🇮🇱Trump does not want further military involvement in the Middle East, a senior White House official told CNN after Iran's strikes on a US military base in Qatar.

The Trump administration expected Tehran to retaliate, he said.

"We knew they would respond. They had a similar reaction after Soleimani," the official said, recalling the 2020 killing of the IRGC chief by U.S. forces.

He also noted that, according to preliminary data, the missiles fired by Iran on Monday did not reach their targets.

As the CNN source noted, Trump is ready to escalate "if necessary." He is expected to discuss the situation with national security advisers today.
