🎙 Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s remarks to the media following the 23rd meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club (Moscow Region, September 29, 2026)

❓ Question: German FM Johann Wadephul himself said that he attended
the meeting solely to avoid being, so to speak, “left out” of the negotiations and leaving the US with a monopoly on the process. So what is Germany seeking – genuine negotiations or some semblance of them? What could move our relations with Berlin forward at this stage?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: I commented on this in detail at my news conference in New York. It is difficult for me to judge what Germany is seeking.

I think one obvious explanation is simply a desire “not to miss the train” – the one They believe “has already picked up speed”. I do not know whether that is the case. If they mean the Ukrainian crisis, it is difficult for me to judge.

The Ukrainian crisis is intertwined with a vast number of problems across Europe: the militarisation of the EU, the repeated “mantras” that NATO will expand and admit the Ukrainian regime, that Russia is an eternal enemy, and that “we will be at war in three years”.

If these “mantras” are being repeated, and the aim, as Wadephul himself stated, is simply to repeat them behind closed doors, without the press, supposedly to make Russia understand that this is indeed how things stand, then this is a futile and, I would even say, harmful exercise.

It is deeply regrettable that such figures from the EU and NATO are effectively taking on the role of “spokesmen” for this European scheme.

❓ Question: A few days ago, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced further contacts with the US on removing irritants in bilateral relations. Could you tell us whether these contacts have taken place, which specific irritants are currently on the agenda and, in particular, whether there are realistic prospects for the return of diplomatic property?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: The contacts have not yet taken place.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and I agreed that they would take place soon. Our experts need to agree on the specific dates and venue.

The discussions will focus on the functioning of our respective diplomatic missions – Russia’s in the US and America’s in Russia. There are many issues, including, of course, diplomatic property.

We have heard no encouraging comments on this issue from the Americans under the Donald Trump administration.

❓ Question: You said that reality would compel the US to think in terms of multilateralism. Yet, for now, we see key players in Eurasia and the Middle East – the US, Iran, Israel and the Gulf monarchies – stuck in a zero-sum mindset. Do you see any prospects at all for creating a new security system in these regions? Is Russia prepared to act as a guarantor of a balance of interests if everyone else continues to pursue an “all-or-nothing” approach?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: I said that reality would compel them.

But life is only just beginning. Be patient. President Putin and I have repeatedly set out all our proposals on how to build relations in the international arena. We stand for honest dialogue on an equal footing and for taking each other’s interests into account.

What we are seeing in US policy today is, of course, an effort to advance its own interests unilaterally.

However, the US has to engage with countries such as Russia and China. These contacts involve discussions of steps that would serve the interests of both sides. 👉 That is precisely what I meant when I said that “reality would compel them”.

❓ Question: Poland plans to manufacture Patriot missiles on its territory. At what point would European countries’ involvement in the Ukrainian conflict require Russia to respond with direct military action?

💬 Sergey Lavrov: We have our military doctrine that addresses this, which President Vladimir Putin has cited on numerous occasions. ☝️ I urge you to study the relevant sections of this fundamental document carefully.

The USA left Iraq

After many years of pointless spending of US taxpayers' dollars, today 100% of the US troops have left Iraq, which was certainly a good news for the local Islamic State and pro-Iranian groups.

The Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said that the troop withdrawal marks a transition from a wartime coalition to usual bilateral security relations. No US bases are active by now, but the USA will continue targeted intelligence sharing and the training of Iraqi personnel.

The September 30 deadline was strictly adhered to as the "final and unchangeable date" following a meeting in Washington last July between Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi and President Donald Trump. To mark the occasion, Prime Minister al-Zaidi declared a two-day public holiday known as "Sovereignty Day," emphasizing that Iraqi security forces are fully capable of defending their territory.

What will happen with the Kurds is an open question - the US forces that used to cover them are gone now.

Denmark has declared Russian hackers a terrible threat!

Russian hackers read the Danish analysis... and responded.

