Task 1

The diagram illustrates how fabric is produced from bamboo.

Overall, the process of fabric production from this plant involves three main stages, including cutting bamboo into strips, crushing those strips and weaving to make a ready material for using in textile industry. The procedure begins with planting bamboo and ends with ready woven fabric.

Turning into details, the procedure begins with planting bamboo plants in Spring, followed by harvesting several months later in Autumn. Harvested bamboo trees are then cut into strips, which are crushed to make liquid pulp in the next stage. Following this, the ground substance is filtered to separate long fibres from liquid.

After softening the filtered fibres by adding water and amine oxide, the resulting soft material is spun to make yam. Finally, having been woven to produce ready fabric, the end product can be used in textile industry to make clothes, such as T-shirts and socks.

Day 7.
TASK 2: In many countries, the number of animals and plants is declining.
Why do you think this is happening? What can be done?

It is true that the number of flora and fauna is experiencing a decrease in many parts of the world. I think there are two main reasons for this trend: increasing urbanization and deforestation. However, certain methods can be used to curb the negative effects of this situation, such as planting more trees and minimizing constructions in rural areas.

Urbanizing rural areas and cutting down trees are, in my view, the key factors for the decline in the number of animals and plants. Since the global population is growing at an unprecedented rate, many governments are forced to build more dwellings in relatively countryside areas to house the increasing number of citizens. Moreover, wood and furniture industries exacerbate the situation by cutting down woodlands to make profit. These construction and timber companies, more often than not, destroy the natural ecosystem of animals which are, as a result, left to death because of loss of food source and habitat.

Nevertheless, these problems can be mitigated by planting an increasing variety of fauna and stopping deforestation. If more trees are planted in relatively deserted regions, this can provide a new shelter for more animals to survive. In China, for instance, a large part of a desert has successfully been turn into a woodland by growing various vegetation. Another solution could be simply to avoid reducing forests by choosing less green areas to build new residential areas and then making it green. In my opinion, these approaches are highly likely to preserve the nature if implemented wisely.

In conclusion, the issues with decreasing number of plant and animal life are caused primarily by enlarging the territories of urban space at the expense of natural habitat for animals. This problem will continue unless necessary steps, such as widening green areas and ceasing construction work in suburban regions, are taken.

The pie charts compare the expenditure of citizens on six different products and services in one country in Europe over five decades (1958-2008).
Overall, it was food which topped the list in 1958, while housing became the most popular expense surpassing all the other categories after 50 years.
Looking at the details, the figure for food comprised almost a third heading the list, whereas housing came a close second with 22%, and clothing made up the third largest segment 18% in 1958. However, housing took the largest share increasing sharply to 32% in 2008. Meanwhile, clothing accounted for the second major spending showing 16% followed by food which took the the third place in the ranking (12%) decreasing by a fifth.
By contrast, entertainment, travel/transport and luxury goods initially constituted far smaller proportions with 12%, 8% and 7% respectively. Yet, the amount of money allocated for travel/transport increased by almost a tenth reaching 17% in 2008. The same portion was also taken by luxury goods, whereas the percentage of entertainment halved.

The pie charts illustrate how people in a European country spent their money on six categories of goods and services in 1958 and 2008.

Overall, food accounted for the largest share in 1958, whereas housing overtook all other categories to become the leading expenditure in 2008.

In 1958, food accounted for nearly one-third of total spending, followed by housing at 22% and clothing at 18%. By 2008, housing had risen significantly to become the largest expense, making up 32% of total spending. Clothing became the second-highest expense in 2008 at 16%, while food dropped sharply to third place at 12%.

In contrast, entertainment, transport, and luxury goods represented smaller shares in 1958, at 12%, 8%, and 7% respectively. Spending on transport more than doubled to 17% in 2008. Similarly, luxury goods rose to 17%, while entertainment dropped by half.

Somehow, I rarely or never use bolded phrases. I (and probably you) should consider adding them to your reports.

Day 8

TASK 2: Some people think that everyone in the world should have a right to use as much fresh water as they want, while others believe governments should tightly control the usage as it is limited resource.
Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There are different views about whether people should be allowed to consume fresh water as much as they wish or there must be a strict policy that limits water consumption. While I understand those who support the former idea by claiming that water is a basic necessity, I agree with the latter as carelessness about this limited resource may lead to devastating consequences in the long term.

