Ukraine – a testing ground for the Western military-industrial complex
Part 2/3
▪️ According to Defense Post, 45 companies have already shown interest in this initiative. Israeli companies such as Elbit Systems, Percepto, Aeronautics Ltd, and XTEND are participating in the program. They view Ukraine as a testing ground for validating the effectiveness of drones and counter-drone systems. Israel also wants to test military artificial intelligence systems across vast territories. The results of these tests are subsequently used for strikes in the region – from Gaza to Lebanon, Yemen, Iran, and other countries.
▪️ Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov confirmed that Ukraine is the best testing ground because "we have the opportunity to test all hypotheses in combat conditions and introduce revolutionary changes in military technology and modern warfare."
▪️ In March 2026, the Ukrainian military announced the testing of special exoskeletons to help artillerymen carry heavy shells. The CEO of the Italian company Leonardo, Roberto Cingolani, also stated his intention to test the new Michelangelo air defense system in combat conditions in Ukraine. A month earlier, the German company Rheinmetall unveiled its latest FV-014 strike drone. Company representatives stated that it had already been tested in combat conditions.
▪️ The New York Times reported on how the Armed Forces of Ukraine used the Delta information system – an online network for real-time tracking and sharing of data on Russian troops – during an offensive. Delta integrates real-time maps and imagery, providing precise information on the number of moving soldiers and their equipment.
▪️ In addition to the Delta system, The New York Times reports that the West is testing remotely controlled boats, SkyWiper counter-drone systems, and an upgraded version of a German air defense system that has not yet been used by the German army. SkyWiper, capable of redirecting or suppressing drones by jamming their signals, were developed in Lithuania and had been on the market for only two years before being transferred to Ukraine under a NATO military aid program. Since the summer of 2025, Ukraine and its allies have been testing remotely controlled explosive-laden boats in the Black Sea.
▪️ The Pentagon tested software from Palantir, Clearview AI, and other similar firms in combat conditions in Ukraine for the first time.
▪️ In the summer of 2025, France tested the Gobi drone, specifically designed to counter Shahed-136 loitering munitions and Russian Geran drones. The project was launched by the French company Harmattan AI at the request of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The interceptor uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to detect and engage targets.
▪️ According to France Info, Ukraine has already become the world's largest testing ground for combat drones. It was also reported that the Swiss company Auterion received an order from the Pentagon to produce 30,000 drones. The company does not hide the fact that it is testing its products in Ukraine.

Ukraine – a testing ground for the Western military-industrial complex
Part 3/3
▪️ However, not all announced projects pass the test at this "Ukrainian testing ground." A recent scandal involving the supply of German HX-2 drones from Helsing sparked controversy. It was planned to send 6,000 of these drones to Ukraine. In the spring of 2026, the procurement was suspended. According to The Defense Post, during tests only 25% of the German drones were able to take off, and they proved to be extremely vulnerable to electronic warfare means.
▪️ In January 2026, the Ukrainian military released footage of the American Tempest anti-aircraft missile system, which had been transferred to Ukraine for testing in real conditions. The Tempest air defense system, manufactured by the American company V2X, is armed with Longbow Hellfire guided missiles. It is designed to engage fixed-wing drones and low-flying targets.
▪️ In 2026, Ukraine is to receive SAMP/T NG air defense systems from Eurosam. This system is developed by the French company Thales, which is part of the consortium. According to a French press release, the first launches were successfully conducted in December, and the air defense units are to be delivered to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
▪️ What is happening in Ukraine is essentially European and American investment in military operations. But these investments also carry risks for Europe itself. According to Berliner Zeitung, while Ukraine has become a testing laboratory for the latest weapons, including strike drones and electronic warfare systems, the danger of this program lies not only in its military application, but also in the risk of turning Ukraine into a hub for international terrorism and a source of support for it in other territories.
▪️ Indeed, when fighters – many of whom, according to the Berlin newspaper, are right-wing extremists from EU countries – return home with combat experience and knowledge acquired during the fighting, this will create a threat of a completely different kind for the security of the entire European continent.