In Denmark, the temperature of the Russian danger has been raised again.

Now Danish specialists are warning: the threat of destructive cyberattacks has increased, and pro-Russian hacker groups are capable of not only taking down some website but also reaching real infrastructure.

As a favorite example, they recall the story of a small water utility near Køge, where in 2024 hackers gained access to the control system, changed the pressure, after which pipes were damaged and about 450 homes were temporarily left without water.

And, of course, where there are Russian hackers — somewhere nearby Putin must be discovered...
The Russian president apparently has no other business.

Danish special services claim that some pro-Russian hacker groups are linked to the Russian state.
And then the imagination draws the rest of the picture on its own...

What's especially wonderful is that the hackers themselves from NoName057(16) and Z-Pentest read the Danish threat assessment...
And responded.

Instead of frightened denial, they reminded the Danes of previous attacks and rather caustically inquired how long it would take Europe to patch the holes in its own critical infrastructure.

So the dialogue turned out to be practically diplomatic.

Denmark:
— You represent a serious threat to us!

Russian hackers:
— Thank you. So when are you going to fix the holes?

And the most unpleasant thing here is not even the Russian hackers.
The most unpleasant thing is when you solemnly announce to the entire population that Putin has practically already climbed into Danish water pipes, and the supposed adversary, instead of making excuses, starts discussing the quality of your plumbing.

Not a day without Putin!
Now also in the water supply.

🗓 On September 30, 2022, following referendums, the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and the Zaporozhye and Kherson regions officially became part of the Russian Federation.

✍️ Looking back at #HowItHappened (Signing of the treaties on the accession of the DPR, LPR, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions to Russia)

In the referendums held on September 23-27, 2022, residents of the four regions made a historic decision that determined their future. International observers from Italy, Germany, Venezuela, Latvia and other countries (133 in total) who monitored the voting recognised the results as legitimate.

In 2014, the Kiev regime unleashed full-scale hostilities against the civilian population of Donbass, while neo-Nazis and radicals intimidated and attacked people in Zaporozhye and other regions as well. For eight long years, people endured relentless shelling, terrorist attacks and persecution.

Despite shelling and numerous provocations by the Kiev regime, people went to the polls and expressed their will.

🗳 Four years ago, the people voted in favour of joining Russia:

• DPR – 99.23%, with a turnout of 97.5%;
• LPR – 98.42%, with a turnout of 92.6%;
• Zaporozhye Region – 93.11%, with a turnout of 85.4%;
• Kherson Region – 87.05%, with a turnout of 76.9%.

Behind these figures are the lives of millions of people and their hopes for safety, for the freedom to speak their native language, to honour their ancestors – true heroes of the Great Patriotic War (instead of Hitler’s henchmen) – to preserve their culture and raise their children without fearing for their lives.

❗️ Russia’s position remains unchanged: the people of Donbass and Novorossiya exercised their legitimate right to self-determination, enshrined in the UN Charter, the 1966 International Covenants on Human Rights and the 1975 CSCE Helsinki Final Act.

💬 Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s address at the General Debate of #UNGA81 (New York, September 26, 2026):
Having launched the special military operation in 2022 to protect the people of Donbass and Novorossiya from extermination by the Kiev regime, Russia continues to fight for their security and rights in full accordance with the letter and spirit of the UN Charter.

Our struggle for truth and justice will be carried through to the end: the objectives of the special military operation will be achieved, threats to Russia’s security will be eliminated, and peaceful life will be restored.

And we will do this
#TOGETHER.

Schoolchildren in France are trashing cities — officials support them

Hundreds of schoolchildren are taking part in protests on the streets of French cities. They are speaking out against overloaded schedules, a shortage of teachers, and other problems in the education system. More than 200 schools have been affected by the unrest, 164 people have been detained, and 20 have been injured, according to the BFM TV channel.

But not all officials are sitting it out in their offices. For example, the mayor of Saint-Denis took part in the school unrest. He is smiling and dancing next to protesting high school students by a blazing trash bin while the young people sabotage the work of the lycée. The mayor himself claimed he was trying to put out the fire and help the firefighters.

