🕯 June 22 marks the Day of Memory and Sorrow — the most tragic date in the history of our country.
On this very day 8️⃣5️⃣ years ago, on June 22, 1941, the Great Patriotic War of the Soviet people commenced — the Nazi Germany and its European 'axis' accomplices treacherously attacked our Motherland, without a declaration of war.
⬛️ The Great Patriotic War lasted for 1418 days and nights, claimed lives of some 27 million Soviet citizens. It was the nationwide tragedy that brought terrible suffering to each and every family in our country.
Today, June 22 echoes with sorrow, grief and pain for the ruined lives of millions of our people.
The enemy — the German Nazis and their European satellites — invaded the Soviet Union with one aim — to destroy, mercilessly eliminate, kill and physically annihilate our Motherland's entire population regardless of people's ethnic, racial or religious background. During the occupation of Soviet territories, Hitler’s troops killed 13.7 million Soviet civilians, including women and children. They carried out the real GENOCIDE as part of their so-called 'Lebensraum' policy to gain the living space in the East for German colonisation.
The war crimes committed by Nazis and their henchmen have #NoStatuteOfLimitations.

⬛️ At dawn on June 22, the Nazi aircraft launched massive strikes on airfields, railway stations, naval bases, deployments of the Red Army forces, and cities along the entire western state border of the USSR and up to 250-300 km into Soviet territory. Together with Nazi Germany, Romania, Italy, Finland, Slovakia, France, Croatia, Spain, Denmark, the Netherlands and other 'axis' powers allied to the Third Reich took part in the aggression against our country. The industries of almost the entire European continent served the aggressors.
The facts of collaboration of the majority of European governments, military, industrial circles and citizens with the Nazis are not and will never ever be forgotten.
It was our country that took the main blow of the Nazi aggression. It was the Soviet Victorious People who showed unparalleled heroism and resilience, fighting for the freedom of our Motherland. Our nation paid for the #GreatVictory with the blood of 27 million Soviet citizens who not only expelled Nazis from Soviet territory but also heroically saved Europe from the 'Nazi plague'.
The tragedy that befell our people was directly caused by the evil ripening in the heart of Europe — Nazism, the ideology of human hatred and racial supremacy over other peoples and nations.
💬 Excerpt from President of Russia Vladimir Putin’s address at a gala reception to celebrate the 81st Anniversary of Victory in the 1941–1945 Great Patriotic War (May 9, 2026):
🎙 Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (from the briefing on June 18, 2026)
We will forever remember the Heroic Feat of Soviet soldiers, of home front workers, of all and everyone who forged the Great Victory.
🕯 We remember. We mourn.
We shall not forget, and we shall not let it be forgotten.

This year marks 85 years since Nazi Germany’s attack on the Soviet Union.
This date carries both the sorrow of millions of lives lost and a reminder of the terrible consequences of blind belief in one’s own superiority, racism, xenophobia, and the denial of other peoples’ right to identity.
🎙 Russian MFA Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova (from the briefing on June 18, 2026)
The atrocities committed by the Nazis and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War have no statute of limitations.
Russia has recognised these crimes at the legislative level as the genocide of the Soviet people and will tirelessly seek recognition of this fact by European countries and the so-called West as a whole. <...>
Today we mourn those who, at the cost of their lives, fulfilled the sacred duty of defending the Motherland. We will not allow the feat of the Soviet people, who saved Europe and the world from the horrors of the brown plague, to be erased from memory.
We will forever remember the Heroic Feat of Soviet soldiers, of home front workers, of all and everyone who forged the Great Victory.