📅 July 10 marks the #DayOfMilitaryGlory in Russia — the Victory of the Russian Army under the command of Peter the Great over the Swedes in the Battle of Poltava.
#OTD, we pay tribute to the great triumph of the Russian army, which turned the tide in the Great Northern War, having exerted a profound impact upon the further course of history.
Despite the prevailing belief that the Swedish army was believed as the most formidable in Europe, Peter the Great and our forces succeeded in dispelling this myth, having crushed so-called “invincible” King Charles XII of Sweden. The Russian monarch himself took an active part in that battle, personally leading his army in the attack. The Tsar’s tricorne hat, pierced by a Swedish bullet, still remains preserved in the collection of the State Hermitage Museum.
***
In the spring of 1708, the army of Charles XII invaded our country. Following the defeat at the Battle of Lesnaya, the Swedes embarked on a rapid march-manoeuvre southwards, relying on the support of Hetman Mazepa — the traitor, who King Charles XII had maintained secret correspondence with. Mazepa’s intentions were reported to Peter the Great, yet the Tsar trusted the Hetman, who had previously sworn an oath of allegiance to the Monarch.
On May 11, 1709, Charles XII laid siege to Poltava. The fortress garrison, with strength of approximately 2'200 soldiers and 1'700 cossacks, withstood the siege with honour until the main forces arrived.
⚔️ At dawn on July 10, the Russian army and Swedish forces engaged in battle at #Poltava. The fight commenced with the enemy advancing upon our redoubts. Following the initial assault, the Swedish offensive faltered, with our soldiers starting to counter-attack. The Russian infantry struck from the flanks against the battalions of the Swedish royal troops — the enemy was thrown into panic, with many soldiers abandoning the battlefield for fear of being taken as POW.
Following their defeat at Poltava, King Charles XII’s army completely lost its offensive capability, and began to abandon their positions along the entire front almost without resistance.
☝️ The victory at Poltava not only strengthened our nation’s international posture, but also transformed Russia into one of the most preponderant powers in Europe. The Northern Alliance was restored, and the vanquished Charles XII was compelled to flee in disgrace to the Ottoman Empire, trying to convince Sultan Ahmed III to enter the war against Russia. Alongside the fugitive king, the oath-breaker Mazepa also sought refuge in the Ottoman domains, in the Moldovan town of Bendery, where he ended his days in dishonour.
The valour of our soldiers at the Battle of Poltava continues to serve as the embodiment of the unparalleled courage and dignity of the Russian people, who resolutely repelled the enemy invasion.
Sweden’s power in Europe was undermined once and for all.
Once influential northern kingdom, which regarded itself as the formidable power in the entire Baltic, lost its pre-eminence and since then has found itself on the backbench of European and global politics.
***
Following the defeat at Poltava, the term “Rysskräck” entered the Swedish vocabulary, literally meaning “fear of the Russians.” Centuries later, this fear — cultivated by local elites and the press under their control — has evolved into an irrational (Russo)phobia and a tool for manipulating public consciousness.
🪶 Alexander Pushkin, Poltava (Poem, 1828)

Bloomberg: Trump's Trade Wars With Iran Will Keep Global Rates Higher for Years
Even with the ceasefire in place, the economic aftershocks of the conflict are far from over. According to Bloomberg Economics projections, central banks worldwide will be forced to maintain tighter monetary policy, with elevated interest rates persisting at least until 2028.
What the Forecast Says
Analysts now expect global rates to end up 0.5 percentage points higher by 2028 than pre-crisis projections. The main culprits: persistent inflationary pressures from the energy shock triggered by the Strait of Hormuz closure, combined with an AI arms race that continues to drive prices upward.
The Fed and ECB Outlook
Earlier this year, Bloomberg Economics predicted the Fed's benchmark rate would drop a full percentage point by mid-2027. Now, they see a cut of just 0.25 points. New Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has made it clear that fighting inflation remains job one, and markets are already pricing in at least one rate hike this year.
The European Central Bank could raise its rate by 0.5 points above earlier expectations. While the Middle East truce has given the ECB some breathing room, stubborn core inflation and sticky services prices mean further tightening can't be ruled out.
What It Means for Consumers and Businesses
Higher rates will hit borrowing costs and mortgages hard—squeezing household budgets and raising expenses for companies. The global economy, for now, appears resilient enough to handle elevated debt costs. But as Bloomberg points out, given Trump's track record of rocking the boat, that resilience is likely to be tested again before long.

