TGIF! ๐ŸŽ‰ Welcome back to another edition of #MustShareFridays! Because good things... Must Share!

๐Ÿ—บ Mapping Singaporeโ€™s Footpaths:

#throwback 1990: A university lecturer, his students and Public Works officers removed obstacles to wheelchair users and made Orchard Road more accessible.

#fastforward 2019: The little changes have since paved ๐Ÿ”จthe way ๐Ÿ›ฃ for a greater project in the form of the CBD Accessibility Mapping Day, held on Wednesday. Find out how the Disabled Peopleโ€™s Association along with MSF, BNP Paribas Securities Services, Singapore Poly students and DP Architects came together, and tapped on technology to make the Central Business District more accessible.

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ Majulah Singapura! ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ

The gotong royong spirit of Singaporeans burnt brightly๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅat the NCSS Social Service Summit today. 60 years ago, many ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ฌ individuals came together to help, and gave birth to the social service sector ๐Ÿฉ of today.

Todayโ€™s ๐Ÿ—“ social service agencies are able to provide more coordinated help ๐Ÿค to target the increasingly complex needs of our beneficiaries.

Our newest addition, Temi, created by MI Robotic (a Singapore headquartered developer of applied robotics technology), is a robot which could be helping to take on labour intensive tasks ๐Ÿ”ง from social workers. This will allow social workers to focus on providing better ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ services to the needy. ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ถ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿป

By harnessing the power of community ๐Ÿ‘ฅ and leveraging on ๐Ÿ’ป new technologies, we have done so much, and can do so much more.

Letโ€™s keep the gotong royong spirit of Singapura alive as we progress forward. Because Singapore Cares. โค๏ธ

How about some heartwarming personal stories ๐Ÿ“– from our Public Service Officers to warm your hearts ๐Ÿ’•? For todayโ€™s #MustShareFriday, we bring you a #MustShareFilm ๐ŸŽž โ€˜Finding Lโ€™, story of Natashah, our Senior Youth Guidance Officer ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ at the Singapore Girlsโ€™ Home.

For Natashah, being a Youth Guidance Officer is more than a job. It is a commitment and her passion ๐ŸŒˆ.

When L (not her real name) did not return to the Home ๐Ÿ , Natashah ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ’ผ went beyond ๐Ÿ” the call ๐Ÿ“ž of duty to find her so that L could continue her rehabilitation. It helps to have someone cheering ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ our youth on and rooting ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ for them.

๐Ÿ‘ฅ๐Ÿข The Unlimited Possibilities of Inclusive Hiring

How can we play our part to make Singapore ๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฌ a more inclusive ๐Ÿ‘ฌ and caring ๐Ÿ’ž place for everyone, regardless of ability?

For some businesses, getting started on the journey ๐Ÿ›ฃ of hiring disabled persons may be daunting ๐Ÿง. To bridge ๐ŸŒ‰ this gap, UOB is partnering ๐Ÿค SG Enable, Autism Resource Centre (ARC), Movement for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS) and SPD to provide training and support to both employer ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿผ and employee ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปbefore, during and after the hiring process. By doing so, more businesses and disabled persons will be connected for suitable and sustainable employment. ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ™†๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

It can be very difficult for a family when a loved one is diagnosed with dementia - losing his or her ability to make decisions - but has not made an LPA.

๐Ÿ“‘ What is an LPAโ“

The Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) is a legal document that allows persons to appoint a family member or friend to make decisions for them if they lose mental capacity.

Here are three reasons why you should make an LPA!

โžก๏ธ From 1 August this year, the waiting period before an LPA can be registered will be halved from 6 weeks to 3.
โžก๏ธ Application fee is waived until 31 August next year.
โžก๏ธ You can access your registered LPA through our new online portal. - also from 1 August.

๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ต๐ŸผMore Comprehensive Support for Caregivers

And letโ€™s not forget about our Caregivers!

We have been working to improve our support for Caregivers and family members of those who lose mental capacity, such as dementia patients. This is the focus of the Committee to Review and Enhance Reforms in the Family Justice System (we know itโ€™s a mouthful, letโ€™s call it RERF Committee for short).

๐Ÿ‘ฅ RERF Recommendations

RERF has been rather busy and the Committee has suggested two improvements!