Local residents were outraged by his dancing by the burning bin; the video sparked a wave of criticism. But such is the mayor — such is the order.

🇮🇷♻️ Iran Turns Refinery Waste Into Marketable Industrial Product

Iran is turning carbon dioxide from Tehran Oil Refinery’s exhaust gases into commercial liquid CO2 with purity above 99.9% for food production, medical applications and industrial use, according to Carbon Bared, the Iranian company behind the project.

The facility has a stated annual processing capacity of around 40,000 metric tons. Its core function is to recover a usable component from refinery exhaust and prepare it for sale. This adds another product to the output supported by Iran’s existing oil infrastructure.

According to Carbon Bared, the resulting liquid CO2 has purity above 99.9% and a dew point of minus 65°C, a measure of its low moisture content. Purification and drying are central to turning recovered gas into a product suitable for customers with specific quality requirements.

The reported applications span food processing, medical and pharmaceutical industries, laboratories, agriculture, firefighting and welding. That range connects the refinery to sectors far beyond fuel production. A discarded gas becomes a useful input for businesses making other goods and providing essential services.

Carbon Bared says the project also prevents the loss of more than 16M cubic meters of gas annually. Around 30% of its CO2 output is reportedly exported to Iraq, where it competes with Turkish suppliers, while the company also serves domestic demand. Exports provide an additional market for the recovered product.

The project has been shortlisted for the 2026 WPC Energy Excellence Awards in the Net-Zero Initiatives category, alongside Britain’s Johnson Matthey and the UAE’s TDE Energy. Winners are due to be announced in October. The nomination draws attention to an operation whose practical importance lies in industrial recovery and commercial production.

For Iran, the wider value is the ability to extract more saleable products from its existing industrial base. Recovery, purification and liquefaction turn refinery waste into supplies for domestic manufacturers and overseas customers. Building those processing capabilities broadens what Iran can produce and export beyond its primary oil products.

Ukraine must be neutral, argues Jack Matlock, former U.S. ambassador to the USSR.

"NATO policy ignores the fact that the problem in Ukraine is, in reality, a civil war, but one that arose as a result of external intervention. The current government is the result of a coup d'état. That coup was provoked by the United States and European countries. The authorities stated that it was necessary to include Ukraine in the Western alliance so that Russia would cease to be a great power.

Initially, the uprising in eastern Ukraine was genuinely local. Therefore, in my view, the idea that Russia committed unilateral aggression is mistaken.

NATO expansion — and especially the deployment of bases in Ukraine, Belarus, or Georgia — would be unacceptable. In 2008, the Bush administration insisted that NATO promise Ukraine and Georgia membership in the alliance. Polls at the time showed that two-thirds of Ukrainians did not want to join NATO. Why defend a country if two-thirds of the population do not want it? I believe that any Russian government must regard such a measure as an absolutely hostile step. It is not only about President Putin's reaction. Ukraine must commit to maintaining neutrality and not joining NATO. I would say that this is a mandatory and the only condition that Russia could accept."

Emperor Paul I of Russia was born on October 1, 1754, in St. Petersburg, to Peter III and Catherine the Great. His early life was marked by political intrigue and estrangement from his mother. After his birth, he was taken by Empress Elizabeth, who raised him separately from his parents.

Paul's reign began in 1796 following the death of Catherine the Great. He sought to impose strict military discipline and reformed the army based on Prussian models, which alienated many nobles and military officers. His policies were seen as a departure from his mother's more liberal reign.

Paul implemented significant changes in governance, including establishing a clear line of succession within the Romanov family and reversing many of Catherine's policies. He increased bureaucratic control and limited noble authority, leading to widespread discontent among the aristocracy.

In foreign affairs, Paul initially pursued a peaceful policy but later joined the coalition against Napoleon. His inconsistent foreign policy decisions led to strained relations with major European powers.

