Strong Rebound After US-Iran Temporary Ceasefire

US: Despite a strong rebound following a two-week US-Iran ceasefire, we expect Wall Street’s trading volatility to persist as Iran threatens the Strait of Hormuz oil transit, citing Israeli strikes in Lebanon as ceasefire violations. This should continue to bode well for BWX Technologies, which is benefiting as a monopoly naval nuclear supplier for the US. Meanwhile, we believe the transition into the "infrastructure" phase of the AI boom favours Marvell Technology as a leader in custom silicon, while Ubiquiti remains a top pick for its superior networking margins. Lastly, following the release of hawkish FOMC minutes indicating potential rate hikes to combat energy-driven inflation, we believe investors should await a pullback for entry opportunities.

MY: Tracking the positive overnight performance on Wall Street, we believe buying interest may sustain on the local front. With Brent oil prices hovering below USD100/barrel, we anticipate that positive sentiment to extend within the aviation and consumer sectors, benefiting stocks such as CAPITALA, AAX, and 99SMART. Meanwhile, yesterday’s breakouts in SLVEST and PEKAT validated our calls on solar sector, serving as a strategic safeguard against future increases in domestic electricity tariffs. Finally, we favour Hartanah Kenyalang, given its record order book of RM563.1m and the tailwinds from Sarawak’s infrastructure development.

M+ Global Market Update – 10Apr26
Rebound Continues Ahead of US-Iran Negotiate

US: While Israel and Lebanon engaged in direct negotiations, we believe Wall Street’s rebound yesterday mainly reflected optimism regarding this weekend’s US–Iran negotiations. However, investors should expect a seesaw trading environment moving forward, depending on the negotiation outcomes and the participants' commitment to the truce. Meanwhile, with February’s 3% PCE growth exceeding the Fed's 2% target, prior to accounting for recent oil price spikes; a continued hawkish Fed in 2026 may also create another round of value-hunting opportunities this year. Lastly, following the broader chipmaker rally, investors could rotate into Nvidia, which is hovering above its MA200, offering an attractive entry point.

MY: In view of US positive overnight performance, we believe buying support may emerge on the local bourse. Meanwhile, following the closure of rubber glove maker WRP Asia Pacific Sdn Bhd, which cited significant cost increases in raw materials and chemicals stemming from the Middle East conflict, other glove producers such as Top Glove, Hartalega, and Kossan experienced a resurgence in buying interest. This is as the reduction in glove supply is expected to drive higher ASPs. Lastly, investors could position themselves in Coraza, which reported outperforming FY25 results following a surge in demand for front-end wafer fabrication equipment.

M+ Global Market Update – 13Apr26
US Orders Blockade of Strait of Hormuz

US: As the US–Iran negotiations failed to reach an agreement, Wall Street is anticipated to kick off the week on a subdued tone. Iran has indicated that it is in no hurry to reopen the Strait of Hormuz; in response, the US Navy will begin blockading all ships entering or leaving the Strait. This is expected to drive oil and LNG prices higher, as approximately 25% of global oil and 20% of LNG supply pass through the Strait, benefiting energy majors such as Chevron, ExxonMobil, and Cheniere Energy. Furthermore, as the US Navy intensifies its presence in the region, sentiment is likely to favour defence contractors like Lockheed Martin and BWX Technologies.

MY: Amidst the unresolved Middle East conflict, we believe the local bourse will start the week on a softer note. The US announcement of a blockade over the Strait of Hormuz is expected to propel global oil prices upward, as the waterway faces a "double bottleneck" from both Iran and the US. This potentially translates into trading opportunities within the O&G and chemical sectors, specifically for stocks like DIALOG, PCHEM, TMK Chemical, and Cropmate. Sentiment should also bolster the plantation sector, as the market may pivot toward biofuels as a partial substitute for fossil fuels, benefiting companies such as SDG, SOP, and TSH. For a defensive strategy, investors may favour Banks or REITs.