1. Simplify the application process for caregivers to appoint a โ€œDeputyโ€, making it more affordable.

PS: What is a โ€œDeputyโ€? When an LPA has not been made, family members need to apply to the Court to be appointed a โ€œDeputyโ€ so they can make important decisions for their loved ones.

2. More support for Deputies - for example, access to training so they can carry out their duties more confidently.

โžก๏ธ We want to hear from you!

Have something to say about the recommendations? Join us at our upcoming public consultation exercise! Stay tuned ๐Ÿ“บ

Check out the 2 media facts below for more information ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿผ
Partnerships Make A Difference

Who is a peer? ๐Ÿ‘ฅ A peer is someone who is there to help you when you're down. A group of 20 community partners came together as PEERS Network to figure out how to better support people who sleep in public. Leveraging on each other's strengths, they were able to reach out a hand to rough sleepers, offer them a safe place to rest, and help them find assistance to get back on their feet. Go PEERS Network!

Nick Vujicic, a motivational speaker born with tetra-amelia syndrome, a rare disorder which causes the absence of arms and legs once said, โ€œIโ€™m officially disabled, but Iโ€™m truly enabled because of my lack of limbs. My unique challenges have opened up unique opportunities to reach so many in needโ€๐Ÿ‘ซ๐Ÿ‘ญ๐Ÿ‘ฌ

By giving a place for those with disabilities in the workplace, we enable them and ourselves too, because of the different abilities they bring. ๐Ÿ‹๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธโ›น๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿšด๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Ending off on a healthy noteโ€ฆ๐Ÿ“
Why should we be healthyโ“๐Ÿคท๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ
Because...a better physique ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ mental alertness ๐Ÿง  reduced risk of diseases ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ, and a happier life ๐Ÿ˜‡ the benefits are endless!

So with the inter-agency taskforce, HealthySG, we can better tie in efforts from across the ministries and the whole country โ€“ to infuse health โค๏ธ in all aspects of life.

Studies show that poor ๐Ÿ‘Ž๐Ÿผ health ๐Ÿค’ is the main obstacle preventing people from finding and sustaining a job. Thus, we will work ๐Ÿค with HPB to pilot this HealthySG Support Programme to the low income families ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ from our kidSTART ๐Ÿงฉ programme.

HPB will tailor interactive activities like grocery shopping tours ๐Ÿง€๐Ÿฅฉ, hawker food trails ๐Ÿœ๐Ÿ›and workshops ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿซ to educate parents to make better food choices.

Very soon, Singaporeans will be able to get a healthy living โ€˜passportโ€™ to travel ๐Ÿงณ to these health stations ๐Ÿš‰ (e.g cooking class and nutrition workshops)

Stay tuned ๐Ÿ“บ to this channel for more updates! In the meantime, remember to eat ๐Ÿฅ—๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฅ•and live healthy! ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿผโ€โ™‚๏ธโ›น๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคพ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ
Looking out for our young ones ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿง’๐Ÿป

The Children and Young Persons Act (CYPA) ๐Ÿ“‘ first enacted in 1949 and last amended in 2011 โ€“ provides for the welfare, care, protection and rehabilitation of children under 16.

Today, Minister for Social and Family Development, Mr Desmond Lee introduced a Bill to amend ๐Ÿ“the CYPA in Parliament. The new amendments aim to provide a better environment ๐Ÿกfor children to grow up well and safely. โ˜บ๏ธ

1) Foster parents to have Childcare Leave Benefits. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งโ€๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐Ÿคฑ๐Ÿป
Currently, working foster parents have to take their own leave to care for their foster children. Under this new Bill, these foster parents will have more time and flexibility to care for their wards.

2) Starting anew, on a clean slate ๐Ÿ‘ฃ
Mistakes made in oneโ€™s folly should not affect oneโ€™s future. Hence, a youthโ€™s criminal record will be deemed to be spent when he/she successfully completes specific Youth Court orders so that ex-offenders who wish to turn over a new leaf ๐Ÿƒcan put their past behind them without a criminal record. The childโ€™s identity and privacy is also protected ๐Ÿ”‘ as long as no further offence is committed when he/she is older.
