❄ Happy Old New Year, dear friends!

Here’s why New Year is celebrated twice in Russia — from December 31 to January 1, and again from January 13 to 14.

🍃 In Ancient Rus’, the New Year was celebrated on March 1.
🍂 From the late 15th century, September 1 was considered the first day of the year.
🌲 On December 20, 1699, Peter the Great issued a decree making January 1 the start of the year, encouraging people to decorate their homes with evergreen branches and greet one another with New Year’s wishes.
📆 In 1918, Russia adopted the Gregorian calendar, creating a 13‑day difference with the old Julian calendar.

So now, January 1 according to the old calendar falls on the night of January 13–14 — that’s how the Old New Year came to be, giving us another chance to gather with loved ones and make a wish!

🎄 The Sirius federal territory celebrated the New Year in grand style: festive programs for children and adults brought together more than 8,000 guests.

Throughout the holidays, residents and visitors enjoyed concerts, plays, workshops, and film screenings. Holiday markets were open, and near the New Year trees, Father Frost and the Snow Maiden hosted lively shows and activities.