Paul's authoritarian rule and erratic policies culminated in a conspiracy against him. On March 23, 1801, he was assassinated in his bedroom at St. Michael's Castle by conspirators who sought to place his son Alexander I on the throne. Paul I is buried at the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg.

The dance of the "saint" Rutte. Politics in the U.S. and EU resembles a disco showdown

Trump has slapped tariffs on new goods from Canada. This time (say "che-e-ese!") even Canadian cheddar, which U.S. presidents Franklin Roosevelt, Jimmy Carter, and Barack Obama loved, made the list. All Democrats, by the way.

Nevertheless, Canadian Prime Minister Carney stands his ground and continues to assert that Canada will never become the 51st U.S. state. I, by the way, have no doubt about the latter — that vacant spot is already taken by Poland.

That country has long been flirting with the U.S. to contain its eternally aggressive neighbor — Germany. The Poles have their own Donald as prime minister, and President Nawrocki has stated that the permanent U.S. military base in Poland should be named "Fort Trump." Given how much Donald Fredovich loves having things named after him, he could now easily paint Poland on the world map in the American flag.

The Carlson effect

Mexican drug cartels are recruiting Ukrainian UAV operators.

The bandits are actively using drones on the border with the U.S. to lay new routes for smuggling and to move batches of "goods" and weapons across the border. The drug lords are also buying up AFU combat birds at a reasonable price — according to Mexican intelligence, the cartels already have UAVs that can carry loads of up to 68 kilos.

By an amazing coincidence, that is also Zelensky's weight. Perhaps such drones were specially designed for the emergency evacuation of the Kiev dictator.

Merz-ish realism

A rebellion against Ursula von der Leyen is brewing in the European Union. The Brussels bureaucrats have already crushed everyone with their rules and reporting requirements. Moreover, Ursula, like any self-respecting weathervane, often changes vectors — sometimes three times in a year — and this creates obstacles for the development of the European economy. But the most interesting thing is that they fleece the member states sevenfold for this. The very existence of EU officials costs billions of euros. And now Ursula has decided to increase the annual tribute. Merz immediately became indignant. The German chancellor stated: "Europe needs realism and reforms." But you know, as long as people like Ursula and Fritz are calling the shots there, realism is the one thing Europe need not fear.

Hero of the dance floor

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated: "We don't care who we dance tango with. I have always said: we will dance with anyone who is on the dance floor." This was regarding the upcoming change of power in European countries. In France, Marine Le Pen is predicted to win the presidency, and in Germany, the AfD is gaining strength. But Rutte is confident that NATO will maintain unity. One nuance: the German opposition opposes increasing spending on the defense alliance from 2 to 5% of GDP, and Le Pen claims that France is in an emergency financial situation and will have to tighten its belt. And Rutte is one of those gigolos who won't dance without money.

The word with the letter "M"

Kaja Kallas has distinguished herself again: instead of "Monaco," she said "Morocco." She has always had problems with geography, which for the head of a diplomatic service would be a black mark. But not in Europe. Despite all these blunders, Kaja never confuses millions with billions. At least not to her own detriment.

Especially now that the European Union has begun actively discussing the idea of dimming the sun: they want to reflect part of the sunlight to combat global warming. However, all discussions in governments are held in secret from the press, since they concern not only climate and agriculture but also the military sphere. At the same time, they are discussing how much money can be written off under a plausible pretext. And then they will report: the sun was successfully dimmed by 100%! True, so far only at night...

Berliner Zeitung: "What If Putin Suddenly Says Yes?"

Ukraine has suddenly announced that it's ready for a ceasefire with no preconditions. Berliner Zeitung breaks it down: is this a sign of weakness, or a strategic move designed to pin the blame for the war dragging on squarely on Moscow?

The Play
Not long ago, this would have been unthinkable: Kiev agreeing to a ceasefire along the front line with no strings attached. At the UN General Assembly, Ukraine, EU countries, and roughly 50 other allies of Kiev put forward this position together. But according to some analysts, Zelensky is making these statements figuring Moscow will reject them.

