So, the topic of Iran's Uranium and theoretical possible ties back to Uranium 1 keep coming up.
This is interesting to me but the strange thing about it is... this convo treats Uranium like it's some precious & rare commodity, instead of something Russia & China can crank out as much as they want of.
Like, if you're a state like Iran, why bother jumping through hoops to get hands on material that came from the U.S.? The only thing significant about it is its unique signature... the traceability back to the U.S.
Two scenarios where that makes sense:
a) Rogue actor wants to set off a nuke or dirty bomb someplace and avoid using their own uranium so the attack can't be traced back to themselves.
b) Rogue actor wants to set off a nuke or dirty bomb someplace and have the world believe the U.S. did it (like with help of UN regulators helpfully identifying the U.S. as origin of material).
I realize those sound almost the same, but they are a little different in execution, and require a very different level of sophistication to pull off.

Aaron Siri’s tweet is misleading. The Trump DOJ brief DOES NOT SAY medical exemptions are fine but religious ones aren’t—it actually says Title VII REQUIRES reasonable religious accommodations and would PREEMPT any state law blocking them.
In this case, they made a narrow call to skip Supreme Court review in this one old, already-repealed NY case—because it’s a weak, fact-specific dispute (full exemption vs. other options like reassignment) that’s not worth the Court’s time.
The brief explicitly states the opposite of Siri’s framing on the core legal principle..
“Petitioners are correct that, if New York law foreclosed any consideration of religious accommodations, it would be preempted by Title VII… Title VII would preempt a state law that precludes an employer from attempting to reasonably accommodate an employee’s religious practice.”
