Ramacham Vishari
Ramacham (Vettiver) is widely used in Kerala in different forms. Botanically Ramacham is Vettiveria zezanoides. The grass and its roots are used widely for medicinal purposes. Ramacham vishari (literally fan made of Vettiver) and sleeping mats made of Ramacham and thailam or perfume extracted from its roots are a range of products used in Kerala since ancient times during the hot summer. Even though their purposes are 'better' served today by the modern electrical amenities, they still are luxurious ethnic items seen in some Kerala homes. Usually water is sprinkled on the Ramacha vishari so that it gives cool perfumed breeze. Ramacham mats used as blinds would also be sprinkled with water to keep the rooms cool during hot summer days.

Punnamada Lake
Punnamada Lake is known to be one of the most beautiful lakes in Kerala, expanding in a number of districts of the state. If you are a traveler who likes to tick off all the ‘highest’ places in the world off your list, then Kolukkumalai should feature on it. Kolukkumalai Estate is the highest tea estate in the world and has a functioning tea factory at a height of 7,900 feet since the 1900s! The estate offers breathtaking views of the Nilgiris and is a nature lover’s delight. Apart from beauty, the waterfall also offers adventure as the jeep ride to it is surely a thrilling one, ensuring Kolukkumalai remains one of the most unexplored places in Kerala.
How to get there: Take a jeep from the town of Suryanelli which is about 23 KM from Munnar. The nearest railhead to Munnar is at Aluva about 114 KM away while the nearest airport is at Kochi about 130 KM away.

Bekal Beach, in far North Kerala (around a 90-minute drive from Mangalore International Airport in Karnataka) is famous for its old fort. Standing at about 130 feet above sea level, Bekel Fort is one of the largest in Kerala, and, at more than 300 years old, remarkably well-preserved.
The beaches are clean and unspoiled, but luxury hotels have already started moving into the area, making it the place for a pampered getaway. The most popular resort is the gorgeous Taj Bekal Resort & Spa. It's possible to stay there for around 18,000 rupees ($220) per night, depending on the season. The secluded LaLiT Resort and Spa Bekal, meanwhile, is located on a private beach with backwaters running through it. However, it's more pricey. While you can find rooms for 15,000 rupees ($184) per night, during the winter months, they can cost as much as 125,000 ($1,530).

Vazhuvanthol waterfalls
Vazhvanthol waterfall is a great location for a treknic (trek + picnic). The waterfall trail is only about 2.2 kms, nevertheless expect to reach the cascade in an hour. You will be amazed how little this awesome place is known. Other than keen nature enthusiasts, not a lot of people venture to here.
Vazhvanthol waterfall is past Vithura in the north eastern part of Thiruvananthapuram district. Soon after Vithura is Theviyode junction. Take the deviation towards Bonacaud. Travel about 12 kms and you will reach the check post, where you have to take the entry pass. Vehicles travel a couple of kms from the check post.
