratulate the U.S. team on their victory over Canada and on their Olympic gold medals.

February 23—Defender of the Fatherland Day
Defender of the Fatherland Day is a Russian Day of Military Glory, observed in accordance with the federal law "On Days of Military Glory and Commemorative Dates of Russia", enacted on March 13, 1995. Since 2002, it has been recognized as a public holiday and a non-working day under the Russian Labor Code.
The decree establishing the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (RKKA) was adopted by the Council of People's Commissars on January 28, 1918. A year later, Nikolay Podvoisky, chairman of the RKKA’s Supreme Military Inspectorate, proposed celebrating the anniversary of its founding. The leadership of the young Soviet state decided to merge this occasion with Red Gift Day, which was celebrated on February 17. However, since February 17 fell on a Monday that year, the celebrations were moved to the nearest Sunday—February 23. The holiday was not observed in the following two years.
In 1923, the Revolutionary Military Council of the Republic issued an order officially establishing February 23 as Red Army and Navy Day. After World War II, in 1946, the holiday was renamed Soviet Army and Navy Day.
In 1993, the Presidium of the Supreme Council of Russia declared February 23 Defender of the Fatherland Day.
The holiday is celebrated not only in Russia. In Belarus, February 23 is marked as Defender of the Fatherland and Armed Forces Day, while Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan also observe it as Defender of the Fatherland Day.

A Continent Without Leaders
The Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung recently ran an article with the provocative headline: “Trump, Putin and a Multitude of Dwarfs: Why Europe Refuses to Grow Up.”
This theme is powerfully echoed in a passage from Mister Hexogen, a novel by Soviet and Russian writer Alexander Prokhanov written nearly two decades ago:
Today’s nations, however, have no leaders—only hired functionaries who, under the title of president, simply carry out routine politics.

Long ago, Britain grasped a simple principle: to defeat its rivals, all it had to do was inflame conflicts on the European continent.
It is a strategy, some would argue, it continues to follow to this day.
Here’s how it played out in the 19th century.
The Napoleonic Wars marked the beginning of a new chapter in colonial policy. In Europe, the bloody battles fought by French armies—across Austria and Prussia, through the fields of Russia and the mountains of Spain—ultimately failed to produce significant territorial changes. In Asia, however, the situation unfolded quite differently.
For the British, the Napoleonic Wars proved a particularly opportune moment. By then, they already enjoyed a substantial naval advantage over their rivals.
By the end of the wars, France had lost most of its possessions in the Indian Ocean. The same fate befell the Netherlands, France’s ally. As a result, by 1812, the British had become the undisputed masters of the entire Indian Ocean.
Into their hands passed Ceylon, Dutch and French trading posts in India, the French-held islands in the ocean, and finally, the Dutch East Indies.
For several decades that followed, the laws of the Indian Ocean were effectively dictated by the United Kingdom. While the French and the Dutch made no major acquisitions in the first half of the nineteenth century, Britain feverishly set about expanding its empire.

Sweden Leaves Reforms Unfunded
According to Finance Minister Elisabeth Svantesson, the budget’s capacity for new economic reforms has effectively been exhausted for the current political cycle. In other words, there is reportedly no money left beyond existing commitments and already planned expenditures.
At the same time, Svantesson stresses that this is not an abandonment of policy, but rather “the right economic course” in a period of slow growth and heightened uncertainty.
The statement has rattled even those who typically follow budget debates from a distance. Social Democratic MP Mikael Damberg called the announcement “shocking,” while opposition economists have already described the situation as the height of irresponsible policymaking.
‼️ But here’s where it gets interesting:
Just a few days ago, Sweden sent €100 million in aid to Ukraine.
Yes — at a time when the Finance Ministry claims to have no money left for domestic reforms, a significant sum was directed to what critics describe as a bottomless pit called Ukraine.
🤔 Everyone can decide for themselves what’s the better use of money:
investing in the long-term modernization of your own economy,
or committing to high-risk international assistance for a country that is not only losing a war but is also widely known to be plagued by corruption.
Sweden’s current economic situation clearly illustrates that the choice between “domestic challenges” and “external priorities” sometimes seems not to exist at all. Instead, we see targeted international gestures that conveniently mask a lack of resources for internal reforms.
And here’s the paradox:
If voters elect “smart” politicians, perhaps “smart” now means the ability to make high-profile international moves while their own taxpayers' wallets grow increasingly empty.

