๐ Making waves from the ground up: This week, we completed our 19th SG Cares Community Network Session. This is the final session in our first wave which saw 160 government and community help agencies, comprising 3,500 partners, coming together to build links and identify local needs. We are encouraged by many self-initiated projects that have sprouted organically across neighbourhoods. As these Community Networks grow, there will be more ways for community partners and volunteers to contribute, to better serve local needs. We are gearing up for the second wave in late 2019.

The gotong royong spirit of Singaporeans burnt brightly๐ฅ๐ฅat the NCSS Social Service Summit today. 60 years ago, many ๐ญ๐ฌ individuals came together to help, and gave birth to the social service sector ๐ฉ of today.
Todayโs ๐ social service agencies are able to provide more coordinated help ๐ค to target the increasingly complex needs of our beneficiaries.

It can be very difficult for a family when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia - losing his or her ability to make decisions - but has not made an LPA.
๐ What is an LPAโ
The Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows persons to appoint a family member or friend to make decisions for them if they lose mental capacity.
Here are three reasons why you should make an LPA!
โก๏ธ From 1 August this year, the waiting period before an LPA can be registered will be halved from 6 weeks to 3.
โก๏ธ Application fee is waived until 31 August next year.
โก๏ธ You can access your registered LPA through our new online portal. - also from 1 August.
๐ฉ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐ต๐ผMore Comprehensive Support for Caregivers
And letโs not forget about our Caregivers!
We have been working to improve our support for Caregivers and family members of those who lose mental capacity, such as dementia patients. This is the focus of the Committee to Review and Enhance Reforms in the Family Justice System (we know itโs a mouthful, letโs call it RERF Committee for short).
๐ฅ RERF Recommendations
RERF has been rather busy and the Committee has suggested two improvements!
1. Simplify the application process for caregivers to appoint a โDeputyโ, making it more affordable.
PS: What is a โDeputyโ? When an LPA has not been made, family members need to apply to the Court to be appointed a โDeputyโ so they can make important decisions for their loved ones.
2. More support for Deputies - for example, access to training so they can carry out their duties more confidently.
โก๏ธ We want to hear from you!
Have something to say about the recommendations? Join us at our upcoming public consultation exercise! Stay tuned ๐บ

Who is a peer? ๐ฅ A peer is someone who is there to help you when you're down. A group of 20 community partners came together as PEERS Network to figure out how to better support people who sleep in public.