The primary reason why some people advocate for the unlimited water utilization is that they believe water is simply a basic human need. Similar to any other communal services such as electricity and heating, it is a government's direct responsibility to provide with this utility. Since they are paying the bills on time, citizens must have a right to utilize water without any limits. Therefore, any restrictions on its usage can be considered by some people as not meeting customer expectations and be harshly criticized.

However, others believe that we need to think about the future of fresh water supply. Problems with water deficiency are certain to arise even in those areas with abundance unless authorities introduce laws that tightly control water distribution to each household. Many regions, such Central Asia, are at risk of becoming deprived of fresh water sources due to lack of rain and extended periods of drought. In the upcoming decades, severe water shortage is likely to be observed in this area which may lead to harsh living conditions. I believe necessary steps should be taken now to prevent potential disasters.

In conclusion, I support the idea of restricting water allocation to each house as this measure helps to minimize the possible effects of water shortage in upcoming years. Although I understand that water is a basic need, I do not think that it should be permitted to use carelessly.

Day 8 TASK 2: Some people think that everyone in the world should have a right to use as much fresh water as they want, while others believe governments should tightly control the usage as it is limited resource. Discuss both views and give your opinion.…
Polished by ChatGPT

There is an ongoing debate about whether people should be free to use unlimited amounts of fresh water or whether governments should regulate its consumption, given that it is a finite resource. While some argue that water is a basic right that must not be restricted, I believe strict control is necessary to ensure sustainability for future generations.

Supporters of unlimited access contend that water is an essential human need and, like electricity or heating, should be treated as a public utility guaranteed by the government. Since citizens pay for this service, they often feel entitled to use as much water as they wish. From this perspective, restrictions could be seen as unfair and may provoke public criticism, as they appear to undermine consumer rights and expectations.

However, others argue that careful management of water resources is vital to prevent severe shortages in the future. Even regions with abundant supplies are not immune to scarcity if consumption remains unchecked. For instance, Central Asia faces serious risks of water depletion due to prolonged droughts and insufficient rainfall. Without immediate regulation, such areas are likely to experience harsh living conditions in the coming decades. I therefore believe that governments must act now to prevent long-term crises.

In conclusion, although water is an indispensable necessity, I support the introduction of policies that restrict household consumption. Such measures are essential to mitigate the risks of future shortages and ensure that this limited resource is available for generations to come.

#myresults I took IELTS on August 24. Straight after finishing my CELTA course, I registered for IELTS. I did some practice tests for 6 days in a row, from Tuesday to Saturday and took the test on Sunday. It was a crazy overload for my brain, considering…
Btw, I got my speaking breakdown today.
Interestingly, I was quite close to getting 9.0 for speaking, with triple 9 and one 8 for grammar.

I remember self-correcting my grammar mistakes.

Day 9
Task 1.

The bar charts compare how many movies were released in five different countries over three years (2007, 2008, 2009).

Overall, country A topped the list during the whole period, while B came a close second. Interestingly, the other three countries produced relatively insignificant number of films.

Looking at the details, A was the most popular movie producing region accounting for 85 releases in 2007 and 2008 despite falling slightly by 5 in the following year. In contrast, B, which took the second position in the ranking, saw a sharp increase to 70 after staying almost the same, at around 50, in 2007 and 2008.

As for C and E countries, they both experienced upward trends, although in slightly different rates. Staying at approximately 8 and 9 respectively, the figure for C jumped to 18, whereas E underwent a slow rise to nearly 12. By contrast, the number of movies made in D started at around 13 and finished with a slightly smaller than this amount in 2009, after a relatively substantial decline to 9 in 2008.

Day 9. TASK 1: The bar chart provides information about the number of films produced in five countries TASK 2: University education should be free for all students, regardless of their financial background. Do you agree or disagree?
Some people believe that tertiary education should not require a tuition fee from students. I disagree with this opinion because free universities may lose their value, therefore only merit based full scholarships should be provided to the individuals who truly deserve.

One primary reason is that students would appreciate higher education institutions if they paid for their studies annually. In many cases, it is a basic human nature that takes products or services for granted when people pay little or no money. Free public schools, for example, tend to be undervalued or even disliked by many schoolchildren. However, a significant amount of financial contribution, which is not easily earned, can motivate learners to excel at their chosen major as people normally want to get the best out of it when they allocate a substantial part of their budget for it.

