Today, we bring you exclusive footage 🎞 on the behind-the-scenes of helping Singaporeans in need!

Filmed 🎥 and edited 📽 by our student interns, Xavierlyn Tan from NTU and Ong Ci Wen from NUS, see how the Social Service Office (SSO) came together with IMH, Big Love Child Protection Specialist Centre, Punggol FSC and Mendaki to develop a coordinated plan 📝 (what we call our Case MAP) to support one of our beneficiaries.

We shall not say more 🤐 and let the video do the talking 📢 (literally!)

🗺 Mapping Singapore’s Footpaths:

#throwback 1990: A university lecturer, his students and Public Works officers removed obstacles to wheelchair users and made Orchard Road more accessible.

#fastforward 2019: The little changes have since paved 🔨the way 🛣 for a greater project in the form of the CBD Accessibility Mapping Day, held on Wednesday. Find out how the Disabled People’s Association along with MSF, BNP Paribas Securities Services, Singapore Poly students and DP Architects came together, and tapped on technology to make the Central Business District more accessible.

The gotong royong spirit of Singaporeans burnt brightly🔥🔥at the NCSS Social Service Summit today. 60 years ago, many 👭👬 individuals came together to help, and gave birth to the social service sector 🏩 of today.

Today’s 🗓 social service agencies are able to provide more coordinated help 🤝 to target the increasingly complex needs of our beneficiaries.

Our newest addition, Temi, created by MI Robotic (a Singapore headquartered developer of applied robotics technology), is a robot which could be helping to take on labour intensive tasks 🔧 from social workers. This will allow social workers to focus on providing better 👍🏼 services to the needy. 👵🏼👴🏼👶🏻👧🏻👦🏻

By harnessing the power of community 👥 and leveraging on 💻 new technologies, we have done so much, and can do so much more.

Let’s keep the gotong royong spirit of Singapura alive as we progress forward. Because Singapore Cares. ❤️

🙌🏼 Celebrating our Unsung Heroes 👩🏻‍🍳

How about some heartwarming personal stories 📖 from our Public Service Officers to warm your hearts 💕? For today’s #MustShareFriday, we bring you a #MustShareFilm 🎞 ‘Finding L’, story of Natashah, our Senior Youth Guidance Officer 👩🏻‍💼 at the Singapore Girls’ Home.

For Natashah, being a Youth Guidance Officer is more than a job. It is a commitment and her passion 🌈.

When L (not her real name) did not return to the Home 🏠, Natashah 👩🏻‍💼 went beyond 🏔 the call 📞 of duty to find her so that L could continue her rehabilitation. It helps to have someone cheering 💪🏼 our youth on and rooting 🙌🏼 for them.

Natashah was awarded 🏆 the PST Award (Exemplary Service Excellence Category) at the Public Sector Transformation Awards Reception today, which recognised public officers 👮‍♀️ and public agencies 🏢 for excellence 👍🏼 in their work and organisational practices.

👥🏢 The Unlimited Possibilities of Inclusive Hiring

How can we play our part to make Singapore 🇸🇬 a more inclusive 👬 and caring 💞 place for everyone, regardless of ability?

For some businesses, getting started on the journey 🛣 of hiring disabled persons may be daunting 🧐. To bridge 🌉 this gap, UOB is partnering 🤝 SG Enable, Autism Resource Centre (ARC), Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) and SPD to provide training and support to both employer 👴🏼 and employee 👨🏻before, during and after the hiring process. By doing so, more businesses and disabled persons will be connected for suitable and sustainable employment. 🙆🏻‍♂️🙆🏻‍♀️

It can be very difficult for a family when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia - losing his or her ability to make decisions - but has not made an LPA.

📑 What is an LPA❓

The Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows persons to appoint a family member or friend to make decisions for them if they lose mental capacity.

Here are three reasons why you should make an LPA!

➡️ From 1 August this year, the waiting period before an LPA can be registered will be halved from 6 weeks to 3.
➡️ Application fee is waived until 31 August next year.
➡️ You can access your registered LPA through our new online portal. - also from 1 August.

👩🏻‍⚕️👵🏼More Comprehensive Support for Caregivers

And let’s not forget about our Caregivers!