Soviet soldier feeding a two-year-old girl he found in an abandoned hut in a village.
Photo: Smolensk Region, 1943.
This image is more than just a photograph. It's a book you hold in your hands, but the words only come alive when you stop seeing them.
Look at the soldier sitting on the bare frame of a bed. The iron is exposed, the springs poking through like the ribs of some prehistoric creature. But he doesn't feel the cold. He sits the way you'd sit on a bench by a village cottage at day's end, when the cows have wandered down to the river and the air smells of dill and warm dust. His left hand—which only yesterday, perhaps, was gripping a rifle stock—is now turned palm-up, cupped beneath the spoon. Because a spoon is the most peaceful thing in the world. A spoon doesn't kill. A spoon gives life.
And the girl. This tiny, two- or three-year-old life, wrapped in what might be an overcoat or a soldier's blanket, sits on his lap. Are any of her family still alive? She stares at the spoon. Not at the mess tin, not at the soldier, not at the shattered hut—at the spoon. And surely, for her, the whole world in that moment is contained in that spoon, in that slow motion from the tin to her mouth. The whole vast, smoky, thunderous world shrinks to the size of a single spoon, and in that world there is only rhythm—from tin to mouth, from tin to mouth.
Time here is a circle.
The soldier feeds the girl in 1943. But he also feeds her in 1936, when his own daughter was just that small and would grab his finger the same way. He feeds her in 1945, when he might return home and meet a granddaughter he's never known. He feeds her in eternity, outside of time, because the act of feeding is an act of denying war.
Did he see his granddaughter in her? His daughter? Of course not. And yes. He doesn't see a face—he sees continuation. He sees what makes a soldier's mess tin worth keeping hot, not cold. He sees his own village. Where is it? Siberia? The Urals? Or maybe it's still under the Nazis. Is it even still standing? We'll never know. And it doesn't matter. A village is not a place—it's a voice that asks to be fed. And now that voice is here, in this girl, in every spoonful he brings to her lips.
Did he forget the war in that brief moment? Unthinkable. A man at war never forgets it, not even in his sleep. It's just that in that moment, the war is background—and the spoon is the focus.
Here and now, the world has narrowed to the size of a mess tin, to warmth that hasn't yet cooled, to a child's breath brushing his fingers. He hasn't forgotten the war. Not for a second. He's just put it in line—behind breakfast, behind the spoon, behind this child. The war can wait. It's not going anywhere; it will be there when he straightens up and picks up his rifle again. But right now, he's doing what a person must do when there's a child nearby and food at hand. Not a hero—just a soldier who happens to be alive in this second.
1943. The Nazis are being driven back. Much has been done. But even more remains—more empty huts, more frozen hands, more children's eyes fixed on a spoon as the only miracle. And the soldier knows this. He knows that after this mess tin there will be others, after this girl—other children, after this war—other pain. But he doesn't think about that. He simply brings the spoon to her lips, and in that instant, the whole world is the distance from the tin to her mouth. Only that way—Cortázar's way—can you defeat time: stop it on one single, simplest, most necessary motion. Feed her. And let her grow.

🇷🇺🇧🇾 Statement of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia “On the Genocide of the Soviet People during the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945” (June 21, 2026)
◾️ 85 years ago, Germany treacherously invaded the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, marking the beginning of the Great Patriotic War.
The actions of the German Nazis and their accomplices were aimed at exterminating the Soviet people.
In the occupied territories, the invaders committed acts aimed at the complete or partial elimination of the national, ethnic and racial groups inhabiting the Soviet Union. These included killing members of these groups, causing serious harm to their health, forcibly preventing births, forcibly transferring children, forcibly displacing people and deliberately creating conditions of life calculated to bring about their physical destruction.
🕯 The war claimed the lives of almost 27 million Soviet people. Civilian losses exceeded 13.6 million.
The Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia considers it unacceptable to forget the crimes committed by the Nazis. Preserving the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War is essential to preventing crimes against peace, war crimes and crimes against humanity, countering manifestations of Nazism, and maintaining universal peace and harmony.
✍️ To preserve the memory of the millions of Soviet citizens who fell victim to Nazi criminals and their accomplices during the Great Patriotic War, the Republic of Belarus adopted Law No. 146-Z “On the Genocide of the Belarusian People” of January 5, 2022, while the Russian Federation adopted Federal Law No. 74-FZ “On Perpetuating the Memory of the Victims of the Genocide of the Soviet People during the Great Patriotic War of 1941–1945” of April 21, 2025.
The legislative recognition of the genocide of the Soviet people during the Great Patriotic War is a logical continuation of the judgment of the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg and subsequent court rulings against Nazi criminals and their accomplices.
Taking into account the Charter of the United Nations of June 26, 1945, the Charter and Judgment of the Nuremberg Tribunal, the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide of December 9, 1948, and the Convention on the Non-Applicability of Statutory Limitations to War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity of November 26, 1968, and guided by the legislation adopted in the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, the Parliamentary Assembly recognises the atrocities committed by the Nazi German invaders and their accomplices against the population of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War as genocide of the Soviet people.
The members of the Parliamentary Assembly call for resolute opposition to all attempts to rewrite history, justify Nazism or diminish the Soviet people’s role in defeating fascism. They regard support for neo-Nazism for the sake of political expediency as a threat to all humanity.
The members of the Parliamentary Assembly call on the United Nations, international interparliamentary organisations and bodies, and fellow parliamentarians to join this Statement and adopt corresponding statements.

