What’s new at ITMO this week?🔬
🧬 ITMO’s Center for AI in Chemistry has developed dcBiLSTM-AE, a neural network for peptide analysis that is more compact, efficient, and accurate than its counterparts, helping speed up the search for drug candidates.
🔦 ITMO will receive 180 million rubles in 2026-2028 to develop a spectrophotometer capable of identifying substances in a single drop of solution, checking medication quality, and analyzing biological samples.
🧪 New carbon nanoparticles developed at ITMO can detect mirror-image molecules in organic solvents, paving the way for sensors to control raw materials in pharmaceutical and optoelectronics production.
And now, some useful posts worth revisiting from this week:
📚 From revision and visualization to research, discover six AI tools that can make the new academic year easier.
🤝 Try Speed Friending: five-minute conversations with different partners offer a fun way to meet dozens of students, practice languages, and connect with ITMO’s international community.

We’re saying goodbye to summer… only to welcome an even more eventful fall 🍂
And beyond studies, there were plenty of ITMO moments to remember. We went cycling with the rector, celebrated two graduations – one with our Foundation Program students and another at ITMO Family Day, our biggest festival of the year – and, of course, had an unforgettable time at Yagodnoe.

Scientists speak to the sound of an orchestra 🎻
How do scientific ideas become real-world products? That was the central question of this year’s ITMO CONF. The event explored how researchers can build product logic, take their solutions beyond the lab, find industrial applications, and attract investment.
Accompanied by a symphony orchestra, ITMO scientists presented the university’s strategy for the years ahead and shared the stories behind their projects, from the first experiments and hypotheses to bringing their ideas to market.
The event concluded with the talk by clinician and neurobiologist Vladimir Alipov, who explained how the brain predicts the next chord in a musical piece.
