M+ Global Market Update – 25Jun25
Markets Climb Following Ceasefire Announcement

US: Wall Street rallied as easing Middle East tensions and dovish signals from the Fed lifted market sentiment. President Trump’s declaration of a ceasefire between Israel and Iran “in effect” boosted optimism, despite accusations of immediate violations by both sides. Meanwhile, Fed Chair Powell kept the door open for rate cuts, stating that multiple policy paths remain possible amid tariff-driven uncertainty. In the commodities market, Brent oil fell sharply toward USD67/bbl as ceasefire hopes reduced supply risks, while gold retraced toward USD3,323/oz. Lastly, CPO prices broke below the RM4,000 level.

MY: In view of the ceasefire and the relief rally on Wall Street, we believe the overall local market conditions may turn positive. We are positive on the Construction, Utility, and Solar sectors, underpinned by TENAGA’s grid upgrades to support rising data centre demand, JSSEZ initiatives and the nation's renewable energy shift under the NETR masterplan. Meanwhile, investors may also consider KGB, which staged a flag formation breakout yesterday and holds an outstanding order book of RM1.43bn according to its latest quarterly results. The group has also secured RM390m in new contract wins in 1Q25, and has tendered for ultra-high purity projects in Europe.

Finance: ABMB, MAYBANK, RHBBANK

Good Evening All,

Here’s our IPO note on A1 A.K. Koh Group Berhad: Your Trusted Guide to Global Trading | Malacca Securities (mplusonline.com)

We assign a fair value of RM0.27 per share for A1AKK, representing an 8.0% upside from its IPO price of RM0.25. This valuation is based on a P/E ratio of 19.0x, pegged to the mid-FY27F EPS of 1.43 sen. We believe the ascribed P/E is fair, given that its peers in the packaged foods and meats sub-industry under the Bursa Malaysia Consumer Product Index (KLCSU) trade at an average forward P/E and historical P/E of 13.2x to 19.1x.

We ascribed a valuation multiple closer to the higher end of this range because despite having a smaller market capitalisation, A1AKK is able to deliver a relatively stronger ROE and NP margin of 34.0% and 12.4% respectively, compared to its peers' single-digit ROE and NP margin of 9.1% and 3.4%.

Looking ahead, A1AKK’s plans to expand its product availability across new retail channels like convenience stores, petrol kiosks, and retail pharmacies, along with intensified promotional activities in high-traffic locations such as supermarkets and hypermarkets, are expected to drive nationwide market share expansion, reinforcing our support for its upside-tilted valuation multiple.

Investment highlights include:
(i) Leveraging urbanisation lifestyle and HORECA trend through intensified marketing
(ii) Diversified range of product portfolio with experience for product innovation
(iii) Wide distribution network with multi-channel market reach
(iv) Multiple awards, certifications and Halal compliance
(v) Capacity expansion to support growth
(vi) Multi-segment market share across packaged food sectors

Mixed Reactions Despite Easing Geopolitical Tensions

US: Wall Street ended mixed as investors digested ongoing developments surrounding the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, which President Trump declared “in effect” despite continued retaliatory actions from both sides. Geopolitical tensions eased slightly after US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, though concerns lingered over the extent of the damage. Meanwhile, Fed Chair Powell maintained a cautious tone before Congress, warning that persistent inflation from tariffs remains a key risk, and reiterated that the Fed is not ready to cut rates until clearer signs emerge. In the commodities market, both Brent oil and gold posted minor gains, rising toward USD67/bbl and USD3,332/oz respectively, while CPO prices remained below the RM4,000 level.

MY: As the FBM KLCI formed a bullish engulfing candle formed on Monday, buying interest has re-emerged in blue-chip counters, as the local bourse is currently trading at a P/E multiple of 14.0x (5-year average: 16.5x). The REITs sector also experienced a strong surge yesterday, led by gains in IGBREIT following its plan to acquire the Mid Valley Southkey Mall, with seven "Buy" calls and a consensus TP of RM2.48, shown in Bloomberg. Lastly, we continue to favour KGB, which saw a breakout continuation pattern and currently holds an outstanding order book of RM1.43bn.

Domestic Rally To Ride On TNB Grid Upgrade

US: With recent progress toward the de-escalation of US protectionist trade policies, risk appetite improved as Wall Street edged higher, while bond yields declined despite higher-than-anticipated core PCE numbers. The Greenback remained under pressure as US President Donald Trump hinted at replacing Powell’s seat with the prospect of lower borrowing costs. Meanwhile, this week traders will closely track: (i) Powell’s speech, (ii) ISM Manufacturing PMI, (iii) JOLTS job openings, (iv) unemployment rate, and (v) non-farm payroll numbers. In the commodities market, both Brent oil and gold posted minor losses, retreating toward USD66/bbl and USD3,263/oz respectively, while CPO prices advanced toward RM4,011/MT.

MY: Mirroring Wall Street’s upbeat performance, in conjunction with undemanding valuations on the key index — currently trading at ~14.0x P/E (5-year average: 16.5x), the local bourse is likely to trade higher. Moreover, we favour the Construction and Utility sectors, given their potential to benefit from Malaysia’s FDI in data centres and ongoing infrastructure developments across the country. The latter is further supported by Tenaga’s CapEx rollout, where we understand that another 66% of its RM10bn allocation is expected to be utilised by up until year-end. As such, we favour names like SUNCON, GAMUDA, BNASTRA, MNHLDG, and PEKAT.

KLCI Poised for Upbeat Start in 2H2025

US: Progress toward the de-escalation of US protectionist trade policies continues to buoy investors’ risk appetite, with Wall Street extending its winning streak ahead of the highly anticipated jobs data. Meanwhile, the US government’s fiscal deficit and lingering concerns over trade policy continue to weigh on the Greenback, with the dollar index falling to 96.8. This week, traders will closely monitor: (i) the unemployment rate, (ii) non-farm payroll numbers, and (iii) Powell’s speech. In the commodities market, both Brent and CPO prices remained stable at USD67-68/bbl and RM3,981/MT, respectively, while Gold maintained along USD3,311/oz.

MY: Taking cues from Wall Street’s upbeat performance, coupled with KLCI’s undemanding valuations at ~14.x P/E (5-year average: 16.5x), and window dressing activities, the local bourse set to open on a firmer footing. We maintain a positive stance on the Construction and Utility sectors, given the FDI flows into the data centres segment. Also, we note that with Tenaga’s CapEx extending into 2H25, we believe it will benefit power infrastructure specialist as well as cable manufacturers going forward. For a defensive approach, we believe REIT will be favourable to outperform, in view of the sector’s average dividend yield, which stands at 4-5%.
