M+ Market Update – 24Apr25
The Market May Extend Its Rebound
US: Wall Street continued to trade higher as President Trump toned down his pressure on Fed Chair Jerome Powell, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent commented that “there is an opportunity for a big deal here” regarding US-China trade relations. We believe the market may be pricing in a potential de-escalation of the trade war, which could present further upside opportunities for US equities. Also, we see trading opportunities within Brinker International (EAT), following the channel breakout pattern, supported by steady forward guidance. In the commodities market, both Brent oil and Gold retreated towards USD66/bbl and USD3,310/oz, respectively, while CPO prices charged towards RM4,024/MT.
MY: The local bourse is set to open higher, tracking Wall Street performance. Investors will likely be watching for developments as Tengku Zafrul and his team arrived in the US to push for a review of tariffs on Malaysian imports. With the US easing its stance on China, a rebound may be in store for beaten-down sectors such as Technology. For defensive plays, investors may look into Healthcare, including KPJ, which stands to benefit from brownfield expansion and increased bed capacity this year, while glove stocks appear undervalued, as rising demand and significant tariffs differential between Malaysia and China would support margin expansion.
Stocks to watch:
Utility: *GASMSIA*, *KJTS*, *MNHLDG*, SCGBHD
Consumer: *KOPI*, TEOSENG
O&G: DAYANG, HIBISCS
Healthcare: *KPJ*
Financial: CIMB

FBM KLCI: 1,506.52 pts (+5.33pts, +0.36%)
Thursday’s session saw the local bourse continue to trade in positive territory, as uncertainties surrounding Trump’s perfectionist trade policies were expected to ease. Banking stocks like CIMB helped lift market sentiment, despite a conservative tone in its quarterly outlook. Market breadth was neutral, with the gainers-to-losers ratio standing at 1-to-1 ratio. Buying interest in construction giants like Gamuda and IJM spurred buying interest in the sector, while the Plantation sector declined the most.

M+ Market Update – 25Apr25
Easing Trade Tension Boost Sentiment
US: Wall Street extended its gains, supported by President Trump's less confrontational stance toward Beijing, along with supportive remarks from Scott Bessent. We believe the market may be pricing in the recent developments around trade tensions, potentially positioning equities for further upside in the near term. Also, the ongoing earnings season will remain a key focus, especially after Alphabet reported stronger-than-expected earnings results post market. On the macro front, unemployment claims came in at 222k, in line with economists’ estimates. In the commodities market, both Brent Crude and Gold hovered around USD65/bbl and USD3,366 respectively, while CPO prices edged higher at RM4,059/MT.
MY: With the Bursa Finance Index up +8% from its 9 April low, we see accumulation opportunities in Alliance Bank and AmBank, which have lagged behind their peers despite offering healthy dividend payouts. Meanwhile, we view the acquisition of LF Lansen Sdn Bhd as a strategic move for Binastra to expand its RE-EPCC pipeline, supported by a robust orderbook and attractive valuations, relative to peers. Lastly, with the potential ongoing de-escalation of US-China trade tensions, we believe trading interest may return to the Technology sector, which was heavily sold down earlier this month.

M+ Market Update – 28Apr25
Positive Rebound To Sustain
US: Wall Street closed the week on a strong note, buoyed by signs of potential de-escalation of trade war, following a non-formal public announcement, indicating that Beijing could be looking to exempt certain US imports from the 125% retaliatory tariffs, coupled with upbeat earnings from Wall Street. We believe the market will price in the recent development in the trade war, which could provide upside for US equities. Traders will monitor JOLTS, GDP growth, and NFP data this week. In the commodities market, Brent Crude and Gold hovered around USD 65-66/bbl and USD 3,319-3,366, respectively, while CPO prices remained stable at RM 4,057/MT.
MY: As the FBM KLCI reclaimed the 1,500 psychological level last Friday, we expect buying support to sustain in the near term. Meanwhile, given the rising cyber threats recently, we believe this may provide a strong catalyst for stocks with cybersecurity capabilities and they are less likely to be involved in the trade tariff regime; we like companies such as LGMS and Cloudpoint. Besides, we see trading opportunities in BNASTRA, given its recent short-term breakout following the acquisition of LF Lansen, which expands its RE-EPCC business segment. For defensive investors, they may focus on the utilities segment and stocks like KJTS, MNHLDG and SCGBHD.

FBM KLCI: 1,521.59 pts (+12.39pts, +0.82%)
With the rising expectation towards the potential de-escalation of the trade war, following the less confrontational stance from President Trump towards China, it has lifted the overall sentiment on the local front after reclaiming the 1,500 psychological leve last Friday. The rebound extended today, continuing to lift the local bourse by nearly +3% from its low on 22 April. Market breadth was positive, with winners outpacing losers by 519-to-420 stocks. Glove stocks led the gains in the Health Care sector as Malaysia’s recent ban on the export of non-locally made rubber gloves is expected to benefit local glove manufacturers, while Plantation stocks traded marginally lower.
