ICS is organizing a talk titled “What do you want to become when you grow up?” by one of our distinguished alumni, Dr. Partha Narayan Mishra (B.Tech in Civil Engineering and M.Tech in Geotechnical Engineering, NIT Rourkela, 2014). Dr. Mishra currently works as an assistant professor of Geotechnical Engineering at IIT Kanpur, while being associated with the University of Queensland at the capacity of an adjunct lecturer of Civil Engineering.
Venue – Room # 002, LA II
Date & Time: 22nd Aug 2023, 5.30 PM
The talk will focus on one of the important questions that young people often get asked. When they are young, the profession that they suggest as an answer to the question in the title of the talk, often matches their passion. The answer to the same question, however, changes for many when they enter an institute or university of higher education. At that point, many would simply say they would like to have a job that would pay them some XYZ Lpa or Cpa. But, is “money”, the only vertical for a job that makes you happy in the long run?
For this talk, we will discuss two career prospects i.e., academia and/or industry. “What are the attributes one should have to succeed in each of them?”, “How do you know which one is for you?”, “Can you do both?”, “Can you still earn a decent living while doing something that you really like?”- are the questions we will try to seek answers to, through this presentation.
