In the spirit of our continued commitment to innovation in the Ethereum space, MEW has submitted EIP-5749: Deprecate 'window.ethereum'.

The current model of browser wallet injection has created an accidental monopoly which has taken away user choice and has kept developers from exploring better solutions. This affects a large number of wallets including Coinbase, MetaMask, Enkrypt, Rabby, Rainbow Wallet, Trust Wallet, GameStop, Math Wallet, and others.

MEW sees a solution to this. Replacing 'window.ethereum' with 'window.evmproviders' will allow libraries such as web3modal and web3onboard to display all injected wallets the user has installed. This will prevent race conditions & allow multiple wallets to be used in the browser, ultimately leading to a better user experience that we are all striving for.
