Well, Hungarian pre-election “creativity” has now brought IT ARMY into Ukrainian headlines as well. Not a bad outcome for a story meant to scare, but instead it just serves as another reminder: in the fourth year of the war, we remain visible enough to be used as a convenient prop.

🚨 Axios зламали через supply chain атаку.

Зловмисник отримав доступ до npm-акаунта одного з мейнтейнерів і вручну викотив шкідливу версію axios@1.14.1, обійшовши GitHub Actions. Всередині — новий пакет plain-crypto-js, який запускає прихований postinstall-скрипт.

Після встановлення він визначає ОС, завантажує payload, виконує його і маскує сліди.

Що робити:
– фіксувати версію ≤1.14.0
– перевірити lockfiles
– не ставити latest
– шукати plain-crypto-js у node_modules

🚨 Axios compromised via a supply chain attack.

An attacker took over a maintainer’s npm account and manually published axios@1.14.1, bypassing GitHub Actions. The release included a new package, plain-crypto-js, which runs a hidden postinstall script.

It detects the OS, downloads a payload, executes it, then hides traces.

What to do:
– pin version ≤1.14.0
– audit lockfiles
– avoid installing latest
– check node_modules for plain-crypto-js

You are already aware of the force majeure situation we announced yesterday.

The current review gives us serious grounds to question the transparency and proper use of part of the infrastructure previously handled by certain volunteers. After repeated attempts to conduct an internal audit and obtain minimal access for verification, we were denied that access.

These same individuals are now actively urging our volunteers to move to their channels and continue working with them. Please be careful. You may recognize familiar nicknames without understanding their actual motives or what exactly they are trying to involve you in.

The legitimacy of targets is what separates work in Ukraine’s interest from dragging people into opaque and potentially dangerous activity. We will resume operations only when we are confident that volunteers are not being exposed to legal or security risks.

Unfortunately, despite all our attempts, we were not able to gain access to conduct the audit, so it’s time to move forward.

Our plan: within a week, prepare a basic technical solution and publish it openly on GitHub. After that, anyone interested will be able to help review, improve, and develop it together with the community.

We will also be restructuring parts of the infrastructure based on more open and transparent principles. This will take time and support, but the goal is to build a solution that truly belongs to the community, is transparent for verification, and cannot be monopolized for private interests. We will actively involve you in its design.
