M+ Global Market Update – 28Jul26
Falling Oil Set To Trigger 'Risk-On' Mode

US: Despite the mixed closing print in US markets, Wall Street is expected to extend gains as falling crude oil prices ignite risk appetite across equities. Easing energy costs provide welcome relief for inflation expectations, boosting market sentiment ahead of a heavy week of Q2 corporate earnings releases and key macroeconomic data, including the Federal Reserve policy decision, nonfarm payrolls, and Q2 GDP prints. Investors will closely monitor mega-cap tech and industrial scorecards to gauge earnings resilience and forward capital expenditure plans.

MY: The FBM KLCI could rebound further, despite Wall Street’s mixed overnight performance. Near-term domestic sentiment will be supported as funds re-evaluate the local tech sector, driven by testing and solutions providers moving up the value chain; SNS continues its rally following a record RM1.22bn AI server win, while AEMULUS gains traction after securing RM15.11m in South Korean orders for AI test systems. Meanwhile, the upcoming Negeri Sembilan state election and the return of Formula 1 to Sepang in October are taking centre stage and are likely to bode well for tourist inflows and retail spending, translating into earnings for consumer players such as 99SMART, SPRITZER, and FFB.

M+ Global Market Update – 29Jul26
Selected Strong Earnings to Drive Local Tech Buying

US: Sector rotation has intensified following the ChangXin Memory Technologies IPO, which triggered a sell-off in memory stocks like Micron and SK Hynix. Investors fear that future Chinese capacity expansion could pressure traditional memory pricing down the road. Coupled with SK Hynix’s earnings miss, sending its stock lower post-market and we believe Wall Street may trade on a cautious tone ahead. Key focus shifts to upcoming Q2 GDP figures, weekly jobless claims, and the Federal Reserve policy decision. With tech under pressure, expect capital to flow toward defensive plays in consumer and financials, such as Walmart (WMT), Procter & Gamble (PG), and JPMorgan Chase (JPM).

MY: Meanwhile, on the local front, overall sentiment may rebound, though upside will be limited by the global tech rout. Semiconductor weakness could cap index gains, but stock-specific earnings breakouts offer clear trading opportunities. Focus turns to DUFU, after its quarterly profit surged nearly fivefold to RM13.9m on robust HDD demand, and OGX following a 51.2% YoY net profit jump to RM23.2m. Amid fragile tech sentiment, investors should shelter in defensive plays with stable cash flows, favouring consumer heavyweights like 99SMART and SPRITZER, alongside utilities anchor TENAGA.

M+ Global Market Update – 30Jul26
Surging Yields Kill Risk Appetite

US: Wall Street is expected to remain cautious as the Fed kept interest rates unchanged at 3.50%–3.75%. A hawkish hold, highlighted by three dissenting votes advocating for a 25bps rate hike, alongside a surge in the 10-year US Treasury yield to 4.66%, reinforces the "higher-for-longer" interest rate narrative. While higher yields present headwinds for rate-sensitive tech, strong earnings from Alphabet and SK Hynix should offer a cushion for AI-related counters as investors await key results from Apple (AAPL) and Amazon (AMZN). Meanwhile, escalating US–Iran tensions are pushing crude oil prices higher, driving market leadership towards energy heavyweights such as ExxonMobil (XOM) and Chevron (CVX).

MY: Against this backdrop, the local bourse is expected to trade on a selective footing. Higher crude oil prices should spur buying interest in the oil and gas space, favouring key counters such as DIALOG, DAYANG, ARMADA, and VELESTO. Also, we expect HENGYUAN and PCHEM to benefit from prolonged supply disruption uncertainties in the Strait of Hormuz. In the Technology sector, upside gains may be capped following negative overnight performance on Wall Street. However, we still like DUFU and NOTION, where the former has produced stellar results which may benefit sentiment among HDD players.

Bargain Hunting Sparks Chipmakers Rally

US: With margin calls and selling pressure in Korea having abated, Wall Street is expected to build on its relief rebound. Meanwhile, impressive quarterly performance from Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (AMZN) highlighted accelerating revenue expansion across their respective cloud divisions, firmly validating ongoing enterprise spending in AI infrastructure; Amazon planned 2026 capital expenditures of USD220bn, driven heavily by artificial intelligence infrastructure demand, data centers, and custom chips. With growth confidence restored, upside momentum in the upcoming session will centre directly on Microsoft (MSFT) and Amazon (AMZN) as primary catalysts driving broader index gains.

MY: Buoyed by Wall Street’s overnight gains and strong domestic earnings, the local bourse is expected to stage a tech-led rally. Sentiment toward local technology stocks will be anchored by VITROX, whose 2QFY26 net profit more than tripled YoY to RM85m (up from RM28.1m), driven by surging AI demand, operational efficiency, and tax benefits. We anticipate spillover fund flows into other tech names, including INARI, MPI, and FRONTKN. Meanwhile, for investors seeking a more defensive stance, consumer plays remain attractive; NESTLE, which posted a 38% YoY jump in 2Q net profit. Other consumer stocks like 99SMART and SPRITZER may benefit.

Rally May Extend After Cancelled Attack

US: With President Trump cancelling a planned attack on Iran, coupled with the impressive results shown by Amazon (AMZN) and Microsoft (MSFT), we expect Wall Street to kickstart the August trading month on a positive note. Meanwhile, AMZN’s revenue outperformance, driven by accelerating AWS cloud growth, alongside its decision to hike 2026 CapEx from USD200bn to USD220bn should directly benefit memory chip manufacturers as well as other DC infrastructure and power providers. Lastly, we believe traders could also look into Southern Copper Corporation (SCCO) following the recovery in copper prices and structural demand led by AI and global grid electrification.

MY: In view of the rally on Wall Street, coupled with the cancellation of a planned attack on Iran, we believe the FBM KLCI may extend its gains today, especially in the Technology sector. Meanwhile, we favour HSSEB, underpinned by its (i) RM2.1bn order book providing multi-year earnings visibility, (ii) structural tailwinds from domestic transport, water infrastructure, and DC projects, and (iii) earnings acceleration from major overseas contracts such as the Baghdad Metro JV contract worth RM1.5bn. Lastly, given the recovery in global tin prices, traders could also take positions in MSC, which has just experienced a breakout from consolidation.

M+ Global Market Update – 04Aug26
Stocks Extended Gains After Trump Called Off Attack

US: As the US delayed its planned attack on Iran to allow more time for peace talks, coupled with Brent crude dropping c.7.0% towards the USD83.8 level, we expect Wall Street to extend its bullish momentum. Microsoft (MSFT) continued to experience a gap up following its recent results outperformance, as accelerating Azure cloud demand and enterprise AI deployment continue to draw investor interest. This should bode well for AI chip and custom silicon partners, as well as DC infrastructure and power providers. Lastly, we also like WESCO International (WCC) following its earnings outperformance, driven by a 45% YoY increase in AI data centre sales, which led to a higher full-year FY26 guidance.

MY: Tracking Wall Street’s strong overnight performance, we believe the FBM KLCI will extend its gains today, particularly in the Technology sector. Meanwhile, we like UWC, supported by (i) surging demand for AI accelerator test equipment, (ii) its strategic pivot into higher-margin front-end wafer fabrication equipment (WFE) components, and (iii) expanding turnkey assembly capabilities driven by new cleanroom capacity. Lastly, with the breakout in cocoa prices yesterday, traders could also take positions in GCB, which is pending a 52-week high breakout.