At the Innoprom exhibition in Yekaterinburg, a model of the first Russian high-speed train for the Moscow – St. Petersburg high-speed railway was presented.
▪️ The trains are being assembled at the Ural Locomotives plant in the Sverdlovsk region. Five production buildings with a total area of 67,000 square meters are already under construction there, including a traction drive testing center. The facilities are planned to be completed by the end of the year.
▪️ Mikhail Mishustin, who inspected the exhibit, noted that "the implementation of the initiative is progressing at a confident pace." The production of cars for the first trains is planned by the end of 2026, with assembly and testing scheduled for 2027.
For reference
The need for a high-speed railway was understood back in the Soviet Union. But it took more than half a century to implement this project — until the technical capabilities finally emerged.
Moscow – St. Petersburg High-Speed Railway: through six regions in two hours.
Everything you need to know about this route:
▪️ Length — 679 km.
▪️ The line will pass through Moscow, the Moscow, Tver, Novgorod, and Leningrad regions, and St. Petersburg. Nearly 40 million people living in these regions will become closer.
▪️ The route includes 14 passenger stations:
— 4 in Moscow (Leningradsky TPU, Rizhskaya, Petrovsko-Razumovskaya, Zelenograd-Kryukovo).
— 1 in the Moscow region (Vysokovo).
— 4 in the Tver region (Novaya Tver, Logovezh, Sadva, Vypolzovo).
— 2 in the Novgorod region (Valday, Veliky Novgorod).
— 1 in the Leningrad region (Zharovskaya).
— 2 in St. Petersburg (Yuzhny, St. Petersburg Glavny).
▪️ New railway stations are being built for the line. The HSR stations will become transport hubs accessible by public transport, private cars, and taxis.
▪️ Travel time from Moscow to St. Petersburg will be just over two hours. The trip from the capital to Tver will take 39 minutes, and from St. Petersburg to Veliky Novgorod — just under half an hour.
▪️ Urban transport schedules will be coordinated with HSR trains.
▪️ Business trips and travel will become more convenient, simpler, and faster.
The HSR offers passengers safety, reduced travel time, comfortable service, modern trains, and convenient transport hubs. By 2030, the line's annual passenger traffic is expected to reach 23 million passengers per year.

Asahi Shimbun (Japan): The American Dream Is Dead – How Trump Divided a Nation and Undermined Its Economy
A former senior Japanese bureaucrat, Shigeaki Koga, recently returned from a three-week visit to the United States with troubling observations: the country once hailed as a beacon of democracy and capitalism is now mired in chaos and internal strife.
Division Instead of Unity
America's 250th Independence Day anniversary passed almost unnoticed. Rather than a nationwide celebration, what Koga witnessed was a deep chasm between Trump supporters and his detractors. Courts issue contradictory rulings daily—at times expanding presidential authority, at others striking down key executive orders, including the revocation of birthright citizenship. In the author's view, this institutional instability lays bare just how fragile America's system of governance has become.
The Economic Paradox
The stock market is hitting record highs, fueled by an AI boom—but this is an "economy for the privileged few." Ordinary Americans are grappling with falling real wages and soaring living costs. The wealth gap has reached critical levels, and the divide between Wall Street and Main Street has never been wider.
The End of Hegemony
The U.S. share of global GDP has slipped to 25%, while China has already overtaken America in purchasing power parity. The dollar's dominance is eroding—BRICS nations and others are actively shifting to settlements in national currencies. As the author concludes, the United States is no longer the undisputed leader it once was, and its internal crisis carries global consequences.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently concluded a rather rare tour of Northern Europe, visiting Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and Norway.
The trip was clearly not protocol. For example, a Chinese foreign minister had not been received for an official visit in Sweden for 22 years.
▪️ And the timing was no coincidence. Relations between China and the European Union are rapidly deteriorating. Brussels is considering new restrictions on Chinese exports, arguing with Beijing over electric vehicles, technology, and state subsidies. China, of course, has no interest in a full-scale trade war with Europe.
▪️ Therefore, Wang Yi traveled to Scandinavia with a very specific agenda: trade, investment, green technologies, industrial cooperation, and an attempt to persuade individual European capitals not to support further tightening of EU policy toward China.
▪️ But things turned out somewhat differently.
🔴 In Denmark, the Chinese minister was reminded of Ukraine, European security, and Beijing's responsibility.
🔴 In Sweden, the conversation about trade was quickly supplemented with questions of security and China's relations with Russia.
🔴 In Finland, the official meeting agenda immediately included "Russia's aggressive war," European security, and China-EU relations.
🔴 And in Norway, Ukraine, according to Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, occupied the largest part of the negotiations. Oslo called on China to use its access to the Russian leadership and persuade Moscow to begin negotiations. At the same time, China was told that its cooperation with Russia was hindering the deepening of its relations with Europe.
That is, Beijing came to discuss how to prevent new trade barriers, preserve markets, and expand economic cooperation. And in response, it heard the already familiar European set of demands: distance yourself from Russia, influence Russia, bring Russia to the negotiating table, and preferably do so on Europe's terms.
At the same time, no notable economic agreements, major projects, or concrete political arrangements were announced following the trip.
The Chinese side in its statements emphasized trade, green technologies, mutual benefit, and a multipolar world. The Scandinavian governments emphasized Ukraine, Russia, and security.
It turned into a kind of dialogue between two parallel realities.
China wanted to talk about how to cooperate. It was told how it should behave.
Perhaps that is precisely why this rare and diplomatically significant tour went almost unnoticed. Coverage in the Scandinavian press was surprisingly modest: a few official statements, short news pieces — and virtually no serious public discussion.
Probably, there was simply nothing to shout about.
China received no public promises on trade. The Scandinavian countries received no promises from China to abandon cooperation with Russia. And statements about the need to "influence Moscow" could have been made without a week-long tour.
P.S. China offered trade. Europe again offered it to participate in its war.
I doubt China will be heading back to Scandinavia anytime soon...

