M+ Global Market Update – 29Jul25
Traders May Focus on Earnings Play
US: Wall Street trended sideways, despite recent de-escalation in the trade war, with the US and EU capping tariffs at 15%. Going forward, market participants could be adopting a “wait-and-see” approach as more than 100 companies are set to release earnings this week, coupled by the highly anticipated FOMC meeting and key economic data releases. We are positive on the semiconductor segment, as we believe AMD is playing a catch up given its exposure to the China market and the rollout of a comparable, yet more affordable alternative to NVIDIA’s chip. In the commodities market, Brent crude advanced toward USD69/bbl, while gold retreated further to USD3,314/oz. CPO prices remained stable at RM4,242/MT.
MY: Although we expect the market could trade sideways on the local front, traders should focus on the utilities segment, such as MNHLDG, UUE, and KJTS. We believe these companies will benefit from Tenaga’s CapEx rollout and data centre projects which may be announced in 2H2025. Meanwhile, in the Technology sector, we favour selected stocks with momentum at this juncture, such as FRONTKN and MI and thematic stock such ADB, supported by the ongoing e-invoice implementation. Besides, we expect the overall Construction, Property and Building Material sectors may perform well under the NETR and JS-SEZ catalysts.
Stocks to watch:
Technology: *ADB*, FRONTKN, *MI*
Building Material: MCEMENT, *PMETAL*
Construction: EKOVEST, *PESONA*

M+ Global Market Update – 30Jul25
Sentiment Taking A Breather
US: Sentiment has turned negative despite recent developments toward de-escalating the trade war, with the US and EU capping tariffs at 15%, as market participants started taking profits ahead of major technology earnings. Certainly, the market will be focusing the trade war deadline on August 1st, FOMC meeting that will conclude later tonight and key economic data releases like US jobs report, PCE and GDP. Although the market has been cautious, we still favour selected chip-related stocks like AMD, as we think it might be playing a catch-up, given its potential price hike of on its MI350 chips. In the commodities market, Brent oil, Gold, and CPO all moved higher to USD71/bbl, USD3,328/oz, and RM4,283/MT, respectively.
MY: Taking a cue from Wall Street’s overnight performance, the local bourse may open on a weaker note. However, with the spike in Brent oil price, we believe traders may shift their attention to the O&G sector. Meanwhile, we still like selected Utilities stocks like KJTS, MNHLDG, and UUE, supported by Tenaga’s CapEx on power grid upgrades and ongoing rollout of data center packages. Besides, IGB Commercial REIT’s earnings came in above our expectations, driven by robust occupancy rates could see potential buying interest.
Stocks to watch:

Finance: AMBANK, *OSK*
Construction: *HEGROUP*, *PESONA*
Chemical: LCTITAN, PCHEM

Penang LRT Bridge Tender in October Signals Next Phase
Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT CORP) will launch an open tender in October for the bridge portion of the Penang LRT Mutiara Line.
The 62-metre-high bridge will span between North and South Ports in Butterworth, designed to support future port growth while avoiding disruption to shipping and aviation routes.
With MRT CORP planning four LRT lines across Penang, more large-scale civil contracts are expected.
Historically, construction players like Gamuda (GAMUDA), IJM Corporation (IJM), Ekovest (EKOVEST), Malaysian Resources Corporation (MRCB), Sunway Construction (SUNCON) and WCT Holdings (WCT) are likely to be in the running for future tenders.
Call Warrants over the above players are issued by Maybank IB such as GAMUDA-C3R, IJM-C1H, MRCB-C1Q, SUNCON-C45, WCT-C42; proving bullish investors a trading tool to gain exposure at a fraction of the respective shares price!

M+ Global Market Update – 31Jul25
Hawkish Tone Set By The Fed
US: Risk-off sentiment persisted on Wall Street ahead of the August 1st deadline on the trade war, coupled with Powell’s guidance of a slower easing cycle following the FOMC meeting, where the Fed kept the interest rate unchanged. Meanwhile, President Trump has announced a trade deal with South Korea, setting tariffs at 15% and S&P500 futures are rising after Meta’s and Microsoft’s better-than-expected results. Hence, we believe the market will be broadly positive as earnings are intact for the MAG7-related companies. In the commodities market, Brent Crude climbed toward USD72/bbl, Gold retreated to USD3,279/oz, and CPO prices held steady at RM4,259.
MY: Despite the Wall Street’s mixed performance, we expect the local bourse to start on a more positive tone, supported by Meta’s and Microsoft’s results. However, we expect the upward move to be limited as it is nearing the August 1st deadline on trade deals. Nevertheless, traders may focus on energy stocks like DELEUM and HIBISCS given the recent spike in Brent oil prices, while renewed buying interest may be seen in Industrial Products & Services after JPM’s upgrades on PCHEM, which eventually may boost the trading interest in LCTITAN. Besides, we like ADB for its strong net cash and high prospective dividend yield of more than 5%.

M+ Global Market Update – 01Aug25
Reciprocal Tariff Adjusted, More Upside on Bursa
US: Despite META and MSFT posting stronger-than-expected earnings, risk-off sentiment persisted on Wall Street as the August 1st trade war deadline looms, compounded with Powell’s guidance to keep the rates unchanged. However, any progress towards de-escalating the trade war would be deemed as a positive catalyst on US equities. Meanwhile, Figma IPO had a stellar start, closing at $115.50 (against IPO price of $33). After the market close, Apple reported 3Q25 earnings that beat Wall Street estimates. In commodities, Brent Crude pulled back to USD71/bbl, Gold held steady at USD3,294/oz, while CPO prices eased to RM4,201/MT.
MY: The local bourse may start on a weaker tone, tracking Wall Street’s performance. However, Malaysia’s reciprocal tariff is adjusted from 25% to 19%, hence this might provide a support towards the trades on the local front. Meanwhile, we anticipate buying interest in energy players like DELEUM, supported by the recent spike in Brent Crude, its strong net cash position, and attractive dividend yield. Besides, with additional contract wins in Johor and potential to replicate this success in Penang, we see ITMAX as a strong fundamental stock pick. Lastly, with Tenaga’s CapEx expected to extend through year-end, we believe this should benefit KJTS, MNHLDG, UUE, and SCGBHD for the foreseeable future.
Stocks to watch:
Technology: *CPETECH*, *EG*, NE
Construction: *HEGROUP*, INTA, JTGROUP
O&G: *HAWK*
Consumer: *MFLOUR*
Plantation: JPG
Gloves: KOSSAN