In my view, what should make studying free from partial or full payment is merit. If only those students who stand out by their phenomenal academic performance were granted with certain financial rewards and perks, it would be more sensible and fair. This excellence based rewarding system could promote a healthy competition among students, which could make them study harder and realize their full intellectual potentials. As a result, universities would improve their positions in the world ranking, and they might be able to provide students with better facilities by attracting more investors since wealthy businessmen usually invest in the top educational organizations.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that learners would fail to appreciate their institutions unless they made some financial contributions. To be eligible to get a full scholarship, candidates should be required to demonstrate exceptional skills and talents.

Day 10.

TASK 2: News has become more popular and more influential in people's lives.
Why? Is this a positive or negative development?

It is true that news has become prevalent and increasingly impactful in the lives of people. I think the main reason of this is an easy access to the internet. In my view, it is a negative trend because an abundance of bad news online can desensitize people.

One primary reason for the popularity of news is the introduction of the internet. Since the worldwide web was introduced, the world has become connected to an unprecedented extent. Today, stories about almost any incident can spread all around the globe in seconds, which often makes people check their news feed on their smart devices constantly, searching to find something interesting to watch or read. This modern technology made nearly any sort of not only local, but also global information easily accessible to anyone with a smartphone. As a result, keeping up-to-date with the latest breaking news has become a necessary part of life for some people.

It is a myriad of bad news that are on a trending list on the majority of websites that convinces me that this is not a positive shift. If you go on almost any broadcasting web page, you can see that devastating stories about natural disasters, crime and murder are mostly viewed. Moreover, these upsetting news tend to go viral on popular social platforms as well, such as Instagram and TikTok. Since such stories are encountered by millions of people on a daily basis, violence and sorrow can be seen as an ordinary part of our daily lives. Many people, consequently, are likely to become careless of others grief and may not help each other even when they clearly see that someone is in serious trouble.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that because of the internet, there is a growing public interest in news. Since negative news are usually offered by online platforms, I contend that this is a negative development as it is making people less sensitive about each other's misery.

So, I finished my 10-day challenge. It was difficult to write essays every single day. But I did it more or less regularly. Now, I wanna continue the challenge but without fining myself for missing a day. As totally unforeseen circumstances, which are more important than IELTS, might happen in life.

So far, I haven’t worked on quality much, I was just focused on quantity. My main goal was to get into the habit of writing regularly. Now, I wanna work on quality more and try to write higher level essays.

Btw, this time my challenge includes not watching “interesting” short videos on instagram and youtube as they have made my attention span shorter. I wanna improve my concentration and have a clear mind by consuming longer “boring” content.

Ok, as mentioned above, I've worked on the quality of my essays. Now, I think my essays are slightly better than previous ones.

Today, I wrote this essay and asked a band 9 holder to assess it. Until I receive my score, you can give an approximate score for it.

Task 2: Some people think that violent films and video games have negative effects on people
and should be banned. Others think that they are just relaxation sources. Discuss both sides and
give your own opinion.

Due to their negative impact on people, violent games and movies ought to be banned according to some individuals, while others are sure that these are purely a form of recreation. Despite some drawbacks, such as the risk of developing aggression and addiction, I support the latter idea as these digital products can be a good source of stress relief and relaxation if consumed moderately.

Undoubtedly, excessive consumption of violent films and games can damage our mental health. Some people believe that games, for example, tend to make gamers addicted by giving them happiness-related hormones, namely dopamine and adrenaline. Although they do not cause any harm per se, both of these hormones can have a negative effect on our brain when released excessively. People, especially young children, might need increasingly more of such hormone release to feel excited, which makes it almost impossible for them to imagine their lives without gaming. This addiction may lead to other mental problems, such as depression and anxiety, to name a few. Similarly, movies with scenes full of bloodshed and murder can desensitize viewers who, consequently, might become careless about others’ misery.

Others hold the view that none of the arguments above are valid enough to ban certain genres of filming and gaming industry altogether, however.
Many people, after work or studies, dive into virtual reality, forgetting their real-life problems, which more often than not supports their mental stability as their anger could be directed at virtual characters in a game or a movie, not at real people around them. Because of a small minority with poor time-management skills, most people should not be deprived of their favourite stress-relief tools. Concerning youth influence, we should accept that it is a parental responsibility to bring up children with good moral values, not a governmental issue to solve with strict regulations.