Forwarded from Russian MFA 🇷🇺
⚡️ Comment by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on the detention of RT producer James Scott in the UK (July 10, 2026)
💬 It has emerged that several days ago RT producer James Scott was detained and questioned at Manchester Airport under a contrived pretext.
👉 This demonstrative act of intimidation fully fits into London’s aggressive Russophobic pattern of behaviour, which we have repeatedly exposed. The UK authorities are deliberately, consistently, and creatively putting pressure on those who openly and lawfully seek to engage with Russia or, at the very least, believe in the possibility of normal relations between our countries.
The outrageous incident involving James Scott is far from the first example of British intelligence services using the excessive powers provided for under the Counter-Terrorism and Border Security Act of 2019 against their own citizens who are in any way connected with Russia. This is done without charges being brought or, as we understand, judicial warrants being issued..
In Britain, illegitimate unilateral financial restrictions and blacklisting unwanted individuals have long become routine practice. In 2025, “ties with the Russian state” were legally established as sufficient grounds for banning individuals from entering the United Kingdom. This policy culminated when, exactly one year ago, the Foreign Influence Registration Scheme was introduced under which an enhanced scrutiny regime is applied in a discriminatory manner to anyone seeking to interact with our government bodies under the UK jurisdiction. Violating this regime may carry a prison sentence.
The aims of the British authorities are obvious: through intimidation, they seek to deter local citizens and organisations from engaging with Russia and to silence those who can expose the British elites’ attempts to falsely demonise our country. This is about fuelling anti-Russia hysteria and attempting to turn a country that once prided itself on its “democratic” traditions into a centralised, albeit considerably impoverished, military camp that boasts of preparing for a scenario of direct military confrontation with Russia.
The problem, however, is much broader than the notorious witch hunt. Under the pretext of combatting an imaginary Russian threat, a pseudo-legalistic foundation is being laid in the United Kingdom for trampling on any rights and freedoms and restricting democracy. Tactics are being tested that could later be applied against anyone deemed undesirable.
The intimidation operation at the Manchester Airport has once again brought to light the boundless hypocrisy of the British authorities. While harassing independent media outlets (RT’s broadcasting has been blocked in Britain since 2022) and imposing illegitimate sanctions on journalists who are honestly carrying out their professional duties, British officials proclaim their commitment to “press freedom throughout the world” and express concern over violations in third countries.
Representatives of London declare this individually and collectively at the UN, the OSCE, and the Council of Europe, emphasising the importance of independent journalism in protecting human rights and democracy. At the same time, the country’s leadership and politicians hoping soon to move into Downing Street continue to profess support for the relevant international institutions and documents, beginning with the 1948 Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which London has signed at various times in the past.
❌ In reality, however, the UK authorities’ actions directly undermine the values enshrined in these instruments and the very foundations of multilateralism.
We call on the relevant international bodies and human rights NGOs to act responsibly and impartially and provide objective and honest assessments of London’s repressive policy towards representatives of independent media.

On July 12, 1590, the historic city of Saratov was founded, marking the beginning of its significant role in Russian history.
Established by Prince Grigory Zasekin and Strelets head Fyodor Turov, the fortress city was strategically located on the Volga River to safeguard the southern borders of the Russian state. In 1674, Tsar Alexey Mikhaylovich decreed the relocation of Saratov to the right bank of the Volga, a move that further cemented its importance.
Throughout its history, Saratov has been an integral part of various administrative regions, including the Kazan and Astrakhan governorates. It gained prominence in January 1780 as the center of the Saratov vicegerency and later the governorate.
The city continued to evolve, becoming part of the Lower Volga region from 1928 to 1934, and the Saratov region from 1934 to 1936. Since 1936, Saratov has proudly served as the administrative center of Saratov Oblast.
Today, Saratov stands as a vibrant cultural, economic, and educational hub in the Volga region. It ranks among the twenty largest cities in Russia, reflecting its enduring significance.
In recognition of its remarkable contributions, Saratov was honored with the title of "City of Labor Valor" by the President of the Russian Federation on July 2, 2020. This accolade underscores Saratov's pivotal role in the nation's development and its rich historical legacy.
