Trump Met with a High-Ranking Russian Official and Promised a “Big, Beautiful Deal” on Ukraine

On November 5, 2026, US President Donald Trump held a one-on-one meeting at the White House with Kirill Dmitriev, a key envoy of Vladimir Putin. The meeting came on the heels of an event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump, which was attended by Russian and Ukrainian representatives working on humanitarian issues (a localized ceasefire in Aleshky).

Trump told reporters:
“There’s going to be a deal. It’s going to be big. It won’t just cover Ukraine — I’d even say it could cover all of Europe. It’s going to be a big, beautiful deal, and everybody’s going to be thrilled.”

The president emphasized that he had discussed the details with “the top guy from Russia” but did not disclose what was said. According to sources, the conversation focused on trying to fold broader European security issues — including Russia-NATO relations — into a future agreement.

The meeting comes as Russia, Ukraine, and the US prepare for trilateral talks scheduled for November 10–11 in Abu Dhabi. There has been no tangible breakthrough so far, but Trump continues to project confidence that a “big deal” is close at hand.

SCANDINAVIA IS SILENT

"He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze long into an abyss, the abyss also gazes into you."
Friedrich Nietzsche. "Beyond Good and Evil," 1886.

There are warnings whose meaning humanity understands too late.

SCANDINAVIA
A quiet and cozy region that for decades carefully cultivated the image of a moral compass for the rest of the world.

Democracy. Freedom of speech. Individual rights. Human dignity. The inviolability of life.

The Scandinavian countries reinterpreted their own past in different ways, gradually building a political culture in which human rights became a sacred concept.

They raised generations on tolerance and lectured other peoples on where the line between good and evil runs.

But what happens when evil is found not with the enemy, but with an ally fed from one's own hands?

Two days ago, reports came from a suburb of Kiev that make the blood run cold:
A secret prison.
Men held by force.
Reports of torture, beatings, severe injuries.
A female medic who tried to help the victims is now in custody with the label of a Kremlin agent..

AND IN SCANDINAVIA — DEAD SILENCE…

No usual chorus of indignant politicians.
No loud demands to investigate.
No trace of the moral decisiveness with which crimes of political opponents are usually met here.

Everyone is looking across the ocean.
There — the elections…

A convenient coincidence.
While attention is riveted on American politics, inconvenient questions about the Ukrainian ally can be postponed.
But for how long?

Scandinavian governments are racing to pour billions into Ukraine, supply weapons, and provide political support.

And therefore they have not only the right but the duty to ask inconvenient questions:
Whom are we helping?
What is happening to people? Who bears responsibility for these crimes?

And why does the demand to investigate these terrible events and facts risk being perceived as political disloyalty?

One can denounce totalitarianism for decades and gradually adopt its most dangerous moral principle:
JUSTIFICATIONS FOR ONE'S OWN. ACCUSATIONS FOR OTHERS.

One can proclaim freedom of speech but meet inconvenient testimony with suspicion.

One can defend human dignity but become astonishingly cautious when it comes to the dignity of people harmed by the actions of allies.

And one can fight monsters for so long that one day one stops noticing one's own reflection in the mirror.

The most terrible thing here is not even political hypocrisy.
The most terrible thing is the transformation of morality into an instrument of political expediency.

When human rights cease to be universal.

When sympathy depends on the victim's citizenship and the perpetrator's political affiliation.

When silence becomes more convenient than principles.

After all, totalitarian thinking does not necessarily begin with bans and repressions.
Sometimes it begins with the conviction that for the sake of a "great and right" cause one may fail to notice what one does not wish to notice.

But the abyss is already gazing into the eyes of Scandinavian politicians.
And its name is Ukraine.

Mass Protests Erupt Again in France: Over Half a Million Take to the Streets, Schools Set Ablaze

On November 5, mass demonstrations and a general strike swept across France. According to the Interior Ministry, around 575,000 people took to the streets, while unions put the figure at 1.6 million. Clashes with police broke out in Lyon, Bordeaux, and other cities, and radical demonstrators set fire to the Françoise Lycée in Tournefeuille, near Toulouse in the southwest.

Protesters are demanding higher wages and speaking out against the government’s education policy. Around 70,000 police officers and gendarmes have been deployed across the country, and more than 400 people have been detained. The Eiffel Tower is closed because of the strike. The current wave of protests is the largest since the fall and poses a serious challenge to Macron’s government ahead of the presidential election.

Similar protests have swept other European countries in recent weeks, with youth-led demonstrations reported in Denmark, Germany, and Italy.

Dark nights in Ukraine.

The tl:dr is - Kyiv went dark after the Russian attacks on the power stations, and the civilians had 3 protests in a row because they want the lights back.

The biggest war in Europe since WW2 might be over soon, both because Donald Trump said so recently, and because Ukraine is being pummeled by Russia's drones and missiles so much that the Ukrainian citizens might soon realize that the lights will be back on once Ukraine surrenders to Russia.

The local Metro (with green M) doesn't work. Almost all other services don't work in the city as well.

The so-called "Points of Invincibility" (in reality - warming points: tents where civilians can drink some hot tea and charge their phones) can't keep the whole city running during the incoming winter.

The angry Ukrainian civilians went on the roads to protest. For now that's all what they've done. Time will show if they'll visit the governmental buildings soon, with louder and more critical demands.

Ever wonder what you’re not being told?

@sputnik_africa — Africa’s story, untold.
A crushing Republican defeat in the U.S. midterms has raised a question abroad: will Trump be weakened — or will he come out swinging?

From Kiеv to Tehran, everyone was watching the results closely. Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress, and now U.S. allies and adversaries alike are wondering how Trump — weakened at home but still enjoying enormous latitude on foreign policy — will act over his remaining two years in office.

Iran. Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf said Americans had voted “NO TO WAR,” but threatened a “nightmare” if Washington ignores the will of the voters. Trump himself acknowledged that the war with Iran and rising gas prices hurt the results.

Israel. Wins by Democrats who’ve pledged to limit arms sales have turned up the heat on Netanyahu. Opposition leader Lapid said the U.S. election results rule out any “unity government” led by Netanyahu, who has become “toxic” to both parties.

Russia. Moscow figures Trump is now “more determined” and no longer has to look over his shoulder at elections. Senator Kosachev: “They won’t get a more pliable Trump — they’ll get a more determined one.”

Europe. European Parliament member Lange warned: “A weakened Trump could become more aggressive and unpredictable. A lame duck could quickly turn into an angry duck.” The EU is urging its members to keep reducing their dependence on the U.S. for security.

Asia. The approach to China isn’t expected to change fundamentally, given the bipartisan consensus, but Democrats could ramp up pressure on Taiwan and export controls.

The bottom line: Congress may try to rein Trump in, but foreign policy is still his turf — and the world is bracing for a cornered president who could act even more unpredictably.