In spite of all of the downsides mentioned above, I am against banning any of such content since all must have a freedom of choice. As for the drawbacks, they can easily be mitigated by moderation and parental control. Parents can set computer or gaming console usage limits for their young children, who usually make up the majority of the gaming population. Action and horror movie lovers, for example, should simply avoid watching them for hours. Such a simple restriction and self-discipline can allow all gamers and movie fans to enjoy their favourite leisure activity.

In conclusion, there are some drawbacks of violent video games and films, but they are not significant enough to censor such media. Because of those who lack time management and self-control skills, censorship regulations should not be introduced. People should retain the ability to choose freely what sort of content they want to watch or play.

Many people think that the best way to learn a culture is to learn its language. To what extent do
you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that the best method to increase cultural awareness is through a language acquisition process. Despite understanding the logic behind this argument, such as receiving culture-related knowledge by consuming an increasing amount of content in the target language, I disagree with this view because living in a native speakers’ country is a far better approach to understand all the subtle elements of their lifestyles.

Consuming an excessive amount of media online can definitely teach learners different cultural aspects of a foreign language. Language enthusiasts usually turn to media, whether it be films, YouTube videos or podcasts in the target language, to accelerate the learning process. If these potential bilinguals or multilinguals additionally watch historical documentaries, they can have an even better understanding of the heritage of their target nation. Discovery and National Geographic TV channels are good sources of such programs, for instance. Through this combined media consumption people can undoubtedly obtain a considerable amount of information about the customs and traditions of native speakers.

However, real-life experience abroad is incomparable to any sort of content consumption. A case in point is advanced-level candidates who are issued with C1 and C2 level certificates by international English language tests, namely IELTS and TOEFL. Although they have proficient language skills, they rarely comprehend all the cultural nuances of British people. This is because only by cultural immersion can those subtleties be grasped. Not only that, individuals can have a broader worldview about the socio-cultural fabric of the local population when they live among them. The procedure of enculturation can, therefore, be less time-consuming and more comprehensive.

In conclusion, studying a language can be a good way of learning about a culture, as people acquire a lot of cultural information through the media. Yet, I do believe that spending several years among the residents of a certain country gives much more valuable and practical knowledge about the way they live.
❤8👍2
This time I focused on grammatical range. You can see many advanced grammar structures here. But the TR is not that good.

Some people think that studying history is a waste of time while others think that it is essential to learn. Discuss both sides and give your opinion.

People have different views about studying history: some individuals believe it to be useless, while others claim that it is crucial. Despite understanding the importance of learning from past mistakes, I support the former as this subject offers limited practical relevance.

There are two main reasons why some people advocate for learning history. One is learning from the errors of previous generations so that those wrongdoings are not repeated. Since many historical books are full of wars and violence caused by poor decisions of authorities of the middle ages, for instance, future generations can understand what not to do to avoid bloodshed and conflicts in the future. Another is gaining a deeper insight into the cultural heritage of a country. The fact that the way the citizens of different civilisations lived has been recorded - both in written and visual forms - since the dawn of humanity proves that it is mostly through historical books that people can imagine the lifestyles of their ancestors.

That said, the practical benefit of this discipline in ordinary people’s daily lives is limited. By memorizing an abundance of information about the past, they can rarely gain any financial benefits, with only historians making a living through their jobs at universities or schools. The amount of time allocated to acquiring outdated information is another issue. More often than not, reading simply a book is not enough to comprehend the whole picture about a single dynasty, for instance. To fully grasp the destiny of those historic figures, one might need to allocate countless years, if not decades. These arguments are likely to render this subject obsolete in modern-world education.

Having considered both sides of the matter, I hold the view that history should be studied by the ones who plan to pursue a profession in academia as a lecturer or tutor. Those enthusiasts can be sure that their time is not being wasted on an unnecessary subject, unlike students pursuing other career prospects, including medicine and engineering. Since history provides no employability value, the latter should not allot their precious time to that subject.

In conclusion, drawing lessons from the past and appreciating the struggles of previous generations are the arguments behind the claims about the importance of studying history. Yet, I do believe that an excessive amount of time spent on studying it and the lack of practicality of history in the general public’s life are far stronger counterarguments; thus, only future historians should learn this subject.

Two interesting phrases from reading passages I've done recently:

The jury is out on something - the decision about something has not been reached.
Ex: "The jury is still out on whether the new medicine will be effective."

Disposable income - the amount of money left after paying taxes
Ex: "the rents of tenants in work reached 21 per cent of disposable income"