We have been working to improve our support for Caregivers and family members of those who lose mental capacity, such as dementia patients. This is the focus of the Committee to Review and Enhance Reforms in the Family Justice System (we know it’s a mouthful, let’s call it RERF Committee for short).

👥 RERF Recommendations

RERF has been rather busy and the Committee has suggested two improvements!

1. Simplify the application process for caregivers to appoint a “Deputy”, making it more affordable.

PS: What is a “Deputy”? When an LPA has not been made, family members need to apply to the Court to be appointed a “Deputy” so they can make important decisions for their loved ones.

2. More support for Deputies - for example, access to training so they can carry out their duties more confidently.

➡️ We want to hear from you!

Have something to say about the recommendations? Join us at our upcoming public consultation exercise! Stay tuned 📺

Partnerships Make A Difference

Who is a peer? 👥 A peer is someone who is there to help you when you're down. A group of 20 community partners came together as PEERS Network to figure out how to better support people who sleep in public. Leveraging on each other's strengths, they were able to reach out a hand to rough sleepers, offer them a safe place to rest, and help them find assistance to get back on their feet. Go PEERS Network!

Welcome to another episode of MSF’s Must Share Fridays! Today’s topic will be about moving towards 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️a more inclusive💞 Singapore 🇸🇬

👩🏻‍💼👨🏻‍💼Enabling Employees Awards Ceremony

Nick Vujicic, a motivational speaker born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder which causes the absence of arms and legs once said, “I’m officially disabled, but I’m truly enabled because of my lack of limbs. My unique challenges have opened up unique opportunities to reach so many in need”👫👭👬

By giving a place for those with disabilities in the workplace, we enable them and ourselves too, because of the different abilities they bring. 🏋🏻‍♀️⛹🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♂️

In this spirit, SG Enable held its biennial Enabling Employers Awards Ceremony 🏆 this evening to celebrate the achievements of outstanding ⭐️ employers and individuals that support employees with disabilities at the workplace 🏢

Let’s emulate SG Enable’s vision 👀 of ‘Inclusive Society, Enabled Lives’ ❤️and make our workplaces welcoming for all.

Ending off on a healthy note…📝
Why should we be healthy❓🤷🏻‍♀️
Because...a better physique 💪🏼 mental alertness 🧠 reduced risk of diseases 🧘🏻‍♂️, and a happier life 😇 the benefits are endless!

So with the inter-agency taskforce, HealthySG, we can better tie in efforts from across the ministries and the whole country – to infuse health ❤️ in all aspects of life.

Studies show that poor 👎🏼 health 🤒 is the main obstacle preventing people from finding and sustaining a job. Thus, we will work 🤝 with HPB to pilot this HealthySG Support Programme to the low income families 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 from our kidSTART 🧩 programme.

HPB will tailor interactive activities like grocery shopping tours 🧀🥩, hawker food trails 🍜🍛and workshops 👩🏻‍🏫 to educate parents to make better food choices.

Very soon, Singaporeans will be able to get a healthy living ‘passport’ to travel 🧳 to these health stations 🚉 (e.g cooking class and nutrition workshops)

Stay tuned 📺 to this channel for more updates! In the meantime, remember to eat 🥗🍎🥕and live healthy! 🏊🏼‍♂️⛹🏻‍♀️🤾🏻‍♂️
Looking out for our young ones 👀🧒🏻

The Children and Young Persons Act (CYPA) 📑 first enacted in 1949 and last amended in 2011 – provides for the welfare, care, protection and rehabilitation of children under 16.

Today, Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Desmond Lee introduced a Bill to amend 📝the CYPA in Parliament. The new amendments aim to provide a better environment 🏡for children to grow up well and safely. ☺️

1) Foster parents to have Childcare Leave Benefits. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🤱🏻
Currently, working foster parents have to take their own leave to care for their foster children. Under this new Bill, these foster parents will have more time and flexibility to care for their wards.

2) Starting anew, on a clean slate 👣
Mistakes made in one’s folly should not affect one’s future. Hence, a youth’s criminal record will be deemed to be spent when he/she successfully completes specific Youth Court orders so that ex-offenders who wish to turn over a new leaf 🍃can put their past behind them without a criminal record. The child’s identity and privacy is also protected 🔑 as long as no further offence is committed when he/she is older.
