08.09.2025 TASK 1: The tables show results of 2 surveys done in 1980 and 2010 on various aspects of city living in a particular city. Units are measured in percentage. TASK 2: School should focus on teaching students how to be successful in the workforce…
Task 2
Some people believe that the main focus of schools should be educating to be successful at work rather than ensuring academic success. I fully agree with this idea because theoretical knowledge is not always the most important element of career success, usually other soft skills should also be improved.
Academic success does not always guarantee that a student will be an important asset in a workplace. Firstly, although academic excellence is expected from nearly all potential employees, it is not the only key factor while deciding if a candidate is suitable for a vacancy during a job interview. Employers are highly likely to analyze other non-academic abilities of an interviewee, such as politeness, critical thinking and punctuality. Teachers, for example, are required to have those skills together with a decent level of subject knowledge to conduct fruitful lessons.
I, therefore, think that it is soft skills that need to be fostered at a young age. When youngsters grow up, it seems to become much more challenging to develop crucial skills, such as communication, problem solving, creative thinking. Since these characteristics are, more often than not, as necessary as expert knowledge in the professional success of almost any individual, they must be given an equal attention during school years. Consequently, equipped with both soft and hard skills, school leavers will be more confident and ready to get a job and excel professionally.
In conclusion, I hold the view that the abovementioned soft skills should be promoted by schools instead of solely emphasizing an academic performance as these skills tend to be equally important in the real world working conditions.

TASK 1: The graph below shows the average house prices in 3 countries between the yeras 1997-2014.
The line graph compares the average prices for housing in three various countries during 17 years from 1997 to 2014.
Overall, there were upward trends in the figures of all three countries during the whole time period. The prices of houses in country A saw the largest increase topping the list at the end whereas country B was the close second with country C experiencing the lowest growth.
Looking at the details, the prices of houses in all three countries stood at a relatively similar point around 130k dollars, with country A being first and country B and C taking the second and third positions respectively. As for A, having remained almost stable for four years, the prices rocketed reaching well over 500k dollars in 2003. In comparison, housing prices in B and C went up gradually till 2005 and 2007 finishing at around 350k dollars and just under 250k dollars respectively.
However, there were different levels of drop in each country's figures during the middle of the period. If we look at A, we can see that the prices for accomodation decreased slightly by roughly 50k dollars showing around 440k dollars after which it peaked at 630k dollars. By contrast, the figures for both B and C experienced a relatively small drop in the same year 2008, demostrating just over 250k dollars and about 50k less accordingly. Then, they both had undergone a significant growth before reaching approximately 500k and just over 250k dollars in the final year.

TASK 2: Advertising should be banned, because there is no use of it some think it has damaging effects. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some people think that advertisements should be banned as they are useless and have negative impacts. I, however, totally disagree with this view as it is an essential component of a majority of businesses, and banning this important marketing tool can lead to a decline in the national economy and budget of a government.
The first key reason why promoting products shouldn't be banned is that it is the basis of almost any enterprise. By showing ads on TV or social media, for for-profit organizations attract substantially more customers to their products and services than solely depending on word of mouth. Consequently, those companies earn an increasing amount of profit and thrive in a market. Furthermore, ads help popularize extremely innovative and useful products, which otherwise could go unnoticed. Take computers for example, if their manufacturers had not run promotions of these wonder devices in the early 2000s, those companies would have probably gone bankrupt due to the lack of demand, and people would still be spending countless amount of time on the tasks which can be done with a click of a computer button.
Therefore, I think that ads are beneficial not only for the businesses but also for the society.
Another, probably more important, benefit of this marketing instrument is that it leads to the growth of the national economy and the budget of a country. Since the promotion of goods and services increases a customer flow, entrepreneurships become much more lucrative and contribute more taxes to the government. If these companies become multinational ones, then their contribution can make up a substantial share of the national economy. In South Korea, for instance, Samsung is one of the largest tax contributors.
In conclusion, I believe that advertising should not be banned at any costs as it benefits both societies and business. Taking this essential opportunity from businessmen is highly likely to result in the bankrupcy of profitable multinationals and subsequently in the decline of overall economy.

Day 4.
Task 1. 195 words
The maps illustrate how a college building looks now and its planned changes for the future.
Overall, the biggest change is going to be the removal of footpath and the construction of a line of classrooms.
If we look at the first map, we can see that there is a footpath in the south of the plan which goes to the bus stop in the north. This path will fully be removed to slightly enlarge the carpark, in the left of the map, and college site territory, in the right, while the bus stop is expected to remain intact. A library and a reception which are currently located in the south-east corner are projected to be replaced by the line of classrooms. A smaller reception is going to be built in the center, whereas a new library will be to the south-west of it, replacing a classroom there.
The lunch area in the north-west of the college site will remain the same, however, to the north of it a new shop is going to erect. The toilet is going to be relocated from the bottom of the site plan to the top in the future.

