The community turned out to be right! The deposit contract reached the minimum amount in time, securing the launch of Eth2 Phase 0 on December 1st!

The success of the staking effort is a testament to the determination and long-term vision of the Ethereum community.

Here's how the staking contract filled up – slowly at first, and with a windfall of transactions in the last few days, going well over the 524,288 minimum by the Nov 24 deadline. Also, many waited until the last minute to stake, suggesting that ETH is seen as a valuable revenue-generating asset.
