Some things to keep in mind about gas fees on Ethereum:

- Wallet interfaces don’t influence gas prices – those are determined by the conditions of the Ethereum network and paid to miners.

- Gas prices can change very quickly, as much as 100 points or more over a few hours. MEW checks current prices every time you access your wallet. You can also check Ethgasstation.

- MEW sets default prices for transactions according to the current network conditions. If a lower gas price was set than is favored by the network, the transaction would fail or stay pending until dropped.

- Remember that you can always change gas settings manually in MEW.

- When contracts are involved, as for token transactions, swaps, and DeFi operations, more gas is used than for a simple ETH transaction.
