Bursa Malaysia Midday Recap: Market Finally Turns Green
After five days of declines, the FBM KLCI rebounded into positive territory, lifted by a recovery on Wall Street. Today’s gains improved market sentiment, shifting towards the bulls. Most constituents are trading in the green, though REITs, telco & media, and transportation remain in negative territory. Leading the charge today is the technology sector, supported by INARI, FRONTKN, and VITROX. Meanwhile, gold extended its rally for the third day, driven by tariff uncertainty that strengthened safe-haven demand, while cooler inflation data provided support. Investors should keep an eye out for the release of the US PPI data at 8:30 PM today.
Given the positive interest in the tech sector, FRONTKN (Target Price: MYR 5.30) may present as a potential trading opportunity. For the full report, stock ideas, and market flow updates, access the Discover Tab on the Maybank Trade MY app.

Intel appoints tech veteran as new CEO !
Intel Corp. (INTC) has announced the appointment of Lip-Bu Tan as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective March 18. A former member of Intel's board of directors, Tan will succeed Interim Co-CEOs David Zinsner and Michelle (MJ) Johnston Holthaus.
In his first statement as CEO, Tan emphasized his commitment to restoring Intel's reputation as a world-class product company, establishing the company as a premier foundry, and delivering exceptional value to customers.
Analysts view Tan's deep industry connections and customer-focused approach as major strengths for Intel. Bob O'Donnell, chief analyst at TECHnalysis Research, described Tan as a "really great fit" for the company, highlighting his extensive expertise in chip manufacturing and design and his strong network within the semiconductor industry.
Investors have also responded positively to Tan's appointment, reflecting renewed confidence in the company's strategic direction under his leadership.
However, significant challenges remain. Intel has struggled to keep pace with the growing demand for advanced AI chips, an area where competitors like Nvidia (NVDA) have taken the lead. Additionally, the company's aggressive push into contract chip manufacturing has raised concerns over cash flow pressures. Tan's previous departure from Intel's board was reportedly due to disagreements over operational inefficiencies, including the company's large workforce and bureaucratic structure. His return as CEO may signal a willingness to address these internal challenges.
Meanwhile, media reports indicate that TSMC (TSM) has proposed a joint venture with major players such as Nvidia, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and Broadcom (AVGO) to take over the management of Intel's foundry operations. Under this proposal, TSMC would assume control of Intel's foundry division, which is responsible for producing customized chips tailored to external clients' needs, while limiting its ownership stake to no more than 50%.
Overall, analysts are cautiously optimistic that Tan's leadership could bring the necessary stability and strategic direction to revitalize Intel's position in the competitive semiconductor industry.
Intel’s share price increased by +3.14% year-to-date, and the last traded price was US$20.68
Bloomberg consensus rating has 4 Buys, 40 Holds and 5 Sells, with a 12-month target price of US$22.64

M+ Market Update – 19Mar25
Selling Pressure Returns
The local bourse traded higher, with banking heavyweights leading the key index. In the US, all three indices traded lower, dragged down by technology giants including Tesla, Palantir and Nvidia; despite the latter announced new chips in its GTC conference. Meanwhile, the White House stated that President Trump and President Putin had agreed to seek a limited ceasefire on Ukraine’s energy and infrastructure for 30 days. All eyes are now on the two-day FOMC meeting, although the Fed is widely expected to maintain its interest rate. Additionally, the BoJ will also be announcing its interest rate decision for Japan today. In the commodities market, Brent oil continued to hover above USD70/barrel, while gold prices remained flat above the USD3,000 range. Meanwhile, CPO fell below the RM4,400 level.
Sector Focus: Given the weakness in the US, we expect selling interest to spillover to local tech stocks, limiting the upside potential of the recent rebound. Besides, investors may consider on the upcoming IPO, HI Mobility Bhd (M+ fair value: RM1.57), which is set to benefit from JSSEZ initiatives, the commencement of BAS.MY services in Melaka and the Rapid KL contract last year. Meanwhile, traders can look into the gold-mining counter AUMAS as gold prices trade above USD3,000. Lastly, we favour JTIASA for its positive cash flow and attractive dividends.
Stocks to watch:
Financial: *KENANGA*, *OSK*
Consumer: KOPI, SPRITZER
Utility: *KJTS*
Healthcare: *KPJ*
Construction: *SUNCON*
REIT: IGBREIT

Good Evening All,
Here’s our IPO note on Sumisaujana Group Berhad: https://mplusonline.com/research-report/detail/734
We ascribe a fair value of RM0.30 for SUMI. Our valuation is derived by pegging a forward P/E of 14.0x to the mid-FY26f EPS of 2.16 cents, implying a 25.0% upside to its IPO price of RM0.24. While the pegged P/E represents a c.20% discount to the Industrial Products & Services Index average P/E of 18.0x, we believe this fairly reflects the Company’s smaller market capitalization.
Investment highlights include:
(i) A key proxy to large O&G players (Petronas, Baker Hughes, etc.),
(ii) A new business segment, and
(iii) Capacity expansion to cater to its growth trajectory.
Please let us know if you have any questions. Have a nice day!
