CA Final Audit Concept Capsule - 2
Auditor uses Other Matter Paragraph and Emphasis of Matter Paragraph in his audit report. Many of the students confuse when to use Other Matter Paragraph and when to use Emphasis of Matter Paragraph. Now let me clear your confusion.
🔹 Emphasis of Matter Paragraph- Auditor uses Emphasis of Matter Paragraph to communicate to the users of audit report about something that is already present in the financial statements. That means, Auditor is emphasizing about a particular matter that is already present in the financial statements.
Example: A company is facing a major lawsuit, and the outcome could impact its financial position. The management has already disclosed this in the financial statements. The auditor, to draw attention to its significance, includes an Emphasis of Matter Paragraph in the audit report.
🔹Other Matter Paragraph- Auditor uses Other Matter Paragraph to communicate to the users of the audit report about the audit.
Example: The financial statements of a company were audited by a different auditor in the previous year. The current auditor mentions this fact in an Other Matter Paragraph to provide additional clarity to users of the audit report.
So, to put it simply, Emphasis of Matter paragraph is used to communicate matters other than related to the audit and that are present in the financial statements, whereas Other Matter paragraph is used to communicate about the audit.
Hope this makes the concept clear, let me know if you have any doubts in the comments.

CA Final Audit Concept Capsule - 3
Did you know, in case of listed entities, the audit that has been done by the engagement partner has to be mandatorily reviewed by another person who is known as Engagement Quality Control Reviewer?
For audit of unlisted entities Quality control review is not mandatory.
However, this engagement quality control reviewer must be a chartered accountant who is a partner of the firm or employee of the firm or can be from another form, but he should not have been part of the audit team.
And another important point is that auditor should not date his audit report until and unless engagement quality control review has been completed.
This concept is discussed in SQC-1 & SA - 220.

CA Final Audit Concept capsule -4
We all know that Auditor can give three types of modified opinions. They are Qualified Opinion, Adverse Opinion, and Disclaimer of Opinion. But students will be confused in which situations Auditor will give which type of opinion. Let us clearly understand this now.
This depends on three terms. They are,
1) whether auditor has obtained audit evidence
2) whether the misstatement is material, and 3) whether the misstatement is pervasive.
Qualified opinion
1) Audit evidence - Obtained/not obtained
2) Mistatements are material - yes
3) misstatements are pervasive - no
Adverse opinion
1) Audit evidence - Obtained
2) Mistatements are material - yes
3) misstatements are pervasive - yes
Disclaimer
1) Audit evidence - Not Obtained
2) Undetected Mistatements are material - yes
3) Undetected misstatements are pervasive - yes
Hope this makes it easy to you to remember the various situations in which different types of modified opinions are given.
Let me know if you have any doubts in the comment section.

CA Final Audit Concept Capsule - 5
Most of the times, we think that the audit that the auditor has done is final. But, do you know that there are various review mechanisms and authorities who will review the work that has been done by auditor?
Now let us see those review mechanisms.
1) Quality Control Review In case of audit of listed entities, the audit that has been done by the engagement partner will be reviewed by Engagement Quality Control Reviewer and the audit report has to be signed only after this review has been completed.
2) Peer Review Board It is a board set up by ICAI, which will review the assignments that have been done by audit firms. There is a mandatory requirement on the audit firms to get their firms peer reviewed on a periodical basis.
3) Quality Review Board It is a board set up by central government which reviews the quality of assignments and audits that have been taken up by members of institute.
4) National Financial Reporting Authority has been set up under the Companies Act, which will oversee the quality of audits of listed entities that has been done by members of the Institute. It will issue periodical reports on quality lapses in the audits of listed entities that it has found during its review.
An auditor’s work is not the final word—multiple review mechanisms and authorities are in place to re-examine and ensure audit quality.
💬 What are your thoughts on these audit review mechanisms? Do you think they are enough to ensure audit quality, or should there be more checks in place? Let me know in the comments! 👇

We all know that before starting an audit, auditor will establish overall audit strategy and he will also develop audit plan. Now, most of the students will confuse with respect to audit strategy and audit plan. Now, we will clearly understand and differentiate between audit plan and audit strategy.
1) Audit strategy is broader, It speaks about what has to be audit and when it has to be audited, On the other hand Audit plan is more detailed which speaks about How it has to be audited
Example
Imagine you’re planning a wedding.
🔹 Audit Strategy = Wedding Theme & Vision
a) Deciding if the wedding will be grand and luxurious or simple and intimate.
b) Choosing between destination wedding in Goa or a traditional wedding in your hometown.
c) Allocating the budget to key areas like venue, food, and outfits.
🔹 Audit Plan = Wedding Execution & To-Do List
a) Booking the exact venue and caterers.
b) Assigning family members to handle different tasks like decorations, guest lists, and music.
So, Execution portion comes in Audit plan.
2) Audit strategy is prepared first, after that Audit plan is prepared
3) Both are interlinked change in one leads to change of other
Now that we’ve broken down Audit Strategy vs. Audit Plan, here’s something to think about—Which one do you think plays a bigger role in ensuring a smooth and effective audit? Let me know your thoughts in the comments! 👇💬

Auditor provides reasonable assurance that financial statements as a whole are free from material misstatements.
Have you ever observed the term assurance, what does that mean? let us understand the term assurance from audit point of view
We know that management prepares financial statements which will be used by various stakeholders, Now auditor increases the confidence of the users on financial statements by auditing financials and providing an opinion there.
Here auditor is giving assurance to the users that financial statements are true and fair, this is the reason behind using the term “Reasonable Assurance”
Based on the level of assurance that auditor gives there are 3 types of assurances
a) Absolute Assurance - 100% Assurance
b) Reasonable Assurance - High assurance but not 100% ( whuch auditor gives in case if audit)
c) Limited Assurance - Lower than reasonable assurance. Auditor performs fewer procedures than audit (inquiries and analytical procedures) rather than detailed testing. Here auditor states that nothing has come to their attention that indicates material misstatements in the financial statements.
Now that we’ve understood assurance in auditing, here’s a question for you—Why do you think “Absolute Assurance” is not provided in an audit? Is it even possible? Share your thoughts in the comments! 👇💬

In the Annual report that company prepares apart from financial statements there will be various other information, Now the question here is whether auditor should refer this other information in his audit report and also provide his opinion on this other information also or is it sufficient if auditor provides his opinion on financial statements only?
Do you know there is a separate standard dealing with this issue? Yes, it is SA-720 - Auditor's responsibility regarding the other information.
As per SA-720, Auditor has to read other information and consider whether there is a material inconsistency between this other information and the financial statements.
If any material misstatements are found in the other information, auditor will report the same in the separate paragraph in his audit report by name Other Information paragraph.
Here we need to understand that Auditor doesn't provide any opinion on the other information But, if there are any misstatements in the other information Auditor will highlight only those misstatements in the audit report.
Here’s a question for you—If the auditor finds a material misstatement in the “Other Information,” but it does not affect the financial statements, do you think it can still impact users’ decisions? Why or why not? Share your thoughts in the comments! 👇💬
