Nikita Serov, the head of ITMO’s Generative Design of Enzymes and Aptamers Lab, has been nominated for the prestigious award in the Science & Technology category. He and his team are pioneering AI-driven tools for design of molecular machines — nanoscale devices that can accelerate chemical reactions, selectively bind molecules, and even function as bioprocessors. These innovations are opening new prospects for personalized medicine and diagnostic devices.

Not quite a foreigner, not quite a local — just perfectly in-between 🇺🇸

Meet Sophia Gallegos, a US-born student who’s been blending two worlds ever since she moved to Russia. Now studying biotechnology at ITMO, she is bringing together cultures, languages, and lab experiments comfortably – and always with a cup of Russian tea. Here’s what helped Sophia crack the language:

Being surrounded by the language and having to communicate constantly really helped me learn. I doubt this is new information, but I would recommend fellow students to try and surround themselves with Russians as much as they can, to get out of their comfort zone a bit.

This summer, join the Resonant Nanophotonics Educational Workshop at ITMO ⚡️

ITMO’s Faculty of Physics, in collaboration with Skoltech and MFTI, is hosting a workshop designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in nanophotonics.

The program features lectures by leading scientists and hands-on workshops focused on the theoretical modeling of resonant nanophotonic systems. Participants will gain practical experience in using numerical and analytical modeling techniques to investigate the optical properties of plasmonic and semiconductor resonant nanostructures.