Day 4. Task 2
Today, many people opt for online streaming when they want to watch live concerts and shows instead of physically visiting the event venue. I fully agree with this idea because of a better sound quality usually offered by digital platforms and the time problem most people have these days.
In my opinion, it is the quality of music that discourages fans from going to the concert location. In concerts, more often than not, there are hundreds of people, if not thousands, who make too much noise by cheering and screaming. This loud noise by the audience, for instance, can be irritating for some people and makes it challenging to enjoy pure work of art by musicians. Streaming services, on the other hand, offer digital copies which are usually free from any sort of noisy distractors. The viewers who want to enjoy the art fully, therefore, watch their favorite artists through the screens of their smart devices.
Time is an even more important factor for this tendency. What makes most people go online to watch entertaining shows, even if they want to attend physically, is their jobs and studies. Currently, nearly all adults spend countless hours at work, while youngsters are busy with enhancing their academic achievements. These more essential responsibilities are prioritized by such individuals when choosing to spend an excessive amount of time on the road and queues or simply to watch livestream performances saving time and energy.
In conclusion, I do believe that the majority of people choose to stay at home and enjoy live entertainments through the internet rather than commuting to the show location as online translations offer a superior quality of sound. Moreover, today's society is increasingly busy with other more important duties such as work and studies.

The line graph gives information about how many people participated in four different types of sports in a particular country.
Overall, rugby and tennis experienced the biggest changes during the entire period. Rugby witnessed a downward trend, while tennis saw an upward trend, becoming the most popular sport at the end. Another interesting point is that basketall and badminton remained relatively stable during the given period with the former being slightly higher than the latter in the ranking.
Looking at the details, the figure for rugby topped the list with tennis being a close second, making up 250 and 150 pariticipants respectively in 1985. The figures for these categories, however, met at 200 after ten years, rugby declining by 50 and tennis increasing by the same number. After this, the popularity of rugby continued going down steadily finishing at 50 sport goers, while the proportion of tennis underwent a steady rise to slightly over 200 in the final year 2005.
Meanwhile, the number of basketball and badminton lovers remained almost the same at just under 100 and roughly 50 over the whole period.

TASK 2: In many countries, many people are deciding to have a child at later age compared to the past.
It is true that in many parts of the world the majority of people are delaying to have children to a later age than in the past. I think this is happening due to several important reasons, including financial issues and career limitations. As a result of this trend, countries can face serious problems with manpower and national economy.
I firmly believe that the first reason why many adults, who are in their 20s and 30s, are putting off the idea of having a baby is due to financial concerns. It is no secret that parent have to spend large amounts of money on their children until they reach adulthood and start living independently. Providing children with food, shelter, clothes and education, which requires not only a lot of investment but also energy, is caregivers' natural duty. Since infants need constant attention and care, mothers usually cannot work full time for several years which exacerbates the situation. This combination of different challenging responsibilities and restrictions discourage young males and females from the idea of becoming fathers and mothers.
More often than not, the delay of parenthood turns into childfree lifestyle as at an older age people can be deprived of their fertility due to health issues. This childfreeness often has a substantial negative effect on the national economy of a country. The number of young people who are eligible to work can decrease significantly, which results in the lack of manpower in different professional fields, such as construction, healthcare, education and farming. The national budget is also highly likely to suffer because there might be simply not enough young working people to pay taxes since a larger proportion of citizens would be retired.
In conclusion, I hold the view that adults do not want to have a child at a relatively young age because of extra expenditures and not being able to be employed full time. As a consequence, deficiency in the the number of working citizens and a decrease in the national economy of a country are almost certain to be observed.

TASK 2: The crime rate nowadays is decreasing compared to the past due to advance technology which
can prevent and solve crime.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
Some people think that a falling trend can be observed in the number of incidences of committing crime compared to past because of modern technologies. I totally agree with this view due to several reasons, including the prevalence of CCTV cameras in public places and exploiting the IP address of internet users.
In my opinion, the increasing number of security cameras in social places has a positive effect on decreasing the crime rate. Although some might dislike being constantly watched through the lenses of these devices due to privacy concerns, I believe that many potential criminals are restricting themselves from breaking the law after noticing the camera sign on a wall. This electronic appliance not only preventing crime but also assisting with identifying criminals' identity, for instance, with the help of its advanced feature named face ID. More often than not, this equipment helps the police find and punish the outlaws, which deters the future law breakers from involving in illegal activities.
Another benefit of advanced technologies lies in the realm of cyber crime. Nowadays, the internet users have become the target of online frauds, who steal their victims' money by sending special links to certain websites or viruses. The IT department of police offices, in most developed countries, can identify those online robbers' physical location by thoroughly analyzing the criminals' IP address. GPS tracking is another, probably more beneficial, tool in searching or following the direction of a criminal if he decides to instantly relocate after realizing that his IP address was identified.
In conclusion, I believe that the advance in modern technologies has greatly reduced the number of crimes committed in many parts of the world. Now, police officers are working much more efficiently thanks to security cameras and IT department's efforts.

