#AskNTUSU Update on COVID-19 (9 September 2020)

Dear Fellow Union Members,

We refer to the Ministry of Health’s announcement yesterday that an infected COVID-19 patient has visited some places in NTU. NTUSU has reached out to the University Management and is closely working together with them on this matter.

As a precautionary measure, students who had visited these locations during the following timings and dates are advised to monitor their health closely for 14 days from their visit:

⁃ Quad Cafe at NTU School of Biological Sciences on Aug 25 between 12.35pm and 1.30pm
⁃ Paik’s Bibim eatery at NTU North Spine Plaza on Aug 26 between 2.25pm and 3.30pm
⁃ North Spine Food Court at NTU North Spine Plaza on Aug 28 between 1pm and 2pm

According to MOH, members of the public do not need to avoid places where confirmed cases of Covid-19 have been and individuals who were identified as close contacts of the confirmed cases have been notified.

NTUSU places utmost importance to ensure the safest environment to learn and work in for the NTU community. We understand and share your concerns, and will will continue to work closely with the NTU management to prioritise your health and safety is of our highest priority.

The Union implores students to closely monitor their health and exercise good social responsibility and responsible safe distancing. Should you feel unwell, please seek medical attention early at Fullerton Healthcare @ NTU or the nearest General Practitioner. We will continue to update students promptly as we work closely with the University Management.

#AskNTUSU Statement on Study Spaces

Dear Fellow Union Members,

NTUSU would like to thank students for their feedback and suggestions with regards to the availability of study spaces on campus this semester. Over the past few weeks, the Union has been working closely with the University to mitigate the issue.

We would like to announce that the University has now made a number of TRs and LTs across campus available for self study usage, from Mondays to Fridays, 8:30AM to 8:30PM, without the need to place a booking. You may refer to the document here for the full list of TRs and LTs here (subjected to availability between bookings for classes and other school activities).

Nevertheless, NTUSU would like to remind students to exercise individual social responsibility and continue to adhere to safe distancing measures at all times, in accordance to the MOH advisory. As part of the NTU community, we all share this collective responsibility to co-create a safe environment in NTU and we seek your cooperation.

NTUSU Announcement: Circulation of an inaccurate online article regarding NTU Scholarships prioritising overseas students

Dear Fellow Union Members,

NTUSU has received information about the circulation of an inaccurate article on ScholarshipsCorner.com, regarding an advertisement promoting the “nanyang scholarships that provide priority only to overseas students”.

The Union wishes to take this opportunity to clarify that the stated article on ScholarshipsCorner.com is inaccurate and we have since clarified with the school about the misrepresentation of facts as suggested in the article.

The original terms in the scholarship that states “priority for overseas programmes” was being misrepresented in the article as “priority for overseas students”. This inaccurately portrays the unintended image of NTU scholarships forgoing the interests of the local student body, which is not within the Union’s understanding of the scholarship’s requirement.

We assure students that the school does not have such a view, and that there is no restriction as to the nationality of candidates as stated clearly on the school website.

The Union believes in providing equal opportunities for all local and international students, and would like to remind students to be be vigilant and wary of potential false information circulating online. Students are reminded to fact-check and verify sources before spreading or acting on them.

For more details, please visit the NTU Scholarships list and its requirements here.