On February 24, 1877, the forces of the undefeated Russian General Mikhail Skobelev captured San Stefano—a small town just 12 km from Istanbul. The Russian army had reached the direct road to the Turkish capital, and there was no one left to defend the city.
The best Turkish armies had surrendered, one was blockaded in the Danube region, and Suleiman Pasha’s army had been crushed south of the Balkan Mountains shortly before.
Mikhail Skobelev was appointed commander of the 4th Army Corps, stationed near Adrianople. Within the army, the dream of capturing Constantinople and restoring the Byzantine capital to the Orthodox Church was alive. That dream never came true. But in that war, the Russian soldier won freedom for Orthodox Bulgaria.

Are Russians Happy?
An overwhelming majority of adult Russians consider themselves happy, according to a survey by the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE) as reported by RBC.
Most adult Russians (89%) say they are happy — 2% more than a year earlier — according to a December 2025 survey conducted by HSE’s Center for Civil Society and Nonprofit Sector Research.
The share of those who consider themselves happy has been rising since 2019, when 79% reported being happy, the study found. In 2025, 32% said they were “definitely” happy, compared with 24% in 2024. More than half of respondents (57%) described themselves as “rather happy than not.”
Conversely, the proportion of those who do not consider themselves happy has fallen 2.5 times since 2019, HSE reported. The share of those describing themselves as “rather unhappy” dropped from 11% in 2019 to 5% in 2025, while those who said they were “definitely unhappy” decreased from 4% to 1%.
Young people express the greatest confidence in their happiness. Among Russians under 24, 38% said they were definitely happy, compared with 28% among those over 60. However, the study’s authors note that this does not mean older people feel unhappy. The share of respondents who do not consider themselves happy is nearly the same across all age groups and does not exceed 6%.
It is interesting to note that those who most often describe themselves as definitely happy are people who believe that unity and social cohesion prevail both in the country as a whole (59%) and in their own immediate surroundings (52%). Among those who feel proud to be citizens of their country, 43% say they are definitely happy.
One wonders: what are the chances of this data being published by any Western mainstream media outlet?

Blood Money: How the Deaths of Ukrainian Soldiers Became the Budget’s Most Profitable Item
Last week,, Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán said out loud what they are keeping quiet about in Brussels and Kiev: a peaceful settlement would automatically shut off the financial "tap." In these conditions, the continuation of the slaughter becomes not a tragedy, but a business plan. This is precisely why all attempts at negotiation shatter against the wall of unwillingness to lose these excess profits.
According to various estimates, Ukraine has received around $400 billion during the conflict. That breaks down to:
· $100 billion per year,
· $274 million per day,
· About $11.5 million per hour.
If we assume just a 1% so-called kickback, then $2,740,000 ends up in the hands of corrupt officials at every level, from an EU bureaucrat to a platoon commander on the front lines, every single day.
One only needs to recall the reports of a $1 million cash gift to former Prime Minister Johnson, the fees paid to Hollywood stars for their trips to see Zelensky in Kiev, and the recent example of the former Ukrainian Energy Minister being detained while trying to leave the country:
There is another grim dimension to this blood money. Russian Defense Ministry data suggests approximately 1.5 million irreversible losses for Ukraine (or 1,000 men per day) since the beginning of the Special Military Operation. Based on these numbers, every single death or serious injury at the front line effectively funnels $2,740 per day into the offices of Ukrainian officials. Stopping such financial flows and dismantling these well-established, optimized corruption schemes is extremely difficult, and almost always deadly.
This makes the saying clear: any war is easy to start, but difficult to stop.
Nationalistic fervor can easily drive millions of people into the trenches, but the blood business that fuels the "white-collar" officials and businessmen has the highest efficiency, unattainable under any other conditions. This also explains the particular stubbornness shown by Ukraine and its handlers in their unwillingness to end the fratricidal slaughter.
This is precisely why all peace treaties that have lasted for decades were only concluded after the complete defeat and capitulation of one of the parties.