The diagram illustrates how fabric is produced from bamboo.
Overall, the process of fabric production from this plant involves three main stages, including cutting bamboo into strips, crushing those strips and weaving to make a ready material for using in textile industry. The procedure begins with planting bamboo and ends with ready woven fabric.
Turning into details, the procedure begins with planting bamboo plants in Spring, followed by harvesting several months later in Autumn. Harvested bamboo trees are then cut into strips, which are crushed to make liquid pulp in the next stage. Following this, the ground substance is filtered to separate long fibres from liquid.
After softening the filtered fibres by adding water and amine oxide, the resulting soft material is spun to make yam. Finally, having been woven to produce ready fabric, the end product can be used in textile industry to make clothes, such as T-shirts and socks.

Day 7.
TASK 2: In many countries, the number of animals and plants is declining.
Why do you think this is happening? What can be done?
It is true that the number of flora and fauna is experiencing a decrease in many parts of the world. I think there are two main reasons for this trend: increasing urbanization and deforestation. However, certain methods can be used to curb the negative effects of this situation, such as planting more trees and minimizing constructions in rural areas.
Urbanizing rural areas and cutting down trees are, in my view, the key factors for the decline in the number of animals and plants. Since the global population is growing at an unprecedented rate, many governments are forced to build more dwellings in relatively countryside areas to house the increasing number of citizens. Moreover, wood and furniture industries exacerbate the situation by cutting down woodlands to make profit. These construction and timber companies, more often than not, destroy the natural ecosystem of animals which are, as a result, left to death because of loss of food source and habitat.
Nevertheless, these problems can be mitigated by planting an increasing variety of fauna and stopping deforestation. If more trees are planted in relatively deserted regions, this can provide a new shelter for more animals to survive. In China, for instance, a large part of a desert has successfully been turn into a woodland by growing various vegetation. Another solution could be simply to avoid reducing forests by choosing less green areas to build new residential areas and then making it green. In my opinion, these approaches are highly likely to preserve the nature if implemented wisely.
In conclusion, the issues with decreasing number of plant and animal life are caused primarily by enlarging the territories of urban space at the expense of natural habitat for animals. This problem will continue unless necessary steps, such as widening green areas and ceasing construction work in suburban regions, are taken.

In 1958, food accounted for nearly one-third of total spending, followed by housing at 22% and clothing at 18%. By 2008, housing had risen significantly to become the largest expense, making up 32% of total spending. Clothing became the second-highest expense in 2008 at 16%, while food dropped sharply to third place at 12%.
In contrast, entertainment, transport, and luxury goods represented smaller shares in 1958, at 12%, 8%, and 7% respectively. Spending on transport more than doubled to 17% in 2008. Similarly, luxury goods rose to 17%, while entertainment dropped by half.
Somehow, I rarely or never use bolded phrases. I (and probably you) should consider adding them to your reports.

Day 8
TASK 2: Some people think that everyone in the world should have a right to use as much fresh water as they want, while others believe governments should tightly control the usage as it is limited resource.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.
There are different views about whether people should be allowed to consume fresh water as much as they wish or there must be a strict policy that limits water consumption. While I understand those who support the former idea by claiming that water is a basic necessity, I agree with the latter as carelessness about this limited resource may lead to devastating consequences in the long term.
The primary reason why some people advocate for the unlimited water utilization is that they believe water is simply a basic human need. Similar to any other communal services such as electricity and heating, it is a government's direct responsibility to provide with this utility. Since they are paying the bills on time, citizens must have a right to utilize water without any limits. Therefore, any restrictions on its usage can be considered by some people as not meeting customer expectations and be harshly criticized.
However, others believe that we need to think about the future of fresh water supply. Problems with water deficiency are certain to arise even in those areas with abundance unless authorities introduce laws that tightly control water distribution to each household. Many regions, such Central Asia, are at risk of becoming deprived of fresh water sources due to lack of rain and extended periods of drought. In the upcoming decades, severe water shortage is likely to be observed in this area which may lead to harsh living conditions. I believe necessary steps should be taken now to prevent potential disasters.
In conclusion, I support the idea of restricting water allocation to each house as this measure helps to minimize the possible effects of water shortage in upcoming years. Although I understand that water is a basic need, I do not think that it should be permitted to use carelessly.

There is an ongoing debate about whether people should be free to use unlimited amounts of fresh water or whether governments should regulate its consumption, given that it is a finite resource. While some argue that water is a basic right that must not be restricted, I believe strict control is necessary to ensure sustainability for future generations.
Supporters of unlimited access contend that water is an essential human need and, like electricity or heating, should be treated as a public utility guaranteed by the government. Since citizens pay for this service, they often feel entitled to use as much water as they wish. From this perspective, restrictions could be seen as unfair and may provoke public criticism, as they appear to undermine consumer rights and expectations.
However, others argue that careful management of water resources is vital to prevent severe shortages in the future. Even regions with abundant supplies are not immune to scarcity if consumption remains unchecked. For instance, Central Asia faces serious risks of water depletion due to prolonged droughts and insufficient rainfall. Without immediate regulation, such areas are likely to experience harsh living conditions in the coming decades. I therefore believe that governments must act now to prevent long-term crises.
In conclusion, although water is an indispensable necessity, I support the introduction of policies that restrict household consumption. Such measures are essential to mitigate the risks of future shortages and ensure that this limited resource is available for generations to come.
