For the first time in history, International Olympiad in Informatics is in Uzbekistan, in the land known for coining the terms “algebra” and “algorithm”!

On August 10, Tashkent hosted the Grand Opening Ceremony of the 38th International Olympiad in Informatics.

Hosting IOI 2026 stands as a direct testament to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s comprehensive policy on digital transformation.

This year sets a historic record, uniting 386 contestants from over 97 countries, with total attendance exceeding 900 participants.

Inspiring addresses were delivered by the IOI President Sun Teck Tan and Gennady Korotkevich, the most successful competitor in the history of the IOI.

Highlighting the global tech community's support for young talent, Telegram established a dedicated prize fund for the tournament's winners. Hosting this global event in Uzbekistan holds deep historic symbolism, taking place in the homeland of Al-Khwarizmi, father of algebra, who inspired the concept of algorithms.

As the host nation, Uzbekistan is represented by two national teams of eight selected finalists.

Beyond nurturing local talent and expanding the IT sector, this landmark forum drives international tourism and elevates Uzbekistan's global standing.
