Persistence is the name of the game 🏅

Now in his second year of Bachelor’s studies, Jofani Patrice has learned that the biggest challenges always come with the biggest rewards.

The biggest challenge is adapting to a new language, culture, and environment. I overcame all of these by being persistent and consistent about my dream, and most of all, by staying positive and not giving up no matter what situation I found myself in.

Yesterday, we welcomed summer the ITMO way — at the Bike Ride with the Rector! Just look at those happy faces 😍

Our giveaway winner, Abdelsalam Basyony, a second-year student of robotics and AI, also joined the ride. In his own words:

It was fantastic! Thanks to university life, I’d almost forgotten that cycling used to be one of my hobbies. But yesterday, ITMO reminded me of it!

For two hours, it felt like St. Petersburg belonged to cyclists. We cruised through the city with music playing, photographers everywhere, alongside the Rector, and an incredible atmosphere all around. The only challenge was trying to look athletic while smiling for the cameras! 🙂‍↔️

SPIEF 2026: a week of exciting outcomes for ITMO! ✒️

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum just wrapped up, and we have got news worth sharing!

🧠 Is easily accessible AI a harm or a boon? That was the question at ITMO’s SPIEF session. Our Director for Strategic Development, Daria Kozlova, stressed that AI opens incredible opportunities – but only if universities and businesses build responsible guidelines together.

🤝 A new partnership between ITMO Highpark and DolIIna will focus on joint development of AI for business. The goal is to strengthen St. Petersburg as one of Russia’s leading IT hubs.

⚛️ In other news, ITMO Highpark and the Siberian Ring Photon Source (SKIF) signed an agreement to advance synchrotron research. Together, they will implement joint projects in chemistry, materials science, biology, and other fields.

📜 And finally, ITMO reserchers will be developing intelligent services for the city’s Archive Committee: handwritten and printed text recognition, semantic search, and even optical diagnostics to protect fragile originals.

Every student has a story 📖

Meet Islam Azaizia, a software engineering student from Algeria! Here’s why ITMO became his perfect match:

I specifically wanted a university with a highly formidable reputation in information technology, making ITMO the perfect choice. When applying for the Russian government scholarship, I needed a recommendation letter from the university. I sent them my transcripts, and they were so impressed by my high grades in math and electrical engineering that they provided the recommendation without hesitation.