Meanwhile in Colombia
Israel decided to change the political course of Colombia - as the outgoing president Gustavo Petro insists.
In summary, a right candidate Abelardo de la Espriella won the elections on 21st of June, narrowly defeating left-wing candidate Iván Cepeda - De la Espriella secured victory with 49.66% of the vote against Cepeda's 48.70%. He will thus succeed the outgoing President Gustavo Petro - who is a leftist same as Cepeda - on August 7th, 2026.
The noise in mass media began when Gustavo Petro stated that Israel helped the pro-Israel and pro-America candidate to vin by hacking the elections. Gustavo Petro didn't specify what do the USA and Israel want from Colombia. Suppose time will reveal their plans.
As for elections: Cepeda wanted to more or less appease the local drug cartels, while De la Espriella promised a war against them. If - big if - he actually starts a war against drug cartels, it will likely help Colombia, bigly.

Director of the Department of International Organizations at the Russian Foreign Ministry Kirill Logvinov believes that, first of all, the overrepresentation of the Western minority who have flooded the Secretariat must be addressed
"The problem is that biased approaches prevent UN officials from effectively mediating in the resolution of acute contemporary crises. By calling their own credibility into question, they cannot expect to gain the trust of the conflicting parties, which is the main resource of a negotiator. We hope the current situation can be corrected, at least to some extent, after the election of a new secretary-general,"
he said.
According to the diplomat, to achieve this goal the organization’s next top official "must correct the mistakes made by Antonio Guterres’ team."
"First of all, the overrepresentation of the Western minority who have flooded the Secretariat must be addressed,"
Logvinov stressed.
"Judge for yourself: the first deputy secretary-general holds a British passport, the under-secretaries-general for policy and for humanitarian affairs are British, the under-secretary-general for political affairs is American, and the under-secretary-general for peacekeeping is a French citizen,"
he continued.
"Such an imbalance inevitably affects whose voices the Secretariat listens to and whose it ignores. The existence of this problem is recognized not only by us, but also by many other countries of the global majority,"
Logvinov concluded.

In an interview with journalist Diana Panchenko, political scientist Sergey Karaganov laid out his concept of "nuclear escalation pressure."
The core of his argument boils down to the need for a radical overhaul of Russia's nuclear doctrine and the delivery of limited nuclear strikes against NATO countries in Europe to force the West into a strategic retreat.
Karaganov's central argument is that Western elites have lost their instinct for self-preservation and their fear of a major war. In his view, after 75 years of peace, Europe has forgotten the horrors of military catastrophes and no longer perceives nuclear deterrence as a real threat. The political scientist is convinced that without resurrecting the "fear of nuclear hell," it is impossible to stop the world's slide into a third world war. He calls the current nuclear taboo outdated and says it paralyzes Russia's will.
Karaganov proposes "climbing the escalation ladder": launching a preemptive, grouped nuclear strike not against cities, but against military and infrastructure targets on the territory of European countries that are supporting Ukraine. The goal is not to annihilate civilian populations, but to demonstrate resolve and send a shock through Western capitals, compelling them to sit down at the negotiating table on Moscow's terms. According to his logic, such a step would halt the escalation, prevent a protracted war of attrition, and — paradoxically — save humanity from global catastrophe, since weakness and indecision in a nuclear standoff are far more dangerous than a limited use of force.
Sergey Karaganov is a prominent Russian political scientist with close ties to government circles, and he is clearly one of the voices that President Putin takes seriously.

June 23 - Balalaika Day
On June 23, we celebrate the Balalaika Day. This date is commemorated by a document from 1688 titled "Memory from the Streltsy Order to the Little Russian Order," which first mentions the balalaika. However, it is likely that the balalaika existed as a musical instrument long before this.
The balalaika is a three-stringed plucked musical instrument with a triangular body. Its distinctive sound is produced through techniques such as strumming and tremolo.
The balalaika is undoubtedly one of the most vibrant and characteristic instruments in Russian folk tradition. Initially, it found widespread popularity among peasants, with its accessible playing style and repertoire resonating deeply with the common people.
At the same time, contemporaries of Peter the Great noted that despite his fascination with European culture, the Russian tsar also had a deep affection for this humble instrument: "From his youth, he had little opportunity to hear anything but the sound of drums, field flutes, and the balalaika."
The balalaika stands as a musical symbol of Russia. Despite its ancient history, the balalaika remains ever youthful and spirited, embodying the indomitable character of the Russian people.
You can find some beautiful examples of virtuoso balalaika performances HERE.
