βš™οΈ πŸ†• Apple's new iOS 18.1 introduces a security feature that reboots the phone if it hasn't been unlocked for 72 hours. This feature is called the "Inactivity Reboot" and is implemented in keybagd and the AppleSEPKeyStore kernel extension.

The feature makes it more difficult for thieves, law enforcement, and forensic experts to extract data from iPhones.

The Inactivity Reboot effectively places iPhones in a more secure state called "Before First Unlock" (BFU) by locking the user’s encryption keys in the iPhone’s secure enclave chip.

Even if thieves leave your iPhone powered on for an extended period, they won’t be able to unlock it using outdated, less sophisticated forensic tools.

While the Inactivity Reboot makes it more challenging for law enforcement to extract data from devices belonging to criminals, it does not lock them out completely.

In iOS 18.2, users are now also prompted to enable Stolen Device Protection, a feature that was previously hidden deep in the Settings menu. This feature prevents thieves from accessing your phone and accounts using only the PIN by frequently prompting for biometric authentication.

iPhones have two different states that affect the ability of law enforcement, forensic experts, or hackers to unlock them by brute-forcing the passcode or extracting data by exploiting software vulnerabilities. These states are β€œBefore First Unlock” (BFU) and β€œAfter First Unlock” (AFU).

When the iPhone is in the BFU state, the user's data is fully encrypted and nearly impossible to access unless the person trying to unlock it knows the passcode. In contrast, in the AFU state, certain data is unencrypted and may be more vulnerable to extraction by some forensic tools, even if the phone is locked.

The iPhones in these two states are also referred to as β€œhot” and β€œcold” devices. Many forensic companies focus on β€œhot” devices in the AFU state because, at some point, the user has entered their correct passcode, which is stored in the memory of the iPhone’s secure enclave. By contrast, β€œcold” devices are more difficult to compromise, as their memory cannot be easily extracted once the phone has restarted.

A video by Jiska, a security researcher, demonstrates how this new feature works.

Here is the law enforcement document obtained by 404 media house . It says that a bunch of iPhones were in an AFU state (easier to get data from). Then a bunch of them rebooted into a BFU state (much harder if not then impossible to get data from as per them)
This even applied to phones that were in Airplane mode, and even one in a faraday box.

🚨 ATTENTION: IMPORTANT INFORMATION 🚨

Apple has patched the MacBook T2 iCloud bypass service on iBridgeOS 9.2 with macOS Sequoia v15.2. It is currently unsupported by any bypass tool or service. We strongly recommend avoiding updates to this version.

If your Mac has already been updated, you can downgrade using Apple Configurator to iBridgeOS 9.1 and then you can bypass using existing tools , and If you have already bypassed your device before, it’s best to stay on the lower version. Do not restore, reset, or update your Mac, as doing so may result in losing your bypass. Always disable automatic updates in Mac settings, or use an OTA blocker to prevent updates.

πŸ”¨One tip: After bypassing on iBridgeOS 9.1 on older macOS versions like Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, or others, you can update to Sequoia 15.1 via USB Bootable or Macos Full Installer File for an OTA update only. Do not update directly from Settings, as it will upgrade to Sequoia 15.2, which is not supported.

- To Off Automatic Updates there are many ways through terminal command or through Ota Update Blocker App.

βœ… Command :
For all T2 Bypassed device.
Stop Updates By typing below command on the Mac Terminal:

defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL http://NoUpdatesAvailable

πŸ”¨ We are actively working on solving this patch and will notify you once a fix is available.

🚨⚠️ Important Notice for Intel-Based Macs with T2 Chip Untethered iCloud Bypass Service.

⚠️ Do Not Update/Reset/Restore Your Device if Already Bypassed Untethered.

If your Intel-based Mac with a T2 chip has already been bypassed, we highly recommend not updating/restore/reset your macOS otherwise you will loose the untethered bypass, causing your device to become locked again , due to recent Apple Patch that affected All T2 iCloud Locked Macs on iBridgeOS 9.2 & MacOS Sequoia 15.2.

⚠️ Today Apple has stopped signing BridgeOS 9.1 firmware.
This means it's no longer possible to downgrade to that version.

If you are already on iBridgeOS 9.1/9.0 or lower stay there for untethered access. βœ…

πŸ›  Use the OTA Blocker to prevent your device from receiving unwanted macOS updates. You can use any OTA blocker tool, or utilize specific Terminal commands to block updates.

βœ… Alternative Solution: Tethered Bypass T2 still available and working good with Latest iBridgeOS.
