OKX built a perps DEX but held off due to regulatory concerns

Crypto exchange OKX built a decentralized perpetuals trading platform akin to Hyperliquid and Aster but held off launching it over regulatory concerns, its founder says.

The Web3 arm of OKX developed the unnamed platform in 2023, OKX founder and CEO Star Xu said in an X post on Sunday.

“Hyperliquid proved that massive success in onchain perps can be achieved with very few employees. Now, more competitors like Aster are stepping into the space,” he said.

Largest Crypto Liquidation Since 2024: $1.7 Billion Gone, XRP and Bitcoin Hammered

The crypto market has just been hit by its largest liquidation wave since Dec. 9, 2024, with $1.68 billion in leveraged positions being wiped out in a single day and 390,029 traders being forced out, as per CoinGlass.

Ethereum took the worst of it, with $501.63 million liquidated, while Bitcoin lost $287.01 million, Solana $95.92 million, XRP $77.96 million and Dogecoin $61.32 million. Smaller altcoins together added $257.56 million more, and the largest single strike was on OKX, where a BTC-USDT swap worth $12.74 million was taken out in one go.

Fold taps Stripe and Visa to bring bitcoin credit card rewards to the checkout aisle

Fold said Tuesday it will launch a bitcoin-only rewards credit card on Visa’s network, powered by Stripe Issuing, which will bring BTC cash back to everyday spending without requiring categories or staking tiers.

The company, which trades on Nasdaq as FLD, said the card will offer up to 3.5% back on purchases, available in 2% unlimited instantly, plus up to 1.5% more when customers pay off balances from a Fold checking account with qualifying activity. Fold also touted brand offers up to 10% back across a large merchant network.