M+ Global Market Update – 14Apr26
Wall Street Rebounded Despite US Navy Blockade

US: As the US began imposing a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, markets expressed concern regarding inflation driven by elevated oil prices, where investors is pricing in a more hawkish tone by the Fed in 2026. Meanwhile, sentiment is expected to favour defence counters such as BWX Technologies and Lockheed Martin as the US Navy intensifies its presence in the region. Given recent developments in the semiconductor space, including TSMC’s stellar 1Q26 results and the extension of the Broadcom-Google agreement through 2031, we believe investors could reposition into GPU leader Nvidia. Besides, market participants will focus on the quarterly earnings of major banking stocks this week.

MY: Closer to home, the local bourse is expected to track Wall Street’s positive overnight performance, rebounding from recent losses. As the US initiates its blockade of the Hormuz Strait, we believe sentiment will remain favourable for MISC, as the shipping giant is well-positioned to pass on higher charter rates to clients. Similarly, the rebound in oil prices is expected to benefit DIALOG, TMK Chemical, and Cropmate. Lastly, we maintain an optimistic outlook on MNHLDG and CBHB, both of which serve as proxies for Tenaga’s grid upgrades and the domestic data centre boom, supported by their respective order books of RM1.3bn and RM592m.

M+ Global Market Update – 15Apr26
Wall Street Boosted By Hopes For More Iran Talks

US: With reports suggesting that the US and Iranian negotiating teams could return to Pakistan this week for further discussions, we expect Wall Street to turn slightly bullish in the near term. Meanwhile, markets will focus on the quarterly earnings of major banks, including JPMorgan, which recorded 1Q26 YoY revenue and profit growth of 10% and 13% respectively, outperforming analysts’ estimates. Traders may also take positions in Royalty Pharma, underpinned by (i) its US$500m co-funding deal with Johnson & Johnson for the development of the JNJ-4804 drug and (ii) its potential inclusion in the S&P 500. Lastly, investors will be monitoring initial jobless claims and April’s Philadelphia Fed Manufacturing Index later this week.

MY: Tracking Wall Street’s positive performance, we expect the FBM KLCI to follow suit and extend its upward momentum, particularly within the technology sector. Meanwhile, following the rebound in SUNCON, we believe GAMUDA is also poised for a 'bottoming out' signal, supported by their respective order books which stand at RM6.9bn and RM44bn. Buying interest continues to build in solar-related counters, which serve as an immediate economic hedge against rising domestic electricity tariffs. Lastly, scheduled waste management services provider, 5E Resources Holdings Berhad, is set to make its ACE Market debut today.

M+ Global Market Update – 16Apr26
Optimism Persists Amid Renewed US-Iran Negotiations

US: Following President Trump's announcement that a second round of US–Iran talks could occur in Pakistan this week, we anticipate Wall Street will remain bullish in the near term. Meanwhile, we expect trading interest to be sustained within the financial sector; Morgan Stanley recorded 1Q26 YoY revenue and profit growth of 16% and 29% respectively, outperforming analysts' consensus estimates. This was underpinned by stronger-than-expected equity trading revenue. Also, other banking heavyweights such as JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, and Bank of America reported robust results. Lastly, as gold recently hit a four-week high, traders may wish to revisit mining companies such as Agnico Eagle Mines and Barrick Gold.

MY: Tracking Wall Street’s positive overnight performance, we expect a spillover effect into the FBM KLCI, particularly within the technology sector. Meanwhile, we believe investors could find value in property counters such as Lagenda Properties and LBS Bina Group. The former is poised to benefit from the JSSEZ and the civil servant pay hike, given that 70% of its customer base comprises government employees utilising state loan schemes. The latter has recently increased its minimum dividend payout ratio from 30% to 40%. Finally, Golden Destinations (M+ TP: RM0.51) is set to make its ACE Market debut today.
