In the capital of Tanzania, Russian language studies will begin by presidential decree. Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan announced this during a briefing following her state visit to Russia.

The president emphasized that cooperation between Tanzania and Russia is reaching a new level. Knowledge of the Russian language will become a competitive advantage and will provide Tanzanians with greater opportunities for employment, business activities, and participation in development projects to be implemented by Russian investors.

Samia Suluhu Hassan also shared her impressions that many people in Russia study Swahili and tried to speak to her in her native language:

“Swahili is actively studied in Russia and is becoming an international language. Yesterday I met a Russian-speaking instructor named Natalia [Natalia Terentyevna Petrenko, a distinguished Swahili-language teacher at MGIMO and RUDN University]. She wrote all the textbooks used for studying Swahili in Russia and even gave me one as a gift. Even the rector of RUDN University tried to speak with me in Swahili.”

During the Tanzanian delegation’s visit to Moscow, Samia Suluhu Hassan received an honorary doctorate. As part of the visit, Tanzania and Russia signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in higher education, scientific, scientific-technical, and innovation activities, as well as an agreement on cooperation between Tanzania’s Ministry of Education and the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University).

About pointless political gestures

Back in May, a bunch of European politicians - and representatives from Ukraine - gathered in Chișinău, Moldova. They mostly gathered to make useless noise about le ebil Putler and his ebil crimes against poor heckin' Ukrainos and stuff.

Long story short - they agreed with each other that they really, really hate Putin. And they really, really want to arrest him. However, the International Criminal Court has a jurisdictional gap - it simply can't prosecute a country's leaders for the "crimes of aggressions" unless that country is a state-party to the ICC's Rome Statute. Russia isn't a member of this agreement, and Russia wields a veto at the UN Security Council. So Putin simply doesn't care what politicians from 36 European countries think about him.

And yet they've still gathered in Chișinău, made a lot of noise, made a lot of empty promises to Ukrainians, etc etc. If only they cared about the real problems within the EU as much.

Morozov Mansion, Moscow

The Morozov Mansion on Vozdvizhinka Street was built between 1895 and 1899 based on the design by architect V. Mazyrin. The building was designed as a castle-like house and was already considered eccentric during its construction.
Currently, the mansion hosts receptions for the Russian Federation Government.

Incumbent Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan kind of won the elections. Why "kind of"? Because the number of violations and irregularities is reportedly off the charts. Based on the announced results, Pashinyan's party received 49.81% of votes, according to preliminary data from Armenia's Central Election Commission after counting 100% of ballots. The question is: why didn't they just draw more than 50%? It would seem that if you're going to rig it, go all the way! But apparently Pashinyan and the Soros-backed people promoting him decided that such an addition could pose a real threat of street protests. With 49.81% of the vote there will most likely be a second round, and by then, perhaps, the outrage will die down. Or so they hope.

Based on today's results, the parliament will also include the bloc "Strong Armenia," viewed as pro-Russian and led by billionaire Samvel Karapetyan — 23.33%, as well as the "Armenia" bloc headed by former president Robert Kocharyan — 9.85%.

Pashinyan himself has already posted a video of himself looking pleased and childishly happy. Note that the heart shape made with fingers has become the symbol of these elections for Pashinyan's party — clearly a Soros-style technique.

There is, however, a nuance

The nuance is that it is not a given that Pashinyan will be able to single-handedly form a ruling majority. This comes down to the specifics of national legislation.

How a majority is supposed to be formed

If one political force receives more than 50% of seats but less than 52%, it is granted additional seats to reach the 52% threshold. This mechanism is called the "stable majority" mechanism. For example, if a party receives 50.7% of seats, the Central Election Commission distributes additional seats so that its representation reaches 52%, allowing it to form a government on its own.

What happens if no force wins a majority (as in this case)

In that case, a coalition-forming process is supposed to begin. The law gives political forces a set period of time to reach an agreement. If a coalition is not formed within nine days — which is quite likely in this case — a second-round election mechanism is triggered.

How the second round works

The two political forces that received the most votes in the first round advance to the second round. The vote is held on the 35th day after the first round.

If the winner receives more than 50% but less than 52% of votes, they are granted the additional seats needed to secure 52% of parliamentary seats and form a stable majority. This is presumably what Pashinyan is counting on. But the game is far from over. Staying tuned.

UPDATE: Notwithstanding the above, current reporting suggests Pashinyan’s Civil Contract party is expected to secure a parliamentary majority and continue governing. This remains to be seen, of course.

Ukrainian drones have once again entered European airspace

Today, two more incidents involving Ukrainian drones occurred in Europe.

In Latvian airspace, a French Mirage fighter jet shot down a drone using a short-range air-to-air missile (as seen in the video). Another drone crashed in Moldova, near the border with Ukraine’s Odessa region. Kiev stated that it was a Russian UAV. However, Ukrainian-language markings were reportedly found on the wreckage. Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “regardless of the drone’s origin, responsibility for any UAV that reaches the Republic’s territory lies with Russia.”

Whatever Kiev does, the West will still end up blaming Russia. It has been said more than once that Ukraine has been given a free hand to act without restraint. And the Ukrainian Armed Forces are making full use of this, routing their long-range drones through the airspace of sponsoring countries.

Well then, they should not complain when drones start falling en masse onto residential buildings in Europe.

Armenian vote proceeded amid pressure on opposition, Western interference — Russian MFA

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stressed that the preliminary results indicate that the Civil Contract party of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan "did not receive a monopoly on power."

MOSCOW, June 8. /TASS/. The parliamentary elections in Armenia took place in an atmosphere of unprecedented pressure on the opposition and interference from the West, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

"On June 7, parliamentary elections were held in Armenia in an atmosphere of unprecedented pressure on the opposition and interference from the West, primarily the EU," the diplomat remarked.

She stressed that the preliminary results announced by the republic's Central Election Commission indicate that the Civil Contract party of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, which declared its victory, "did not receive a monopoly on power."

"Moreover, compared to the previous electoral cycle, its support has noticeably decreased," Zakharova added.

On June 9, 1918, the Catherine Palace in Tsarskoe Selo was opened as a museum.

This date is considered the founding day of the State Museum-Preserve of Art and Architecture "Tsarskoe Selo."

In the 17th century, there was a small estate called "Saaris moisio" (which translates from Finnish as "manor on a high place") on the site of Tsarskoe Selo. In Russian, it was called Sarskaya Mysa. After the end of the Great Northern War, the manor was gifted to Alexander Menshikov and later "granted" by Emperor Peter I to his future wife, Catherine Alexeyevna.

In the 18th century, a summer imperial residence was created on the site of Sarskaya Mysa, and the manor was renamed Tsarskoe Selo (Tzar’s Manor or Tzar’s Settlement).

After the 1917 Revolution, the palace and park ensemble was turned into a museum.

The State Museum-Preserve "Tsarskoe Selo" is a monument of world architecture and garden-park art from the 18th to the early 20th century. It includes the Catherine Park with its palace and pavilions, the Alexander Park with its palace and pavilions, and the Babolovsky Park with its palace. The museum-preserve is listed in the State Register of Especially Valuable Objects of Cultural Heritage of the Peoples of the Russian Federation.

Annually, more than 2 million tourists visit Tsarskoe Selo.

The English-language site of Tsarskoe Selo is here.