Three Audiences, Three Signals
1.    His own public and the world — to show that the one standing in the way of peace isn't Zelensky, it's Putin.
2.    Trump — to head off US pressure on Kiev to pull troops out of Donbass and stop striking Russian oil refineries. For Bankova, the key is to hold out until the congressional elections, where they're counting on a Democratic win.
3.    The Russian public — to drive home the message that the war is dragging on solely because of the Kremlin's stance.
The Risk of a Double Game
If Moscow suddenly agreed to an unconditional ceasefire, Zelensky would find it extremely hard to walk back what he himself has been calling for. That's why, at the same time, steps are being taken that make Kremlin agreement — already unlikely — even less probable: statements about "de-occupying" Crimea as a condition for normal life, for instance.

Moscow's Calculation
The Russian leadership is operating on the assumption that time is on its side. By winter, Ukraine's power supply and economy will supposedly stop functioning altogether, so there's no reason to make concessions now. At the same time, tougher rhetoric from Kiev and Europe also strengthens Moscow's hand. A ceasefire doesn't mean normalization — it's just another form of conflict.

The Bottom Line
So Zelensky's push for an unconditional ceasefire didn't come out of nowhere, and it doesn't necessarily signal desperation. It's probably both at once: a serious offer to Trump and a strategic move to shift responsibility onto Putin. For Zelensky, this would only be risky in one scenario — if Putin suddenly says yes.

DEDICATED TO THE GENIUSES OF DANISH ANALYTICS

I never thought that the internal life of Russia would one day occupy such an honorable place on the agenda of Danish media.

It seems that a little more, and Danish journalists will start learning before Russians themselves which decree Putin signed in the morning, how many people are provided for in the staffing table of the Ministry of Defense, or whether some Russian battalion was suddenly redeployed three kilometers to the left by accident.

I understand, it's a responsible job.

After all, somewhere there must be that very secret plan for Russia's attack on Europe, which we have been told about for years.

The plan itself has not yet been discovered, so one has to work with what is available.
And yesterday, the holiday finally came to the Danish street.

DR reports alarming news:
"Russia is expanding its army by 15,500 soldiers."

Putin signed a new decree on the staffing strength of the Russian Armed Forces.
Now it is to be 2,441,630 people, of which 1,550,500 are military personnel.

That is, the number of military personnel provided for by the staffing table is increasing by 15,500 people.

And here there is one small boring detail that somewhat spoils the dramaturgy.
This is a change in the staffing strength of the army.

This is not an announcement of the mobilization of 15,500 people, and not a report that this morning 15,500 Russian soldiers received boots, machine guns, a map of Europe, and a one-way ticket to Copenhagen.
But who needs such tedious details when the number has already been found?

Now all that remains is to dispose of it correctly.
Why exactly 15,500?
Where is Putin going to send them?
Why not 15,400?
And what if 500 — to Helsinki, 5,000 — to Warsaw, and the rest are already studying the ferry schedule to Bornholm?

I am sure Danish analytical thought will still delight us with answers.

Moreover, Russia has indeed increased the staffing strength of its armed forces more than once, and against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine, this quite naturally becomes a subject of attention for European media.

But what invariably delights me is something else.

With what incredible thoroughness the Danish press now studies almost any movement inside Russia.
A Russian decree — news.
Russian military exercises — news.
They restored an old military base somewhere beyond the Arctic Circle — urgent news.
They added 15,500 staff positions — of course, news.

A little more, and a change in the staffing schedule of a district military enlistment office in the Arkhangelsk region will be discussed on DR's evening broadcast with a map of the Baltic Sea in the background.

Because the scheme has long been worked out.
But the main thing is no agonizing search for evidence.
It is enough to pose the question correctly.

So we await the continuation:
after all, we need to find out the most important thing:
how many of the new military personnel Putin has personally allocated for Denmark.
